A pretty serious exploit seems to have been discovered for ChromeOS. It's called SH1MMER. There's a little bit of information on their official website (sh1mmer.me). It appears to have been discontinued as a tool, but the expliot is still out there and as of today (19th January) still unpatched. Response from Google on sh1mmer.

There's a valid argument however, that phones before the iPhone very much focused on the physical keyboard (QWERTY or T9) with a tiny screen, as opposed to the full glass screen, post iPhone. Yes, Apple do like to sugar coat and claim their innovation is better than most/all, but I'd say the evidence is pretty clear in this innovation, that Apple at least did it first and forced everyone else to follow suit.

You could always ask ChatGPT for "help" You can feed it information about your school and then ask it to frame the strategy around that.

You could alwys get YouTube Premium for dirt cheap via the hotukdeals method using a Turkish VPN. But on the whole, I agree with you that the whole Smart TV, streaming box options are an utter minefield with no one product solving all the requirements. I currently have a 2 device set up on my main TV: Chromecast with Google TV - This does pretty much almost everything I use (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, YouTube Premium etc) The one thing it doesn't do, and thus what I need the PC for... Lenovo Tiny PC - Sky Go. I got the PC for cheap from @ICTDirect_Dave, but it is getting on a bit and the Windows "decay" and Sky Go being so horribly coded really doesn't help matters! It works, but it's just so horribly clunky and convoluted. Interestingly enough, Sky have just released the Sky Go app for Apple TV. I'm really tempted to buy one, but I'll be forking out £149 just to use Sky Go on a big screen with a remote on the go. I just wish they would release it for all streaming devices! But no, they'd rather charge for Sky Glass and Sky Stream instead!

This is pretty much what we do at the 3 primary schools we look after. We still utilise option 1, with the LGfL router and firewall but the /21 for each school is subnetted to our Meraki core switch. We then control all of our different VLANs internally. Of course, if this doesn't work for you and you really want full control, you can go for option 2. But I would much rather the extra layer of security with option 1 with the internal controls, as I've done at our schools.

Yes, very much so being fobbed off. I've asked them to escalate to ESS. If they can come back and tell us what is causing the issue, I can fix it. But I suspect they will come back with the same. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate the issue at all. I've tried the following: Taken the PC out of the PCs OU and put it at the top level in AD (No policies) Fully updated on Windows Update (using Microsoft Update, not WSUS) Uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus At this point, I managed to get it to work. So, I then decided to put it back into the OU. At which point it failed again. Now, here is the confusing part. I then tried to repeat everything above. Uninstalled Sophos, took the PC out of the OU, checked for updates (fully updated), cleaned off any cached profiles, PC rebooted, tried FMS again and no luck whatsoever! I simply cannot get it to work. However, it works fine on the SIMS server. I'm now trying a totally vanilla copy of Windows directly from VLSC on a virtual machine and see how we get on!

We're getting an exception being thrown when the Finance Manager tries to display salary projections in FMS on his PC. We've tried multiple PCs, but still getting the same issue. However, the issue isn't happening when you try to use FMS on the SIMS server. Only on the Windows PC. I've tried calling the LA SIMS support, but they're just blaming it on local environment. The trouble is, I have no idea what could be causing the issue. Windows 10 is fully updated (22H2), I've uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus on a test PC to check if that was causing the issue. Still no luck. Any ideas?

For everyone using local profiles, how long does the initial login take? Our first time login is over 2 minutes on some PCs, which is rather long and very annoying. Any tips on how to reduce this? I've tried loads of different methods, even trying LTSC or removing all Windows apps from a Windows image using NTLite and even having a super stripped down version of Windows. But nothing seems to help!

Upgraded my PC last year from my old i7-2600K. Cost me far more than I imagined! Doing the calculations looking back is rather alarming!

You'll have to do that using a JSON file. I've not done it myself, but there is a decent guide here and on the official github here that explains what you need to do.

Yes, you can deploy any Chrome Web Store app through the Google Admin console, by browsing to: Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers Select the OU you want to deploy the extension to. Then click the yellow + button and Add from Chrome Web Store. Search for uBlock Origin and then Force install. Just be aware that uBlock may break certain websites if they have anti-adblock code. However, on the whole, it's pretty decent with the default settings.

Excited for the new series. I'll admit, I haven't watched much since the Peter Capaldi days and it just didn't interest me as much as the RTD and Moffat days. Looking forward to RTD taking over the reigns again. Hoping that we might get some Torchwood teasers at some point too!
