In terms of finding a role, from [bitter] experience - people mainly ask for Cisco or Juniper qualifications - that was the reason I did my CCENT over N+. CompTIA doesn't always get the recognition it deserves. Think bit of a difference in price, CCENT was £130 i think - N+ was like £200.00. Hopefully one of the recruiting types here will be able to give you some industry feedback!

Network+ is a good qualification, it isn't aimed at any one vendor whereas CCENT is Cisco and working on its CLI + core networking - it might get you included in a few more CV sifts with recruitment agencies. Tough call.

Vultr are pretty good, you can purchase an instance in the UK with cPanel on CentOS (under application) - I pay $20.00 a month for mine 15GB SSD, 768mb RAM, 1TB transfer and the performance is pretty good (I found it better than digital ocean). Support is very much do it yourself, unless something is wrong on the infrastructure or network you aren't going to get support, digital ocean was a little more helpful on that front - swings and roundabouts. It depends. You could just have one instance of MySQL, Apache & PHP and give them a folder to work in and make a database - e.g, http://server/STUDENT You could set it up on Windows if you wanted, something called XAMPP - just click, click, click and go. Might have to think about how you'll stop them deleting each others bits though.

I work now at a large software company in enterprise technical support and you're right to an extent - they are happy for bods who just turn up and make up the numbers and coast - liable to lose jobs in the frequent waves of reductions in forces, but some people work really hard and they get rewarded with stock, bonuses & promotion - that's the side I sit and I've done OK out of it - I guess it comes down to your character and whether you just want a job or a career.

I've worked in a startup, large companies and for 2 years education as a network manager - the expectation in a school of you is a lot less but so was the salary, it was alot of firefighting and it is a little community which can be a nice place when everyone works together, but often from experience ICT was made to be the scapegoat for teachers not planning lessons properly and as with other support staff you can be quickly out of the little community. Positive points: - Stress is less, but it has moments... setting up machines for tests or assembly projectors dying can be a little less fun. - Hours - In my case I was able to work 07:30 > 15:30 with 30 minutes lunch, that was good. - Relatively safe, but as others have said management changes and budget changes can quickly change that, but I feel less secure in the large company, to be honest! - Great place to get experience of the 'hands-on' side of ICT. Negative points: - No real interest in progressing you, if you can do the job that's enough - exception may be if trainee/apprentice - Sometimes politics with teachers vs support staff can mean a lot of tongue biting. - Salaries aren't great, no real benefits and little room for progression - Alot of frontline/firefighting That was my experience, but to be honest, I do miss working in a school - I liked my colleagues and I had a good relationship with teachers [most of the time]. Great stepping stone.

You can ask for whatever you'd like, if you can argue why it's necessary - could happen. In terms of the new duties because of new systems, you could ask to define the areas in the JD, but that goes back to the first point - they'll probably say but it comes under technical support of all systems and the network - broad terms are easier. Maybe come with your own redefined JD and reasons for the changes. Suggesting you may need to look elsewhere can work, but it can also go against you too; I was in a similar situation, rather than take my word for it they brought in an external consultant to tell them, this process went on for around 4 months - this upset me greatly and was the reason I left in the end - anything not to change my pay grade.

I found in the many discussions I've had, including in a school... the best way is to prove responsibility not workload. If they assume workload, they might be happier to get an apprentice or a part time member of staff than pay you more.

Stopped playing it for the subscription thing, was in Beta and it looked OK, but so buggy at the release. Have they cleared up the issues? Definitely worth playing now it's B2P, i don't have to feel like I'm not getting my subscriptions worth if i only play it a few hours a week.

Based on what @localzuk said, that might be true. BUT, would assume re-use and not re-sale? Anyway, like others have said, keep it on file and maybe look towards changing provider when you can.

It's not that they're counterfeit - they could be genuine, but it's not legal. System builders (e.g, Dell) are only supposed to use these against machines they build.

You can always trade as with a limited company, don't be too disheartened if all the good names are taken

I had this situation at a company I worked for 2 years ago, they didn't have to pay our wages... we only got paid by the administrators as we worked for them (few weeks work), had to apply to the government and managed to recoup 3/4 of my salary after filling in a bunch of forms and waiting nearly 2 months. I hope the administrators don't do this to them and the company has money for wages... but the administrators job is to pay what's owed... and if they owe a lot, you might get 2p in every pound... not a huge amount!
