I think I found the culprit, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's the one as I didn't really make any other changes. I was using the WOLSkill by Oscar Penalo for my Alexa to enable Wake on LAN for my PC. However, he's since discontinued it and replaced it by RemoteRelay which is a freemium solution. Disabling this skill using the Alexa app appears to now have fixed the issue. Might try to report it as a bug, but in the meantime, I'll look for an alternative WoL solution that works via iPhone or Alexa.

My PC has started acting weirdly lately where it wakes up immediately after it goes to sleep (I've set it to go to sleep after 10 minutes). What's weird though, is that if I manually set it to sleep (via the Start menu) it stays asleep. But if it goes to sleep itself, after it's 10 minute setting, it wakes up immediately. I'm using the Logitech MX Keys S and the MX Master 3S. If I switch them off, the PC will stay asleep. But if I leave them on, the PC will wake up immediately, unless I put it to sleep manually, where it will stay asleep, even with the keyboard and mouse switched on. I know that I can disable USB power on, but I don't want to as I like being able to wake the PC up using either the keyboard and mouse. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (26200.8328) and the latest version of Logi Options+ (2.3.879545)

Adding to what Paul mentioned, you should only use NotebookLM through Google Workspace for Education. NotebookLM is available as part of Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, which is completely free for schools. Using NotebookLM via Education accounts ensures that your data stays within your organisation and is not used by Google to train public models. Edit: Notice that Paul said this earlier! 🙈

They regularly advertise that they haven't raised prices in year. Having been an LGfL customer since 2004, I think the added value is phenomenal. You can actually. You can go for something called option 2. But the question is, why would you want to?

I haven't kept up with specific models, but from experience, I would say avoid entry level cheap Chromebooks for staff. They're great for students, but tend to struggle or simply take too long when you try more staff oriented productivity. Always go for a Chromebook Plus model, with at least an i3 or i5 (or equivalent) CPU. Try to go for at least 8GB RAM. You don't really need to worry about storage space if they are properly managed in a Google Workspace environment.

Regardless of the company publishing the article, I think it's important to recognise that people are at different levels. I read the article and it's nothing new to me either, but that's not to say it isn't a useful article. It's only nothing new to me because I'm keen to try and keep on top of the latest trends in AI. But that's not easy with the current pace of change. Not everyone is in the same boat with ability to keep ahead of the trends or even understanding. Yes, we might be more ahead of the trends given the nature of our roles, but even then, people are at different stages in their careers and experience.

I voted NetSweeper, but it's a very heavily customised version called WebScreen 2.0 provided by LGfL.

Can't comment on if they ever did that. But I was part of the BSF implementation for my school in 2013 and that certainly wasn't the case.

I've quoted a few posts below, primarily because I agreed with most of what has been said. This was my 20th Bett and my first as a member of the Bett Advisory Board, as well as my first opportunity speaking on the main stage. A little proud milestone for me personally, having spoken on the smaller stages in recent years. I quite strongly agree with @localzuk that these days, you'll be disappointed if you're looking for the shiny new thing. That's just not what EdTech is anymore. It was nice once upon a time to play with all the gadgets, but those days are (somewhat sadly) gone. Bett 2025, was very much a case of the year of AI. Some stands showcasing products that had nothing new at all, but had some form of AI slapped on top for an extra monthly subscription fee. Some a little useful, if pricey. Some useless and still pricey! My last few Bett Shows have pretty much been spent not paying too much attention to the show floor or taking a deep dive into what the exhibitors have to showcase and much more about the people and networking. This is what I think Bett (and other conferences) are much more powerful for. You can always schedule a Teams/Zoom/Meet call next week and do a screen share of what your new product brings for 2025. It'll be better with a stable internet connection and not where there are thousands of people all having a conversation at the same time. Bett is for connecting with people in person at the human level. Despite the flexibility that covid taught us about virtual connections, we thrive the most on in person human connections. I'd like to think Hyve have done better in bringing more PD and content back to Bett. The theatres and new "fish bowl" talks were really powerful and covered a wide range of subjects. I was gutted that I couldn't get to Gary Henderson's talk on cyber security as I had a clash, but he had a full house, which was great to see. I also agree with @Dos_Box that Bett had lost a bit of the special feel over the last few years and started to feel a bit too much like a trade show for leaders with purchasing influence. But having seen a little bit behind the scenes this year, Hyve have tried to bring back a lot of the focus for educators, which is great to see and I hope we see much more of that at Bett 2026. For those attending (or hoping to attend) next year, do make sure to try and get to more of the talks and try to connect with as many people as possible afterwards, even if it is just to exchange details to follow up later on. I'm glad that I did this over the many years at Bett and have made some lifelong friends as well as experienced some wonderful opportunities because of it. Trust me, you won't regret it! My Multi Academy Trust of schools is very urban. All six schools are based in the east end of London, in the London Borough of Newham.

You're staying on the opposite end of London. ExCeL is in the east, Heathrow is way out in the west. However, with the Elizabeth line, you now only need 1 train. You can get the eastbound Elizabeth line train to Abbey Wood and it'll take about 1 hour from Heathrow Terminal 2 & 3 to Custom House.

I moved our schools to Sign In App for this very reason. A very bloated system full of things that the vast majority of users I've spoken to simply don't use and also, not having a "Cloud First" strategy in 2024 is just poor.

It was a good meeting, but how productive it was, I'm not too sure. The representative was nice and welcoming, but I guess the meeting happened at the worst possible time, being the day before the general election and the inevitable change of the government. There's also some insane levels of bureaucracy which is probably not surprising. We've agreed to stay in touch and meet again at a later date once things have settled down at the DfE.
