I was referring to the RM accounts - SystemAdmin, PackageBuilder, BuildSystem and the 8 or so 'ServiceHost' users - that are all Domain Admins and we can't change without someone from RM confirming it's not going to break. I was replying to the comment above that "RM have been warning schools about cut-off dates for servers since Server 2000 went EOL, but they can't force a school to spend money" - we've had no such warning or contact to ask/suggest/force to upgrade. All my other suppliers are keen to tell me several times that their product is about to become EOL and how they'd love me to pay them money to upgrade. Fair enough, but where is support for ESR? There's no mention on RM.com that UEV is out of date/retired. Except we had to send an official letter to the head of RM Support just to get our Service Host password changed following a cyber breach last year; they were incredulous that we were considering such a request and said no to start with. Ultimately cost us a half-days engineering time to uninstall and reinstall various elements of RM. Agreed. We could run with or without it, but at the moment its easier to stay than to learn/re-learn the alternatives such as WDS or SCCM.

[sims] Parentpay - delete / archive / get rid of 'visitors'?
howartp replied to coolhands's topic in MIS Systems
Can't you just get rid of them from the visitors tab and re-sync? -
Appreciate the response. We're secondary school with 1800 students and team of 3. Umming and aahing as to how to proceed in Summer 2023. I'm currently (about to) tackle RM about how CC4 stands up in the cyber world we're in: Cyber Essentials, Pingcastle and MS best practice (pick and choose what you like) all discourage daily use of Domain Administrator accounts yet RM use them throughout CC4 and some of them are hardcoded at point of install. We can't use Protected Accounts / Service Accounts for fear of breaking things. Servers out of date/support (our CC4 servers are 2016) with no approach from RM to update them. Just moved to UEV last year in order to upgrade Win10 OS, but then discover UEV is all but retired now. And various other points I haven't yet got in my head but i've been building up a picture since June when I presented a combined Cyber Essentials/Pingcastle "Action plan" to our SLT. I had to put the report on hold over summer and due to come back to it this/next week. Anyone else any feelings on this element of CC4 please chip-in or pm me direct. Peter

Staff don't sign in/update tickets, there's only agents actually sign in.

Students Turning Monitors off and preventing full shutdown
howartp replied to supportman's topic in How do you do....it?
Since summer we've shutdown any IT Suite PC not logged on within 10 minutes of the lesson, then WOL them 5 minutes before the next lesson. Best of both worlds - energy savings, updates installed but ready to go for students. -
Site staff do all our keys but i'm not aware they have any register of who has what keys. Very few doors are actually keylocked apart from external doors overnight. They certainly don't chase us every year to see what we have! We do have approaching 75 doors/gates on Paxton and I can only see that growing.

Actually in Admin >Security, our SSO is showing inactive despite having it configured and we're logging in by it every day. I need to contact Support next week to see what's going on. Peter

I've just had a look and I can't see this option either... We're on the paid Growth plan.

Interesting comment. We switched to AMD Ryzen (8GB RAM) in Summer 2021 for engineering as they were are supposed to be better for graphics, and currently awaiting delivery on another 100 (CPU's out of stock in the country) - but art are struggling with Photoshop eating RAM even on the newest we've got.

Hehe, google reverse image search has now found the answer...

Have you looked in Reports > Lesson Monitor I don't know what's in there but last time I got frustrated with attendance reporting in the main reporting dictionary, I realised its because there are pre-made reports for a lot of attendance.

Can someone recommend a company that can quote for some iPads
howartp replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Hardware
We've used Academia on and off for years but getting increasingly fed up with our current and previous account managers so won't be staying with them much longer. -
Possible to edit permissions for the Class Teacher group?
howartp replied to msi's topic in MIS Systems
All permissions for any group can be modified, including Class Teacher, as long as you have the correct rights to do it. -
Powershell script to deploy exam files into exam/CA accounts, enable/disable them on schedule, and backup to central store that exam team can access to print and/or upload to online submission.

Recommend me an HDMI 2-port splitter please...

Yep, right up my alley that one - you can’t laugh emoji to posts on here yet though! -
Just to follow up on this. I found a known bug on the Adobe support/community pages where ‘object selection’ on nvidia GPUs would crash. (We don’t use object selection and we don’t have nvidia!) v23.5.2 or above addresses that bug (alongside new nvidia drivers) and v24.0 contains some settings in case it regresses. v24 seems to have fixed the issue with all selection tools, not just object selection, for us/for now.

We installed 36 Iiyama TVs last year (65" and 75") and just about to tender for about 50 this year. All four models we have (TE7504MIS, LH7542UHS plus 65" versions) have freeze but on one remote it's the "pause" button and the other it's the "blue" button.

Fujitsu Scansnap - S1500 problems with CC4
howartp replied to Aarbron's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Yes, we have these. We can get ours running ok, but every time a pig flies over the school (or a Windows Update runs, whichever occurs most frequently) the link/relationship between the users "profile" on the scanner disappears so the user has to recreate their profile. These are our notes from the previous Fujitsu scanners which we binned: Truth be told I don't know if I've checked these settings recently so its worth looking! Peter -
Mail Merge. Forced Prompt for New Data Source?
howartp replied to Gongalong's topic in Office Software
Hi I'm wondering if this is actually an unintentional bug they were making use of. If your data source is CSV, then some versions of Office will fail to find the original source and re-prompt you for it. If your data source is XLS(X) then it finds it and re-uses it. I hate it cos most of my sources are CSV and I have to re-browse every time. -
