A little while back we tried a bunch of wireless display units : Barco WePresent: Was great for just displaying but had really bad latency for touch feedback. Screenbeam: We had lots of connection issues with. It wold either take ages to connect, not connect at all, or keep dropping out. Via-Connect: Looked the most promising but we only ever had a hands off demo with the salesman.

From my own experience (admittedly 4+ years ago) Active-inspire on Promethean boards has for the most part just worked. Where as every time Smart release an update (or the wind direction changes) it breaks something.

I reckon it ties in with their whole (hip/cool) marketing gimmick. The idea apple products "unlock your creativity" and "expand your horizons" while other devices windows are geared to the dry work of reports/exams/spreadsheets. Only with an educational spin and going after Google rather than windows. Also isn't this about right for a company that declared a "holy war" against Google back in 2011?

Just to be clear, is this a thing you can do now or a suggestion?

We use intune to manage a smallish fleet of around 50 ipads. They're a mixture of DEP and Configurator managed devices depending on age. Are you're ipads issued as 1:1 or shared devices? I assume you're already signed up for Volume purchasing and/or apple school manager. The one thing we've found is that (even for shared devices) user affinity was a lot more reliable than device affinity.

We've got 7 (at least one in each building around the site), running xibo signage. They're used to show news (both in school and global), posters for upcoming events, club and revision timetables, that kind of thing. During parent's/open evenings they get used for maps and promo photos So ours are really well used.

We have 1,500 students and about 200 staff. Last Friday we printed 29,166 pages according to papercut. We're printing 10-20,000 pages a day. So say 400,000 a month, give or take.

Thanks for the replies. No he was sparking between the two domes of the generator (I'm sure there's a technical term for it) The monitor appears fine (or at lest it comes on a says "no signal"). The Motherboard is getting power (board led comes on) so i think the PSU is good, dead board sounds most likely. No beeps, no fans, no nothing. PC's well out of warranty. We've pretty much written off the PC, but want to get an idea of what happened so we can guard against it. I guess making them do the VDG demonstrations well away from the PC might be a good idea.

I'm sure I read that apple were going to make it so you could add non DEP devices to ASM. I guess this never actually happened.

Hi guys, Bit of an odd one. One of our science teachers has managed to kill his desktop with a van de graaff generator. He was apparently running the generator on the desk (maybe half a meter away from the PC), and when he grounded the generator the PC "turned off" and now won't turn back on. The motherboard lights show the PC's getting power and nothing looks physically damaged, but it won't turn on. As far as I'm aware the PC being inside an earthed, metal box should protect it from this stuff like this. So, is there anyone who knows more about this sort of thing who can postulate a theory as to what might have happened? Thanks! Edited to be about the device rather than the band.

I assume you've tried putting the serial number into Apple School Manager. It's worked for us a surprising number of times (especially with newer purchases).

So you now have to setup/support this system across all these others schools. How does your school feel about you spending your time doing this? Or do they charge the other schools for your time?

We've got it deploying okay, but we're using the following install command through MDT. startswinstall.exe /install /now I guess you've tried re-downloading the admin image.

What browser do most people in the school use? We have chrome set up to only allow login from domain g-suite accounts. Just saying. But really, there's only so much you can do without someone higher up on side. If SLT aren't going to do anything then (as others have said) go higher. And don't forget to mention the GDPR fines. Money normally makes people sit up and take note.

It kind of reminds me of all the backlash against Google Glass. There are cameras and recording devices literally everywhere. What about "smart car" sensors/reversing cameras, or even dash-cams? Or public place security cameras? Or people with gopros? (I've worn a helmit camera skiing, should I be telling the people I get into the cable-car with I have a recording devices on my helmet - like they could miss it) Personally I wouldn't even know where to start. I guess you could put signage up like you have to for private CCTV, but then you'd have "Smart audio visual capture device in operation" signs on most homes, cars, bikes, lamp-posts... You'd end up with so many they'd become white noise.

Yeah. We had students on mandatory and staff on roaming and had issues with both. For students, we had problems with the start menu not loading and some internet/ssl connection issues. switching them to local profiles has fixed this and made them generally more stable. For staff, taksbar pins didn't stay, the calculator/photos app kept falling over, Outlook profiles would corrupt randomly and the PCs were generally quite slow. But all this is pretty intermittent and has been hard to pin down. But switching staff with issues to UEV had resolved most of the problems so we're slowly moving all the staff over. It also saves a good chunk of space as 300 odd staff with 50+mb profiles quickly adds up.

Given you've got POE networking in there it seems a shame to not get a proper AP working in there. I know you said you wanted to keep your existing wifi, but have you thought of switching to something like unifi? What about the sky wireless boosters? We're 1500 student school (so around 2000 users) and with just office 365 cloud stuff (email, onedrive and some sharepoint) we work our 1gb connection pretty hard (especially around lesson change when everyone's saving and opening documents, etc). Back 6ish years ago, we were on 100mb connection (and only really using O365 outlook) and we could quite easily saturate the connection (although normally only for short periods) So I'd agree with the others, and wouldn't recommend less that 1gb primary line. Also backup line is a must if you're going full cloud, ideally with a different physical rout in.

Before we moved to a leasing contract, I used IDNS. Good price and good service (no quibbles when we inadvertently got 6 yellows). And I was always impressed at the quality of their remanufacutred (HP) cartridges.

Yeah, it's a bootcamp install of windows - all the times I've done any application installs on them windows has already been installed before we start the task sequence.

We've got a suite of Macs with windows installed. I wasn't involved in setting it up, but I know we can deploy apps through WDS task sequences fine. Although I've only ever done it using an applications-only sequence after windows was installed.

Depends how big. Laptop sized, the surface is pretty good and the Dell XPS series is amazing (but expensive). If you mean wall sized, we use the Smart SB6065 interactive boards and they work really well you just have to be careful of the cable length limitations (since windows 10, USB gets super dodgy over about 4.5m)

Anyone been watching The Outpost. I thought season 2 was good fun.

It shouldn't. But if it does you can get AD to automatically "fix" the permissions/ownership by re-entering the home drive path on the user accounts. As long as you're using something like \\server\share$\%username%, you should be able to do it on bulk. And I'm pretty sure they'll keep any inherited (admin) permissions.

I've used https://helgeklein.com/setacl/ (the free command line version) to take ownership and get permissions on folder structures in the past.
