Our schools have generally moved away first to .org and increasingly to .school these days. Some do keep .sch.uk as a secondary / website name.

When I’ve done this I’ve typically Created a new drive Copy over last years worth of work Make existing staff share a read only archive which the staff have access to for X amount of time Remove original share (I’ll keep that archived somewhere but not give staff access)

I would say it should cost ~£4200 +Vat per year to cover the desktop pack. Office 2016+, Win 10 Edu and Windows Server client cals. I’d have to check what our vlsc shows but I’m sure that Win 10 Pro and LTSC we’re also included previously.

We’ve got hundreds spread over at least 20 schools and that will double in the near future. We run a central controller and they all connect to that so we get alerts and can perform updates from anywhere. Originally started with the standard AP’s at 2.4Ghz now usual the 5Ghz basic model. They’ve be problem free. I’ve had two fail - and that was me accident my putting 48v through the 24v models on setup. My only bug bear really is that updates don’t always apply / particular on older models with manually adding the update url to each AP. Not a problem on newer hardware.

Yeah support is just script readers and ‘we’ll send an engineer’ I haven’t need to really lean on it tho. I’d take 50mbps less download and add it to the upload though!

I’m on virgin - broadband only for £31 (200mb). To be honest it’s always been very good and rarely do we have drop outs. For anything prolonged (by which I mean an hour or two) I tether my phone - currently Vodafone. That will do for iPads and laptop at least.

Went down 3 times here. First time for 8 long minutes. I had daughter streaming a video in Plex, lad playing with friends on Xbox and me trying to remote session a server restore. We all sat there scared and panicked and wondered if it would ever end. Been okay since tho. But all our schools use use virgin connectivity went down - so lots of e mail alerts x 3

I’ve been going 550mm minimum so the 600mm mentioned seems sensible. When we started putting in PoE switches we found some of them are quite deep and need cramming in the older cabs And we’ve started with some rackmount servers but are often hindered with depth. That said, the latest server I’m putting in is ~300mm depth. Amazing.

Mikrotik for me. Can’t remember what model I have to be extant but it does everything I need and more. Can dial VPN from special IP addresses to VLans (guest wireless that can’t access all my smart features) to VPN server. Paired with a unifi AP upstairs that gives me a quick, stable and fast network (Apart from my flakey toughswitch!)

I’d agree with that. The geek bit at the beginning was good. The second half of the show was better than the first but it didn’t make me laugh out loud.

Yep, no margin in iPads. Not much in laptops / computers but close to zero in iPads. Much simpler to configure though.

What software did you use to P2V? In my experience of converting Win2k8 it’s important to make sure the physical is fully updated with windows updates first. Also remove the Hyper-v role if it has one. Boot into safe mode first once virtualised.

Multi boot option - password reset iso and a boot disk to restore an image from a local disk. But don’t use usb much at all these days.

We’re a business looking after a number of primary schools. We’ve encouraged staff to work from home for a couple of weeks. Last week we decided no more onsite visits unless essential. Today the office is closed and it’s ticket only Remote support. The MD and myself (as a manager) are going to install routers in the last few schools we’re due to onboard as the LA are ceasing all IT support and internet connections in 1st April. I’d rather but it’s not internet after 31st I’d we can’t get in. Strange times. Gonna be deploying a lot of updated VM’s for the next few months though. Our server game will be strong [emoji2]

LG or Samsung. I got a 55” LG SM8500 for ~£600. You’d get 2x 65” versions in your budget. OLED are nice - but not sure they’re worth the extra yet. That said to me, £600-£800 is the Tv budget and they change so quick.

We have interviewed today. Everyone asked about corona virus, isolations and plans. It’s difficult when things are changing daily and there’s a lack of authority on what will happen.

I often do this too (and watch BigJetTV). Been looking at Italy over the last week. Only flights to Moscow seem to be happening. Spain reduced too.
