  1. Nothing has changed on the switches as far as I'm aware. They're unmanaged Netgear switches, so they're pretty basic in that sense. I remember being able to ping the devices the day before I started this thread. I only noticed it because I couldn't see the PCs in AB Tutor, then I did some further investigation which led to this.
  2. No, they are all wired devices.
  3. You mean "meant" Okay, well, I'll take that in to account. I was told I had to disable it in order for SOLUS to work properly, but I'll investigate that further. @MatZeRO - The DC is pinging to PCs using IPv4 and using the host name. Connectivity seems to be fine as I can ping, connect via VNC and RDP to the PCs from the DC with no issues. But I can't VNC, ping or RDP to the PCs from my PC or from selected other PCs that are affected. I can't see any differences between affected and unaffected PCs.
  4. It is disabled on all clients via GPO. I've logged on to the PCs and confirmed that it is indeed disabled.
  5. Yesterday, I noticed that I couldn't connect to certain PCs anymore using AB Tutor. I called support who asked me to ping and telnet to the PCs and realised I couldn't ping them at all. First things first, Windows Firewall is switched off in GPO. Doubled checked on the PCs themselves and yes, it's still switched off. Also, the domain controller can ping all the PCs, just the PCs can't ping each other. Another thing that is weird is that the ipconfig command is now showing the IPv6 address as the main address instead of the IPv4 address. What gets even weirder is that I have an NPLS link between my 2 sites and PCs at my 2nd site, running the same build of Windows and same setup, can ping my PCs at the 1st site, but my PCs at the 1st site can't ping each other! Any ideas what could be causing this and any ideas why they would now be displaying IPv6 by default and how I can switch it off remotely on all PCs?
  6. What's your initial login like? Also, are any of your users using Outlook? If so, how are your settings migrating across PCs?
  7. Following on from the discussion in the other thread, it looks like Misco are officially dead and buried. Feel for the staff as I had a good working relationship with our account manager for over 8 years Credit and competition to blame for Misco UK demise
  8. Well, it appears that no one is at work this morning. No replies on the phones
  9. Shocking news about Misco. They have been my main supplier for over 7 years now. Sad news, especially for the staff!
  10. Is this what you mean? Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon - Under Computer Configuration in the navigation tree on the left side, navigate to Administrative Templates\System\Logon. Here you can simply enable (or disable) the setting. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg486839.aspx
  11. Any ideas how to achieve this?
  12. Our users log in to our PCs using local accounts. I've mentioned in other threads how the initial log on can take anywhere up to 3 minutes, but subsequent logons are near enough instantaneous. The trouble with the "instant" logon is that fresh settings aren't applying. Example: User Joe Bloggs has logged on to a PC and printers are mapped (via vbs logon script), start menu layout (xml file in GPO) and everything is all setup and they are good to go. If I make a change to the printer script or a change to the start menu layout, it doesn't apply these settings for users who have cached profiles on the PCs. It will apply to any new users who log in and also will work if I delete the cached profile. What puzzles me if why are certain settings applying on demand, yet other settings don't. If I make a GPO change, the settings apply as soon as the user logs off and on again. Yet, login scripts and xml changes are not applying. How can I force these changes to apply on every logon without having to clear locally cached profiles?
  13. Interestingly, I've found a Microsoft article saying this: Source = https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4049094/windows-devices-may-fail-to-boot-after-installing-october-10-version-o Ironically, seeing as I haven't fully set up WSUS yet, I shouldn't be having this issue as my PCs are downloading the update directly from Windows Update
  14. Thanks for that. Any idea where I can find this script?
  15. All of my PCs are currently experiencing this problem. I haven't fully completed configuring WSUS at the moment, so I've left Windows 10 to manage the updates. However, I've noticed that all of my PCs are failing on installing KB4041676 (2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems. The PC tries to install the update, then fails and says "We couldn’t complete the updates, Undoing changes" and then reboots twice before booting back in to Windows. Any ideas as to why it might be failing? I can't see anything in the Event Viewer that could be causing the update to fail.
  16. That's not strictly true. All Meraki devices will continue to work with the last available configuration. You just won't be able to change that configuration until you renew the license.
  17. It was ages ago now, but it was some Cisco Aironet access points. Can't remember the model number. The quote didn't even include any switches as we already had LGfL VoIP switches in place. By the time everything was said and done and I had the Meraki quote come through at a similar price (with 3 x layer 2 Meraki switches included!) I decided that the Meraki kit was a no brainer and that I'd rather have control over my WiFi than rely on Atomwide for ongoing support and configuration and annual support costs and not have access to the management backend.
  18. I'm surprised a lot of people have said the license cost was too high. I signed up all my kit for the 10 year educational license at the cost of 5 year and even then it came out similarly priced as other quotations that I had received (Ruckus, Aerohive, Atomwide etc). Hence why I decided to go ahead with it.
  19. Meraki here across our trust. Highly recommended!
  20. EDIT: Seems like Softcat and Insight have also lost their status: https://www.channelweb.co.uk/crn-uk/news/3014782/major-resellers-fall-as-apple-takes-axe-to-channel-base
  21. No, that's the trouble, I don't have SSDs on any PC. The PCs in the ICT Suite are decently spec'd. Dell Optiplex 9030 AIO, Quad Core i5 with 8GB RAM, but they only have SATA hard drives. There simply isn't any money in the budget to upgrade to SSDs and some of the older PCs are much lesser spec'd.
  22. I've got a thread about this here: (/showthread.php?t=187913) I've managed to set up UE-V and test a few PCs in my live environment, but have still had no luck in managing to get the initial settings to copy over. Once I manually set up Outlook, it remembers all the internal settings like signature and all that, but it doesn't remember the account settings at all. The other problem I've found with only using local profiles is the initial logon time. First logon on a new PC with a base 1703 image is taking over 3 minutes. I've created a 1703 build with NTLite where I have stripped every Windows app except Cortana (Stripping Cortana was breaking Windows search across the OS). However on testing this build, it's still taking nearly the same time, that's without GPOs and any printer mappings [emoji21] I've not succumbed to using roaming profiles just yet, but it's fast becoming an issue and I don't want it to rear it's ugly head soon! Hoping that Fall Creators Update does something about logon times!
  23. I'm presuming that if you installed AB Tutor on to a USB stick and kept it with the laptop trolleys, then any teacher using the trolleys could simply just plug in the USB and run AB Tutor from there. That would then reduce the number of licenses you need for the control program. AB Tutor is the cheapest I've seen. But yes, they are a small company and feature wise they can't compete with the likes of NetSupport or Impero. But their product is far cheaper.
  24. So long as it keeps winning ratings, the truth will always be out there... [emoji12]
  25. Of course, if it exists, someone will buy it. It's just not gonna be a best seller. It certainly doesn't have the draw of the MacBook, Surface, XPS or even the iPhone, Pixel XL or Galaxy Note 8. The point is that Google have been pushing Chrome OS and Chromebooks as low end affordable devices. This kinda defeats that whole chain of thought! You could argue the opposite... Not many people have Core i7 PCs with that high a spec and most of the stuff happening on the web (that people are actually doing) works just fine on lower end devices.
