Does anyone still come in early for results downlaod?
howartp replied to Rob_D's topic in How do you do....it?
I'm still of the mindset that if I don't come in, or at least get up ready, then something usually goes wrong. If I come in pronto, it all goes swimmingly and i'm not needed. For the two days a year that it involves, I don't mind getting up and coming in for roughly 7am/7.15 (versus 8.15/8.30 normally) - exams are in about 6.30 but I don't bother that early any more. -

Ah it's ok at home. Must be our Smoothwall, but usually you can click the Youtube icon and pop it out in another window. Ignore me! Peter -

2012 R2 will go straight to 2019 no problem. 2012 will need to go via 2016. I did several last summer straight to 2019, though there weren't any DCs to do.

Yes, we were travelling south and got stuck in the middle of them; had to head back northwards, eastwards around the top of them, then back down south past them. Fun times!

£15k on IRIS and it's sat going dusty in a cupboard. Royal pain to setup with DHCP reservations in each VLAN, changing the VLAN/IP somewhere in the (iPod?) to get it to connect, hidden secret share for it to upload to NAS. Good riddance! Peter

Very much this. (My CPD target says) I've been presenting a report to our 3Rs meeting* for 2 years, but working with Deputy Head and Data Manager - both of whom have been the kingpins to TAGs and CAGs so been out of the loop. We're only now starting to think about the first stage stated above, but that is how we're doing it. (*sub-SLT but practical/financial/administrative rather than curriculum/T&L)

Windows search function not working after upgrade
howartp replied to dukeit's topic in Windows Server 2019
Have you done Windows Updates since you upgraded? I have some (very) small memory of a similar (ish) issue at some point and I don't recall it being anything fancy to fix. -

My understanding is Classcharts only writes back AM/PM data. It displays all data from SIMS, although can be overwritten by users taking a register in classcharts (eg PE or assemblies). We have the odd mismatch when parents ring us up, but usually when teacher has struggled to get SIMS open so randomly taken their register in Classcharts and not told anyone. Certainly not 4% swing.

We renewed our Meraki licenses for staff and naughty students (managed IDs) in April, just under £40 for 5 years (£10/year paid annually). Come to add another 350 licenses for our new Year 7 intake with ASM/managed IDs and the price is £60 for 5 years (£22/year paid annually) which blows our budget - turns out we were wrongly quoted in April! We currently use Airwatch for students which are £11/year but we hate it and are moving away each as we renew each years' intake. Grateful to this thread as we're now trialling JAMF School for £6.90/year paid annually or other nice prices for 3year or perpetual.

We have these with our outdoor APs in: https://cpc.farnell.com/hylec/ded011/enclosure-trans-door-300x200x130mm/dp/PL11383 Not sure if they'd resist footballs/cricket balls etc but they work for what we needed.

Expanding Harddrive on VM
howartp replied to chrisgreenwood's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Screenshot? Do you have enough capacity on the physical disks (array) that your VM disk is on? If not you might need to move the disk or whole VM storage-base, which may mean shutting the VM down depending on your license. Will is certainly right in principle, I do it (far too) regularly. -
We're also looking to move but it's been on the back burner for a year or two. A perception I had formed/impressed on me when looking was that student progress/monitoring reports (whatever your school calls them, issued at parents evening time) are far better in Bromcom, but Arbor was by far my favourite - I will therefore be looking carefully at this as we do a lot with our SPM Reports and associated reports so will need to see where things are at when we're looking again.

A few schools have had various forms of letters on the general area of 'we are about to charge you' over recent months but I've still had nothing through from them (as the Wonde administrator here). I wonder if it depends which 3rd party initially setup/registered your school with Wonde as to whether they subscribed you to something/anything/nothing, paid or otherwise?
