  1. Never used UniFi myself, but perhaps this may help? https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/How-to-find-the-Public-IP-Address-of-a-remote-UNIFI-Cloud-Key/td-p/1534873
  2. All up to date, but it's affecting all PCs, regardless of model. I have the following: Dell Optiplex 9030 AIO Dell Optiplex 7440 AIO Lenovo ThinkCenter (Can't remember the model!) RM ONE RM Mobile ONE All PCs are failing to install any cumulative updates on a monthly basis.
  3. Yup, manually downloaded the update from the Microsoft Catalog and it failed.
  4. The reason I am assuming it's not this is because it's been happening on all PCs since September 2017, but, I rebuilt all PCs last week with a brand new baseline Windows 10 (1079) image with no customisations or anything removed. So, the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder should be empty on most PCs. Update: Regardless, I just tried this and tried to reinstall the update and it failed again.
  5. Ever since I set up my Windows Server 2016 domain with Windows 10 clients and WSUS, Windows Updates has failed to install the "201X-XX Cumulative Update" every single month. The most recent update to fail is "2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4088776)". Prior to that 2018-02 failed, 2018-01, 2017-12 etc. It'll try to install the update to 100% and then fail with "We couldn’t complete the updates, Undoing changes" and then reboots twice before booting back into Windows. I don't know where to check as to why this is failing. However, it gives an error code of 0x800f0922 for the most recent failure (KB4088776). Any idea what I can do to stop these failures? How can I investigate what the root cause of the continuing error is? I've used the Get-WindowsUpdateLog command to generate a WindowsUpdate.log but it doesn't tell me anything about why it is failing to install every month.
  6. I'm surprised it took you this long to take any action!
  7. I'd consider Meraki MDM for managing the Macs and the iPads. Lots you can do with server-less management in the Meraki cloud. Just a thought, but if you are using G Suite, why not consider Chromebooks for the staff, or is there a specific offline app on macOS that you need the staff to use? The cost savings from Chromebook to MacBook would be huge.
  8. I downloaded my Facebook data the other day. It was mostly me rambling about my mother in law and her quirks and how boring Preston is! If they can make money out of my data, then power to them! [/slightSarcasm]
  9. I've completely disabled Drive File Stream for this very reason. I asked Google whether it was possible for a ransomware attack to infect and encrypt our data. They said that they have not had any reports of any attacks, but couldn't guarantee it wasn't possible. I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I've disabled it for our domain completely. I'd rather staff just used the web browser to access their files, than me having to invest in something like backupify or spin backup for a hefty cost!
  10. Meraki all the way for me. I like that we can have it all under one cloud based single pane of glass (WiFi, switches, MDM, CCTV). It's quite literally plug and play and took moments for us to setup and configure. The hardest part of the job was screwing the APs in! For me, it just works. I've finally got a WiFi solution that I've put in and simply forgotten about and it's not given me any issues.
  11. Indeed. It definitely lacked the special feeling of the original series, as well as Craig Charles and Philippa Forrester.
  12. I was just being mischievous! Interesting to see that the recommendations are still the top products today. Although I don't believe LogMeIn free anymore!
  13. The thread was last updated in 2009... You updated it almost 9 years later just to say that?
  14. When I get these calls, I usually shock the crap outta them by responding in a highly raised tone of worry... "Was I in an accident? Really?! Oh no... Wait there, I need to call the police!" They then usually hang up on me!
  15. This is exactly what we did. I simply had a meeting with the staff telling them our servers were out of warranty, we had too much junk on our systems and we were moving to Google Drive. They just dragged and dropped. Over the year, I've run several other sessions (or 1 to 1 discussions) on transitioning away from Office/ActivInspire over to Docs/Sheets/Slides etc. Yes, there has been some backlash, but ultimately it's about leadership buy in and accepting positive progression. As for the argument on excessive bandwidth use, not sure what the worry is really? I haven't noticed anything in terms of excessive usage to cause concern. Our pipe in and out is an LGfL 200Mbps connection and it's 1Gbps to the desktop or 802.11ac to the mobile devices. As mentioned above, the cost of storage for me was far greater. Not just in monetary value, but also in support and risk management costs. There are arguments that the data is far more secure in the cloud, especially with 2 step authentication. You could in theory do away with backups completely. Google's admin console has built in restore capabilities (if you want an extra layer, you could look at backupify etc). The point here is that there are growing savings that are not just monetary. There will always be an argument for on-premise vs cloud, but the main argument should be that there shouldn't be an aversion to change and looking at different ways of working.
  16. We recently moved over from SIMS to Bromcom MIS. Again, fully cloud hosted and browser based. I had demos from a variety of vendors but went with Bromcom because they were the only company who could guarantee me connectivity with all our existing 3rd parties, as well as a willingness to develop the system further to our needs. The personalised support so far from support desk right through to CEO has been brilliant.
  17. My experiences with MLS pretty much reflect those of most people around here. It takes forever to make a call to support. My average hold time is around the 30 minute mark. The hosted system is dreadfully slow. Every time I call up to complain, I get given a new bunch of URLs to add to the web filter and the call gets closed! It's atrocious! I'm tempted to move away, does anyone have any suggestions on suitable "true cloud" alternatives?
  18. Return of the secret diary of a call girl?!
  19. It's interesting you mention this. At the BETT show this year, I was getting a static shock with every board that I touched on the Promethean stand!
  20. That's quite a big assumption to make... When I took over my school, neither server (curriculum or admin) was in a locked room. In fact, the room was a server room, photocopy room and staff locker room! Yes, the onus is on the school to ensure their data is safe and secure, but it seems like a cop out from Capita to say, it's secure because that what we think our users do!
  21. WhatsApp really need to give us the ability to untether from our phones so that it can be used anywhere and everywhere. And also, a true iPad app!
  22. I tried that on day 1 and 2 and then failed miserably on day 3 and 4!
  23. You make it sound so professional. It's the east end mate, we call it going to Tesco! [emoji23]
  24. You could always get your head to enable category 2 remote access on the LGfL support site. This would then enable most of the popular remote access tools. Also, with regards to RAv3. Don't bother with the frontend. Just download the Cisco Any Connect VPN client and open a VPN connection to your school server. Atomwide support will be able to help you get this setup
