If you have bought serif products for your college then usually students can buy them for £10 - they will send you a form if you ask them.

Have only used the free edition but that is great and backs up virtual hyper v machines better than dpm - has already saved me a load of hassle by doing a restore after a botched upgrade.

emerge is very pricey with annual licences- you can run remote desktop from android or ipad if you can get a wireless signal.

We have been using it here for past year - replaced old exchange setup and saved a lot of money rather than upgrading to new version of exchange. Mail has been fine, though not as integrated with Outlook as exchange - spam filters are good - puts everything into junk mail folder. Collaboration and sharing are really good - can choose whether to share with individual, group or whole world. Staff probably not using it as much as they could with students though. Several people can work simultaneously on one document. Advantages with mobile devices as you can use google drive. Also people can create stuff using google docs from home even if they don't have office installed - it auto-saves as you work on it.

use Veeam: Modern Data Protection I use the free version and it does a good job of backing up hyper v servers

would it be cheaper to get lapsafe to refurbish your old ones. Some old ones will only take 15 inch laptops and not 15.6 inch but we bought some nice 14 inch toshibas and got chargers changed over.

Although it can be quite poisonous it is available to buy in newsagents and so not actually illegal. IMHO students should be allowed to look at a range of media from the morning star through to the daily mail to be able compare different viewpoints and make their own mind up.

If you need the space I would be tempted to look at tablets ipads or nexus. Perhaps you should look at it from the other side - what is the suite actually used for - what do they do with IT or would like to do?.

I would avoid dell vostro - had problems with trackpads not to mention issues with getting decent prices. Novatech have been pretty good. Whatever you get putting SSD drives in will be biggest performance improvement.

Similar problem to us - upgrade reported no problems but videos showing in library manager were not showing in player. I was able to go back to previous setup but going to hold off upgrade for a while. Doing verify on server seemed to make it lose even more.

For disaster recovery then amazon glacier looks good about $22 dollars a month for 2TB - keep meaning to get it setup here. Data retrieval is a bit more if you want it in a hurry but if the college burns to the ground then that is the least of your worries. If you have your backup server in a different part of school to your main servers then you are only going to need it in extreme circumstances.

did not manage to get hold of clickview - they used to be pretty helpful but could not get e reply and decided to roll back to virtual copy of server. Upgrade installed fine but there were videos missing on clickview player afterwards. Might be worth doing a backup if you do an upgrade especially copy the cvdb database.

Anyone else upgraded their clickview server to 3.0.1.78? Did mine and it messed up the server - some videos missing - did verify on server and lost even more - went from 3400 videos on clickview player to 1700! - maybe some mismatch in the database - videos that were listed would not play and gave error message. Decided to restore server as I had a backup of the virtual server last week and got back working - our actual video data is on a NAS box. Reluctant to try upgrade again now - wondered if others have had joy with this?

not had problem with updates - though it is supposed to update automatically. It does work with impero - on workstation settings on groups - take tick out of only filter internet explorer traffic.

download the msi from chrome - they also have adms you can download to control it in active directory - we give users chrome and internet explorer

We have some - they are expensive. One thing you can't do is freeze the image on screen whilst you do something else on your laptop such as take a register as you can with projectors. Personally I would either use casio projectors or just use TV's without the interactive bit - how many staff actually use the touch facilities - most just use them to project images. Another option is to use a wireless gyro-mouse so you can walk around classroom demonstrating stuff without having to stand in front of the screen.

Sort the switches out first - managed HP procurve are good - get a decent core switch. Ruckus is good for wireless - there are some good deals on at the moment. If you have this then you may get away with sticking SSD drives in laptops if they are not too ancient. Explain this to the head - no point in fancy LCD screens if infrastructure not working - good luck :-)

Did not notice you were running XP - our D531's run windows 7 64 bit no problem - do you have MS schools agreement that will you upgrade to win 7? appreciate it is a big step if you are all XP at the moment.

Have novatech desktops and laptops with no problems at all. Last of lot of Dell vostro laptops have been problematic and Dell education section are not interested - can't even price match price for buying one off their website when asked for a quote for 100.

we have got loads of D531s working on ruckus no problem - the issue may be encryption method - if you have tkip you are limited to 20 per access point i think whereas with AES you can have as many as you want. - I had this problem when trialling ruckus but as soon as I changed key to AES then all ok. quick edit -we have just put SSD's in our D531's which also really helped.

If you are on MS schools agreement then you could setup sims as a TS remote app fairly cheaply Terminal Services RemoteApp (TS RemoteApp) bit of a faff to setup but works ok - we have it on staff laptops.
