  1. I know where you’re coming from. As a 3rd party company it’s frustrating to see people and especially companies not even put in a minimum effort. I don’t know how they get away with - and it will ultimately be someone else who has to pick up the pieces. I guess there’s also those who want to do it properly but budget cuts and time availability make it difficult at best.
  2. There’s plenty of things to worry about in the world. Someone else’s website isn’t one. Ofsted will check what data is on and if the statutory data is there.
  3. Could you not subscribe to a newer version of you’re Smart board / screen. I Know there’s a cost - but a lot less than non smart hardware.
  4. We found chrome and smart drivers 11.4 could be problematic. But the drivers were legacy and the school no longer used smart boards so we removed it.
  5. It’s nothing something I’d look to do. The stability is likely to be an issue, lack of options (ports, access to sites) and the potential to go way over data allowance / needs. Is there nothing FTTC wise that you could consider ?
  6. Are they staying on the room? If so you’re buying the wrong product. Laptops aren’t what you want!
  7. The last thing I would do is start getting new kit. Survey what you have, how well it works and develop a multi year plan with SLT. Do you have admin credentials for key stuff? Pretty major. Remove / reset old admin accounts. But most of all id talk to staff. Developing a positive relationship will help you long term.
  8. So seriously the same thing happened twice.
  9. Not if you can get the same sort of rent from another company.
  10. Also with Ebico - for a good 8 years including a house move.
  11. I’ve run a business and could make that decision now to charge for that. But it makes no sense. It’s not how we go about business. It’s 5 minutes of my/somebody’s time (tops) but earns more goodwill (and no ill will) if I do it at no cost. Dammit I spent an unplanned afternoon in a cupboard re patching a cabinet yesterday. I better earn some goodwill for that [emoji23] I certainly lost a few pounds!!!
  12. Income != Profit. Which one is it ?
  13. MDM will male a big difference. I was reading the pro version of mosyle has times profiles which could be useful. We use Meraki systems manager and it’s a God send for pushing apps and settings. We tend to try and encourage cloud use (one drive, google) or apps that will sync to an smb drive (PhotoSync) etc.
  14. We moved from a <£16 a month 2 bed terrace that was on water rages to a 4 bed new build so didn’t get a choice of water meter or not. That said I’m pleasantly surprised at the -£20 a month for 4 of us which includes 2 adults and 2 kids. We don’t really skimp on water and I even occasionally wash the car at home now. I even watered some of the garden yesterday. The cynic in me says once everyone is on a meter they’ll hike the price !
  15. We can do that ourselves at work. I just want to play with it initially.
  16. Yeah the google cloud sql paid sub stopped me playing with it just this week. I’m going to read up on using external DB though.
  17. Who owns / manages your domain? You should be able to add the MX records back on easy enough.
  18. We install a LOT of iiyama. It’s our go to board really. Had one failure where it was replaced without requested on a de install re install. I will say the positioning of the IT sensor is poor though. However we have a relationship where we can feed back to them on that. It’s pretty cool.

    CCTV for home.

Is the NVR and router defo on different IP’s ? Can you ping the nvr if plugged in direct / through another switch (with router not connected) ?
  20. We tend to use offline files although some are moving to one drive / google. Where we install our our internet and filtering product we have a bit more control and will setup VPN access for them.
  21. I don’t think two weeks is cause for alarm to be honest. Get your research and evidence together - from here, the ICO etc. Then present your reasons for encrypting. Depending on your position / status you might be able to make a decision post meeting even if they decide against. But if not I would go on record - in writing - to say you strongly recommend usb encryption. For what it’s worth we are telling all our schools it needs to be done on usb devices and teacher laptops at least.
  22. We’ve used Synology rack models In a corporate infrastructure for multiple VM’s with a couple of hosts. No problems. We’re happy with performance.
  23. Hi All Just wonding if I can pick people's brains! We have 3 users with Macbooks that BIND to an AD Server (Win2k16). The macbook are now in a state where they will login to the server and mount the home drive automatically. We have a login script that runs and mounts several other shares from the Windows server. When the user is off site the macbook allows login (cached version) and once logged in they can launch the VPN which also runs a script to mount drives. However, at least one user is complaining loudly of performance issues generally. Slow start up, overheating, crashes, fans spinning up loudly, generally slow response of the system. The other users seem less affected but still grumble a bit. The one thing we did do is copy the entire lcoal profile to the domain profile on the Macbook. We suspect some hard links to some apps etc are still present and one of our options is to perform a clean install of OSX and start with a clean profile. Another option is to go back to a standalone macbook and some sort of auto filesync software. Do any of you have any recommendations? So the question is have any of you had general performance issues with Mac's laptops on a Windows domain? Network speeds (data transfer) have no real issues? And secondly filesync recommendations? The Macbook in quuestion are relatively new (less than 2 years) SSD-based models - but I don't have current exact spec Thanks J
  24. Some of our schools have moved over. Not heard a bad word. And the migration AFAIK went very well. It was well handled at least and Arbor seemed very pro active with it.
