We've got a problem with student(s) making large group calls at all hours of the day and night. Can anyone who uses Facetime advise me - when you have the attached list of unanswered incoming calls, is the first number shown definitely the person who initiated the call? Or, if I go into the list of recipients, is the top number definitely the person who initiated the call? Or is it random? TIA

I'm confused because the spreadsheet of pricing i've been slowly putting together from eg scan, ebuyer, serverdirect has 1.8TB HPE drives being around the £285 mark ex VAT so expect . Similarly / looking at it in reverse, £4,500 will just about get me 30TB of raw storage (pre-RAID) with 25 1.2TB drives - compared to 192TB (pre-RAID) in this product. Therefore I wasn't sure how a 16TB drive could be at/around that value and yet be on par / exceed the performance/warranty. What i'm actually looking for (and floundering in the options of spin speed, capacity and cost) is to replace my 20TB 7.2k disk tray with a new tray or NAS holding 50+TB of disks faster than 7.2k In a desktop I won't put anything but SSD in now, but have enterprise capacity SSDs come down to a price-point that they are a valid consideration yet?

My query is - what am I missing? If they were some chinese knockoff drives I would walk away, but they are Seagate and branded as enterprise, so i'm confused. Any thoughts or comments?

Actually you CAN download that on any PC - i'm downloading it now on my Win10 running Chrome browser. I didn't expect you could, as I had a Macbook 2014 last week that I was updating and had to jump through similar hoops, and the .dmg's would ONLY download on Safari on Mac. Peter

I'm not familiar with Notepad++ (I know everyone uses it but I have used UltraEdit and friends for years) so this may not be any better than what you already do. UltraCompare will show you side-by-side what is same/different and from memory can hide the lines that are common. etc

External Mini-SAS

Hello We have two old servers circa 2009/10 that have about 70TB of usable storage between them, via SAS disk trays. The SAS/RAID controller for the first won't go past Server 2008 R2, and on the second it's not supported past 2016 though physically allows the install of 2019. I've never really purchased anything SAS or RAID before (except part of a tendered procurement); can I just buy a new server with any random modern SAS RAID controller cards and attach the existing disk trays to them? (I know I'll have to rebuild arrays etc, that's fine) Or are the disk trays fixed/paired with their respective make/model/version of controller? This is for Veeam backup repositories prior to/alongside going cloud - i don't want to buy new storage, but no problem buying a new server and RAID cards to bring the old trays into use. Advice welcome. (One is an IBM EXP3000 tray with ServeRAID MR10M, the other is HP StorageWorks D2700 with P421 Smart Array) Peter

Those who are leaving in 6 months have already renewed their contract; they have opted-in to permission to break the contract in 5.5 months time. So they are eligible for the upgrade. Are you sorted? First guess would be the gateway IP / subnet mask, second would be the DNS servers, third would be your firewall/proxy if it's not expecting traffic on that IP range. You can set the DNS etc at the root of DHCP so you don't need to include in each new scope, but it depends who set up your scopes.

Problem with mail-merge (for us at least) is that hotmail, gmail, etc detect you sending hundreds of emails and put it into spam. I do my best to send one email BCC'd rather than several similar/identical emails by mail-merge, unless I do need to change the data within the email - in which case yes I use mail-merge as it was designed for. Someone is probably going to say SPF, DKIM, DMARC - i'm sure we have all that setup but huge mail-merges still go to spam.

Yeah we just select the email column, copy-paste into any text editor that can replace line-breaks (I guess Notepad++ will) then replace line-break with semicolon. Then copy into new email (BCC) and it splits them as it pastes.

Apart from DCs entering a boot loop and several servers requiring rollback when we came in the following morning (affecting lots of organisations, not just us), no I can't say we've had any issues in 5 years. But i'd rather wait for other people to test them first!

I did all ours last night, desktops and servers (2012 R2 thru 2019) and no issues yet.
