It was pretty much designed for your use case and would AFIK allow them to do everything you want. It's just a question of whether it gives them too much power. Which would probably take some testing. At the very least, it makes for a good starting point.

We're on the bigger side (1500) pupils 3 (and a bit) buildings. No SANs, but we have 3 virtual hosts with the servers syncing between them (each host has some active and some backup servers). We use VLANS but vlan by system rather than buildings. So one for phones, one for CCTV, one for BMS, that kind of thing. The networking guys I've spoken to about it say VLANing by building say it's not worth It unless you're really big or running multiple campuses.

Adobe reader (or sometimes chrome) for us. Although windows 10 keeps switching the default back to edge.

When we tried it (don't ask), I think we got up to 300-400 emails in a couple of hours before the account was shut down. You should be able to register your IP as a bulk sender so the emails don't get caught as spam, but that won't stop MS from shutting down the 365 account if you send too many emails too quickly.

Why not just let the add an application wizard copy the powershell scrip into the applications folder like another install script? Is there an advantage to putting it in the scripts folder?

The software knows and the software can tell them . I remember when our Smart licencing ran out unexpectedly it immediately came up as not legitimate (it watermarks everything and kills some functionality). But only on the older SB+projector rooms and PCs without a board attached but was perfectly happy if we plugged an (at the time) new E70 in.

We have an application that calls the decrapifier power-shell script if we want to cut out the preinstalled junk. creating an app with the prerequisite uninstall command is by far the essayist way I've found.

The "drag the taskbar" thing sounds like probably forcing a refresh the same as pinning another item. Was this a permanent fix for you?

Since yesterday, we've had staff complain that programs they've pinned to the task bar keep disappearing. The computer seems to think they're still pinned, as if I right click on a previously pinned program it says "Unpin from taskbar". Sometime if they pin a new item (or unpin and repin an item) all their pined icons come back, but sometimes nothing changes. The computer thinks the programs are pinned but nothing appears on the taskbar. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks! Rob.

What does the Event log say about it? Could it be a permissions thing on the installer? Do the computer accounts have access rights to the share with the MSI in? Does running "msiexec /i "\\server\share\installer.msi" /qn" work?

I'd expect an error of the type here as software install polices can only be run at startup. Assuming the policy isn't applying even after reboot, are there any security permissions on the GPO? What happens when you run run group policy modeling or group policy result from the management console? They can give more information than just using gpresult in the command line.

We use windows media player when we need to copy the listening exam CDs. All the ones we've done so far this year have come out as track01/track02/track03 and so on.

We use Fastrack (Biostore's cashless system till system). Its had its teething problems but seems to work OK now. We use ParentyPay, but Biostore have Tucasi listed as a payment partner.

We've got an old laptop driving the "cctv screen" in the site office. But it's only running in HD with 18 channels. Do you have the camera's tiled? If so see if only showing one makes a difference to the performance. If not then it's more likely to be RAM or CUP that's slowing things down. Also try dropping the resolution, if that clears things up then, yeah a new graphics card is in order.

if you use "/boot" on the end then you won't get that message it will just automatically reboot if it needs to. Personally, I prefer "gpupdate /sync /target:computer /boot" to update computer GPOs. Similar to force but only does the computer policies.

Someone (I think it was librarian) duck-taped labels to the underside of the laptops. So far they have't come off. Normally we use dymo labels, but as others have said, they don't stay on that long (or they leave a horrible mess when you take them off).

Our MDT task sequence is set to prompt for a computer name if the computer is unknown (it defaults to a random MININT### type name). If the computer is known/has an MDT record, then this will populate the computer name filed during the task sequence.

I'm sure you've already tried this, but... The laptop is connected to the wireless okay? Can you ping the laptop from the DC? If you log in locally, can you ping the DC (or anything else) from the laptop?

When we tried to use Office 365 account authentication it wouldn't work unless the auth account had send-as permissions for all our scan to email users. This was the point we just switched over to scan to home drive and scan to onedrive (both of which work fine).

If you have the control software installed on a machine with an audio-out (so basically not a virtual server) then the PC audio-out can be taken as a streamed input. From there as long as it plays on the computer it will come out of the bodet speakers.

We've just had Bodet tannoy/alarm system installed. This would do what you want. All their speakers are POE can be centrally managed from server software and will play mp3 and wav files fine (not tried any other file types). Those unifi speaker/aps look cool though!
