Would like to resurrect this thread instead of opening a new one - did you ever get it working? I have same issue: server running mac os x lion 10.7.5 (latest update) tried on a client running 10.6 and another with 10.7 client and server are bound to active directory. client is linked to mac server as well - get green light indicating it is connected. can logon to client ok with active directory accounts but no profile settings are picked up. Got list of users and groups from AD on the server - however it does not show the users as being in any groups. tried settings in profile manager on server for individual users and groups but nothing is picked up? Anyone help - is there something i am missing?

I have usually found it is connected to roaming profiles - try deleting local cached profile and perhaps giving the user a new profile in AD - sometimes go into registry if local profile messed up to delete it.

We have rolled out chrome - users can use IE as well. As stated in previous post - GPO's are available and also MSI's from google. Not sure if this is the case for firefox and also there were problems with the version being updated so often. We did it to give better compatibility with google apps.

We have had some nice all in ones from novatech - they will customise them for you - put in SSD's if you want.

Just bought the latest version of this and it is great - for £132 online price it is a bargain - you can do bulk modify/ creation and it has other tools as well.

If you contact support they should be able to give you a link to contact the right place to get approval. They will ask for various details and come back to you with approval after a few days.

spoken to service desk they have a problem - messages coming through very slowly - one test message sent out arrived - an earlier one did not. Incoming from yahoo have not arrived

just tried my yahoo account to college account - messages neither sent or received though not bounced back so it seems as there is a problem.

I think the earlier versions of Serif Webplus are free to use - can't get website up at the moment.

We have the same problem with our E5500's - out of warranty so we have had to buy lids for them.

Securtity Update KB2636927 gives you silverlight 5 I think - seems to have worked here.

Clickview is ok but they have never got the ratings system working for clickview online so you can't filter out material for younger students. Google apps for education might be worth looking at as it will allow shared videos.

You can stick printers on a different subnet as they don't need to connect to the internet - they just need to communicate with your servers. This will free up a few addresses.

have had problem where calibri fails to print random letters with office 2010 and samsung printers. Sometimes restarting the printer solved - not always - changing fonts works but never got a proper solution.

What email do you use now? Exchange is good but can be a pain to setup - i would look at google apps for mail - syncs with active directory better than live@edu and you won't have to worry about backups.

Would look at getting rid of xp clients to make things easier to manage by having all on windows 7. If you have microsoft schools agreement that gives cheap licences - setup 2008R2 data center edition on your decent/new servers - this will allow you unlimited hyper v virtual servers - pretty straightforward to setup. Setup new virtual DCs on 2008 R2 - when they have replicated ok then you can move roles off your old DCs and retire them. Basically aim for 2008 R2 on servers - win 7 on clients and take it from there. Impero is useful for installing software/updates that don't have msi's by logging on to several machines at once and running mimic scripts. Also you get can rid of profiles altogether for students - will just setup a local profile when they logon first time to a machine - redirect desktop, start menu etc.

We are also looking at this - veering more towards google apps now - ironically because of better integration with AD. Also heard reports that live@edu will be introducing charges though have not confirmed this.

Procurve manager is excellent - not that cheap - but if you have a lot of HP switches really helps. You can see firmware and upgrade switches as well as looking at topology of network. Most useful feature - search for mac address and it will tell you what port and switch it is connected to. It needs a fairly high spec machine to run on with at least 4GB of ram - I use an old server.

You can make your own with zotac mini PC's that fasten to the back of a monitor ZOTAC - It's time to play! - ZBOX - pretty nifty if you put an SSD drive in - we have quite a few here.
