Only other thing is to make sure the firmware is up to date on board. Also we found that classes where they had lots of other usb devices plugged in that seemed to cause issues. And also newer usb drivers for device if they exist.

How are the boards connected to the device, direct usb or faceplate?

We have had the last three series of boards and have very few issues compared to how much tlc we needed when we had projectors. It's important to keep the firmware up to date but if you have a smart advantage subscription that not a problem. You need to clean the sensors and they need to be run at 1080p ideally within 5 metres of the machine. We have found that not using faceplates and just running a direct usb and hdmi cable greatly improves the experience. We have the older 4000 series and have had no issues and we have about 30 of this model. Smart support are also excellent and much better than Steljes ever were.

Ok if you have the admin download of 15.2 look in the support folder and the Smart Install Manager should be in there.

I'm guessing you don't have any CDs that may have shipped with the boards (can't remember when they stopped this) that may work?

I'd be quite cautious of this as well as I suspect they would advise you to buy a newer board.

Won't the later version of Smart Installer work with this version?

Smart do run some sort of technology refresh program where you basically just pay them forever and they keep you supplied with boards etc. I've never done it but might be the way to go for some sites.

We are are now on our third version of Smart Interactive panels across my schools and they have gotten better as times goes on so I'm not concerned about new models coming out etc they just bring more features but are able to run the same software.

We're in the same boat with old Ipads you can't DEP. Shame apple won't allow it for older Ipads as would be incredibly useful. Saying that one of the biggest bonuses for DEP is the ability remotely update the OS and all these are stuck on 9.3.5 or whatever it is.

You could have the bulk of the machines on DHCP and then just use reservations for office and teachers?

Absolutely I see it time and time again and am forever doing ad hoc training for new staff to show them how to get up to speed etc.

No one wants to go looking for information. They want the information to come to them, newsletters, important dates etc. As a parent would rather have to go trawling through a website for newsletters and important dates or have that pushed to you through and app? The apps we use parents select the year group of their child and they only receive the information relevant to them.

A few of my school have their sites hosted by WebAnywhere and they got them to develop apps for them. https://www.webanywhere.co.uk/mobile may well give you a few pointers into what parents are after if nothing else.

This is what I would do. Launch a satellite into space and get that to transmit messages on all frequencies asking for apple to help with this. Make sure that satellite is nuclear powered and has back up solar panels. After say two or three hundred years you will get a response. Make sure you pass the info onto your successor as you will be long gone. Alternatively you could take the easy route and email [email protected] they are pretty good and seem to have a grasp on things. Years a go I would have left servers with pending updates for a few days or weeks! Now I'm always rebooting at the earliest opportunity and we mostly schedule reboots in the middle of the night or weekends etc. Same with PCs if we have staff that have pending updates but never log off their computer they'll receive a message from me. If they ignore I'll force a reboot on the machine.

One OS to rule them all!

We use Meraki and it's a two second job to employ bandwidth limits per client, per application to share the bandwidth equally. Surely the test should equally focus on the software as much as the hardware? Otherwise it's only half a test. Car analogy here. Put foot down on a Ferrari Enzo with traction control off, wheel spin etc. Turn on launch control and it's gonna work a lot better!
