Yep, a restriction on removing the profile will do it. We use ASM/DEP for all new purchases and deployments. For existing kit we tend to use AC2 1) Restore iOS to highest version possible 2) Rename iPads. Optionally install WiFi profile 3) prepare and enrol in MDM (mosyle for us). This is the supervision bit and key for a good mdm experience. 4) deploy everything else via mdm

I was an early adopter of Tado and it’s been awesome. Easy enough to fit for a complete novice with bridge and wireless Thermostat (once we’d realised the new build builders had wired the zones the wrong way around!) I also use the geo fencing with other systems as part of Ifttt etc. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend tado now purely because of the subscription model. I don’t pay anything now as I have v2. I originally rented it but became a bit annoyed after they a) forgot to charge me a year then back dates it and b) didn’t provide the promised hw updates - the original perk of renting. But as a system it works wonderfully well.

The best thing of course is just to talk to them. Which is what we do. They’ll come ask us if they aren’t sure about something. The dns level stuff is for the innocent searches etc. Set at router level and leave it.

I’ve started using Cloudflares 1.1.1.3 for dns ‘filtering’ for the kids. They have their own wireless network on their a vlan. I’ve toyed with open dns in the past. Actually firewall is a Mikrotik router.

PSTN will be ceased in 2025. In Sailsbury they’ve had a trial where fttp now gets to 75% of the population. I believe that if you can get FTTP then they won’t allow you to order fttc. Not quite sure what the 25% of the population do tho.

We have crap fttc or Virgin here. To be fair can’t fault virgin - it’s been about as solid and stable as you get. I use their modem and a Mikrotik router. 200/20 Openreach are laying fttp right now though. Lines of back to back vans around. At the very least I can true my play BT against Virgin at renewal time

Indeed we found better to licence a perpetual licence per machine than a whole school license. That’s in an early years setting with lots of staff etc

Unifi has an interesting mesh router system. Dream machine had router, wireless, firewall and cloud controller built in.

There are some thinkpads r5/8gb/256gb that aren’t bad and you could get a powered dock / monitor too

Yep I’m not massively keen on leasing - but for some large outlay projects it can work, depending on what you need and when.

Have you thought of leasing? It’s a big capital outlay so worth thing a just perhaps to get a load of screens in at once Tend to agree on the interactivity but though I do see teachers use it at primary. Increasingly wanting to cast tho. The thing about commercial screens (which are so much more robust) is that they aren’t much less than interactive. Or more in some cases.

Almost all of your primaries (and infants, nurseries) have gone arbor. None have looked back. From single schools to MATS feedback is excellent. We’ve not been too involved in the migration process other than to run a sims backup and upload to arbors servers. The rest happens magically.

We’ve Run many unifi AC-lites in our primary’s with no problems.

Sims primary aka sims 8 will never see the light of day. I do know of a school who had a demo and laughed it out of the building. Capita just trying to milk one last sucker

I use a unifi AC lite a ceiling mounted at the top of the stairs but it’s a relative new build of of 2014. Coverage everywhere in a 4 bed detached + garden which is cool. The super hub 2 wasn’t bad but the AC lite is fantastic

Ok could *maybe* male a case of sims was still pretty much a monopoly and ruled the sector. But arbor, bromcom etc have 4 years head start on the cloud version.

Sims is dead in primary and dying in secondary. The smartest thing capita have done in years is to try and sell. I just can’t see who would buy (but then I never understood why anyone would actually pay money to capita for anything)

I’ve not had experience if recent MacBooks save a bit of setting up - they quick, light and look great. What I will say is that my 15” MacBook is 8 years old and I can’t justify buying a new one (and I try!). It was upgraded to 500gb (and 16gb ram) then 1tb ssd a long time ago. It’s still easily fast enough and is used every day. Even the 8 year old battery still gives me 2 hours use and I can replace that. The main think now is that it can get pretty hot a bit again I think when I get around to replacing the heat paste that will help. So imo the MacBooks are worth the extra investment.

Only if you go for the cheapest quote. And the supplier fully discounts. Or the other suppliers aren’t able to sell at less margin.
