While personally I think it’s good to try and get the kids used to this - even in year 1, I’m sure Wonde and the like so something with QR codes / badges / cards etc that make it easier.

We’re working with one of our academy trusts on a full upgrade. We decided WiFi 6 makes sense - and current models are going EoL.

I bought an AirTag. The idea is sound and I’ve used similar products that didn’t have the features or just didn’t work well. I think Apple have done a decent job balancing security with ‘crowd sourcing’ a find my item. Something tile just cannot do as they don’t have the numbers or the ecosystem. I got the AirTag, tested and once down was a little underwhelmed. Until I lose my expensive sunglasses again and at the point I’ll love the the AirTag should I be able to locate them. I also bought a key ring similar to the belkin ones for £3.49 from Jeff Bezos tat bazaar So, good idea, better than stuff on the existing market, similarly priced and works. Just not an exciting product

Not only will I be retired, there’s every chance I’ll have shuffled off this earth by the time sims 8 arrives. My advice would be to look to a modern, web based MIS - I like arbor but there are others worth looking at.

Yep my skyQ (no minis though) is using a /24 on a different 192 range and works fine. Goes through a unifi switch too. Hikvision also working without issue although that’s on its own vlan as was the unifi video system before it. I’d be inclined to think it’s some sort of weird sky mesh WiFi issue but that’s a guess

You need both onsite and offsite backup. Onsite is quicker to backup and restore - the risk is fire / theft / damage is still a risk. Don’t keep a nas box next to the server for example. Offsite backup imo is a MUST for disaster Recovery. That may be only critical data for the school to get back in its feet. Teacher of course see all their data as critical. If you’re using sims in a mat, stop! Use arbor or another cloud based modern MIS. Benefits include mat wide access, no need for onsite servers etc. They’re also much nicer to use. Investigate redstor and veeam for on offsite.

The AC lites will do it. I had some serious performance issues when we had an issue where one had linked as a wireless uplink. Mind you, it was sending a full iMac ict suite of data back and forth to the server. So if it’s bit services to many devices and / or traffic is fairly light, worth a go imo

I’ve just set a domain from scratch for a school that’s part of a MAT but was flooded and completely renovated. Reading current best practice we went for School.mat.org It’s so neat to be able to start from scratch, have a decent rack mount server and all the same network switches etc (in a primary school).

We use our own cloud controller, hosted on a Linux machine in our data centre. What we do tend to do is the export site function is the recent controllers. This will prompt you to save a site backup, import that into your controller and the. Ask for your new inform address. It’s so much easier. It also converts backups from older controller to newer versions.

I’ve seen this bug across AC-Lites. It’s coincided with a couple of server based DHCP/NIC issues that masked the problem. But it’s defo affected at least 1 of our schools. I’ve just updated 2 or 3 schools to the latest firmware and the dashboard shows improvements - but I won’t know for certain until they fire up clients. And they’re on half term this week.

We have a full night from any time. Is building to 80% change at midnight and hovering around that than 90-100% between 9am and 1pm tomorrow. Wife is on nights so maybe staying at work! If it does happen, I have a feeling there won’t be much home schooling done tomorrow.
