We’ve used iiyama for many years and 99% of teachers love them. In the days before iiyama, when interactive screens were new, we did have a school cautious about using them in the upper primary age. For maths in particular the 42” wasn’t physically big enough. Of course the minimum we usually install these days is 65” so that negates the problem some what. And touch response is fantastic. Thinks pinned in the bezel can cause a false touch - but less so these days.

Not sure how primaries need all that (although much of it - found a software company who said they’d consider it a feature request to add smb2/3 support for their file transfer app. Sigh. ) The business side do all of that and more though.

I work for a third party company. Minimum required is not a way to run a business. I have seen plenty that do. Get in a profit gouge. But I also see many that do a great job. So the sweeping statement is very disrespectful.

Monitoring doesn’t have to be flagging up items from the logs. It can mean a teacher actually keeping an eye on the class. I can certainly see where Witch is coming from within primary schools. Secondary would be much different though I think. That said I do think it’s good practice and an important feature to have used identifiable info and good reporting. As with all things in life there is a balance. Present the user with as much info info as possible in an easy to read and understand manner with minimal fuss. But a good filtering company should be able to help you dig further into the logs for further analysis - even if that’s behind the scenes.

We put 240gb ssd in everything we can now for clients - desktop or laptops. We’d probably get away with 128gb for desktops with redirection to be honest.

I’ve got a couple of unifi and their NVR. It does its job, allows me to check things from anywhere and once setup is fire and forget. It’s amazing how many giant spiders like them too [emoji23]

You could use a unifi or Mikrotik point to point link. Or depending on distance a good unifi nearest to the out building. Can you cable it back to the super hub. That said I run a Mikrotik as a router and a SH as a modem and it’s flawless. (And a unifi AP)

One of our schools paid for it just after it became chargeable. Wasn’t too bad - similar pricing to zuludesk at the point. However it took ages to get a quote and pay for. And the last quote we had for a school was way more than that. Switched to mosyle now - and would pay for the premium features if needed too.

We’ve done this recently in a primary school. Exiting staff shares became a read only ‘archive’ staff were told to only move across what they needed. I didn’t really expect it to work and staff would copy everything back. But to be fair to them, they’ve stuck with it and the whole AD and file structure is sooooo much better (we inherited the original setup). But I agree. People are lazy. Most people who copy it all or nothing as it’s easier.

There’s also an annual cost for chrome books although granted it’s not in the league if MS licensing. We’re now at a point with MS where their M365 offering is better value for us in a lot of cases - when it comes to ovs renewal time.

We were in a similar situation with the LA. We created a new tennant with our own domain and setup all new users mailboxes. Then the LA reset the passwords on an agreed date to allow us to bulk migrate. Not perfect but the best we could get from the LA. It actually worked very well and transferred everything we needed across.

At work hosts are named after Simpson characters. In schools they are a bit more mundane. DC01 etc.

If you’re not using g suite already and don’t have chrome books then o365 is the obvious choice unless you have a plan to fully embrace GSuite. We’ve never done a ‘full’ migration from exchange but have uploaded mailboxes into o365 without issue. Just takes time (even with a great internet connection). I personally wouldn’t go on prem now. Start with the free A1 tier and save your resources on site.

All part of the plan to go full office365 and cloud based.

I’d be quite interested in that if you could Pm a link. I believe we’re now at the point where M365 is better value for our schools. (Although not all)

Yeah I can see that. Feels 2-4 episodes short to me. But sure what we’d have 2 more seasons of tho. We know it’s coming to a head. And isn’t it just.

I’m using the virgin supplied router in modem only mode and a Mikrotik router. The virgin box (v2) has been pretty solid. The Mikrotik not missed a beat. I have a my main, cctv Vlan, guest network (wireless) vlan and it runs just great.

Yep, GPP has never let me down for any of the printers I’ve deployed from various manufacturers.
