The same thing happened to me: I logged a call with Microsoft, but everything was back by the end of the day.

For anyone that's interested, I just managed to get this working through our LGfL firewall which was blocking WhatsApp calls. I did some packet captures on our Meraki APs and also cross referenced it from a Facebook IP list from 2016 which I found here. Here is the list of all the IPs I had unblocked: 31.13.0.0/17 45.64.40.0/22 66.220.144.0/20 69.63.176.0/20 69.171.224.0/19 74.119.76.0/22 103.4.96.0/22 129.134.0.0/16 157.240.0.0/16 173.252.64.0/18 179.60.192.0/22 185.60.216.0/22 204.15.20.0/22 Here are the ports that needed to be unblocked: TCP: 4244, 5222, 5223, 5228, 5242 UDP: 3478, 45395 TCP & UDP: 50300-59999 I've just tested a WhatsApp call with the Mrs and all was working perfectly!

I've got this very same problem. I want to unblock these IPs to allow WhatsApp Voice Calling, but can't get the correct destination IPs in order to get our ISP to unblock them on our firewall. Would anyone be able to point us in the direction of a list or be willing to share?

Yeah, it's a 2 form primary school. The host itself is running fine. Even with the VMs on full load, the CPU is at like 10% load, so I'm gonna take a look at the VM configuration to see if there is something going on there. I'll give you a call @ICTDirect_Dave, I'd be interested in looking at CPU costings.

So nearly 15 years in to my career as an education IT professional, I'm surprised to say that this is the first time I am actually looking to purchase a new server! (In the past, I've mostly inherited servers - mainly junk! Or they've been purchased by someone else!) So, the question is, what exactly do I need to look for in terms of server spec? I recently rebuilt an old RM CC4 server as a vanilla domain with the old CC4 server running as a Windows Server 2016 virtual host with 2 VMs (DC and SIMS). The specs are: Model: HP ML350pT08 SFF CTO Server Product Number: 652065-B21 CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2609 @ 2.4GHz RAM: 16GB (8 for host, 4 for DC, 4 for SIMS) HDD: 4 x 450GB running in RAID5 The servers aren't really doing anything too fancy. The DC is basically doing AD authentication, GPO, DNS, DHCP, WDS and PDQ Deploy. The SIMS server is obviously doing SIMS and SQL. There is no file server as all files are on the cloud. There are no user profiles. All profiles are local and My Documents is heavily restricted to just 1GB per staff member and a shared 5GB limit for all students as the main storage is on Google Drive. What specs would be recommended for the above requirements? The current server is struggling heavily with the above and the CPU constantly runs at 100%. I have already ordered a further 16GB RAM which should be arriving today, but I get the feeling that this might not solve the issues with high CPU utilisation.

I'm sorry, but the support I had from CleverTouch for some boards that I inherited at one of my schools was nothing short of horrendous! I wanted to get the version of Android updated on the built in module, so I called Sahara who put me through to some other company and despite several attempts at chasing, I never got a reply at all, despite being told someone would send me the updated ROM. I went back to our supplier for a quote and it was well over £3,000 for a CleverTouch board, whilst the Promethean came in at £2,225. In addition to this, I think it hurts the other suppliers who sub contract their on-site support out as the service is never as great as it is with Promethean. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Promethean fanboy by any means and have been highly critical of some of the things they do (*coughcoughActiveInspireClassflowEtccoughcough*) but hardware quality and after sales support has been the best I've experience so far and even then they have a lot to improve!

ActivPanel v4 70" in a few of our classrooms and an ActivPanel v6 86" in 2 of our halls. Nothing else comes closer in price. Promethean have always been cheapest for us.

I have several PCs where the Windows Audio Service disables itself at random intervals (usually after several weeks). The fix is simply re-enabling the service, but this can only be done by the administrator. Does anyone have any idea why this might be disabling itself on random PCs?

This is my problem with the current system. When I moved in to my place in 2008, the landlord had just converted a single property in to 2 flats. I called Thames Water to let them know to charge me for a flat, not a house and to also charge the woman upstairs for water too. It was a flat rate property and they told me they have to put a meter in to recalculate. I asked about the lady upstairs and was told they tried to contact her, but she wasn't opening the door. So now, I have a meter and the new people living upstairs don't, because someone didn't bother to open the door! How is that fair? I have to watch what I use, whilst the people upstairs can use whatever they like and pay a lot less on flat rate than my family metered rate. I'm sorry, but it should be 1 rule for all, not some benefit for some and extra cost for others.

I'll never park my car in long stay ever again! Not because the experience provided was bad, but because I learnt the scary way that driving home on the M25 after a 7 hour night flight from Dubai where you didn't get any sleep whatsoever is definitely not a good condition to be driving in! It's taxi at a cost of over £100 for me and the family from now on. Better cash spent and safe than sorry! Not that I have any money to go on any sort of holiday at the moment!

I just wanted to share something that I feel very proud of. I really think that rule needs to be changed. Especially with the increase in MATs, it's silly to force MATs to have "..sch.uk" as MATs can and do grow far beyond their geographical areas. That's why a lot of MATs are usually .org or .co.uk because they can't get .sch.uk addresses. Recently, I've also seen .academy and .trust.

That's not going to work if the staff aren't allowed to use their mobiles in class. It will only work if each member of staff has their own tablet device like an iPad.

Why not simply block USB Flash Drives altogether and insist that all staff use a GDPR compliant cloud storage facility like Google Drive? Saves a ton of cash and no compatibility issues.

We're gradually moving more and more away from Microsoft Office, so it looks like it's Google Keep for us over OneNote. I'm yet to see any teachers who even know what OneNote even is!

Whilst I can understand the concern here, you have to admit that it is very useful if you need to manually type out a link or send it via a character limited platform (Twitter or Text Message etc).

Has anyone got their head around this new Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL)? I've tried to get my head around it, but can't see how it's a replacement, if it even is!

This. I'd argue the support isn't great though and if you've been waiting 45 mins, you've been lucky. I was on hold for over an hour a few months back and then had to cancel the call to attend a meeting. The trouble is that there doesn't seem to be a user friendly (minimal setup) alternative out there.

@Winner - Have you experienced any issues with Windows Updates failing using option 2? From the investigations that I did here, my PCs were failing to install Windows Updates (specifically, monthly cumulative roll ups) until I re-enabled the App Readiness service. This of course is going to increase login times

So, I think I may have fixed this... But I'm not happy with the fix! Based on the advice here, I disabled the App Readiness service to speed up login times. This was great and brought our login times down considerably. However, it seems as though this is what has killed the updates. I just tested starting the service on 2 PCs that were previously failing to update and as soon as I switched the service back on, the update installed fine. So, in the interim, it looks as though that is the fix. However, is there a way to get the updates to work with App Readiness switched off, so that updates can work and login times are as short as possible.

If you can get through to someone helpful at Atomwide, they can probably check the location of the request for you from their firewall logs. You may need to call several times to get through to someone willing to go the extra mile though!

Although not an immediate fix, maybe consider using the English (International) version of Windows 10 for your PC images.
