When going through the azure backup signup process you can choose your data cenrte eg London, Northen Europe etc. Not sure what's it's like for O365.

I look after the school asset register but this has to be done with the Bursar and the Head. If I had full control of it I could easily write off a few machines etc and no one would be any the wiser. All my schools were on Junior Lib and moved to the hosted version. Nothing but complaints from the Library staff about speed, why can't we go back to the old one etc. Some of my sites have had a message saying their hosted installation will soon move to Microsoft Azure servers and they will need to change their shortcut etc to point to this instead. Perhaps that will help?

All my schools are RM schools and they have provided a a large article on their Windows 10 strategy as the new Windows 10 method is a pretty big shift in operation for them as well. Here are a few key bits from that article. They stick to the CBB model and use the "Plan and Prepare" and "Targeted Deploy" phases from Microsoft for internal testing and then use schools to Field Trial before deploying to the rest of us. They are advising schools to use the education version as the Pro version omits a number of GPO controls around the store etc. The want us all on at least 1607 to take advantage of the "Active Hours" to insure no PC will reboot with a user logged on or inside the time frame we specify. Now whilst we are with RM it means we can't just get the latest build as soon as Microsoft release. It does mean when we do get it it's been through a pretty thorough testing process and I'm confident we will have very few issues. We actively Field Trial the builds for RM which is useful as it helps me to decide how soon we should push this version out. What will the benefits to staff and pupils will be. How much work will it be for me etc.

Yes RM just change the bios so they all boot from lan, change the logo and add a default password.

I've done my job for 16 years and whether the children have been using windows 95 or windows it 10 has made very little difference. They have clicked the start button and launched an application.

We've never really had much of a password policy for my infant and junior schools as we really haven't had any issues. Having said that perhaps in today's world getting the children to understand the importance of a password is really a great skill to have. The earlier we can help them with that the better. It's bad enough listening to the staff all sharing their passwords for this that and the other. Thinking I'm contributing to this situation in the future doesn't make me feel good!

You can only self enrol in DEP if the iPad can be upgraded to ios 11 iirc.

I manage my children's accounts through this https://account.microsoft.com/account/manage-my-account when they log in to windows 10 PC they get the time I have allowed them, and each week I'm emailed a list of all websites visited etc. You can also set time limits on xbox etc and turn on parental control etc and all cloud managed. My children are aware of this and know I can see what's going on so that may help, especially with two teenage sons! When they run out of time they click a request on the screen for more time, I get an email and decide what to do. Nasty websites are filtered out etc.

We buy either Dell XPS or a Microsoft Surface device for them. In some cases they get an Ipad pro as well!

We have cheap and cheerful buffalo terastation that we use for student video projects and all media files. They are getting long in the tooth now so slowly replacing with synology boxes. We only have supervised devices in school and they use an app called file explorer if uploading from an Ipad or it's just another mapped drive on a pc.
