I think Plex registers with the Plex servers using your login so might need some external access. I can’t remember if you can bypass this feature - I was setting mine up in a cloud server so wasn’t an issue.

I bought my-fox (now Somfy). It’s pretty good and maybe even better than I. Expected. Totally wireless so does use batteries. We’ve had it about 6 months so far. Sensors in doors / windows, loud internal alarm and a internal camera that has a physical shutter for privacy. They are bringing an external camera out later this year but I went with separate Unifi CCTV anyway.

Yep done a load of non-TPM laptops with bitlocker encryption of the whole drive. Not even had any teacher complaints !

I’ve run cat6. The distance don’t require more - and I expect wireless advances will cover more of my devices at acceptable home use speeds in the future. As it is a don’t have that many wired devices - my media centre is ‘cloud’ hosted elsewhere too.

We had a similar issue I think. From memory (sorry!) it was that each bank of 3 slots would only take 16gb if you used a 16gb module.

Concorde had plenty of life left in her when they retired her. The A380 my new favourite (and the best plane I’ve ever flown on). But even that is struggling. Everyone going for twin engine long range. Boring though. And I don’t want to sit in a toothpaste tube A320 for 7+ hours.

Whether that’s true or not - I think you’d expect some tragedy as we push the boundaries of exploration. Seeing the shuttle close up she did look battered - but the whole concept of a ‘space plane’ captures the imagination. I watched in wonder every launch since I was a kid.

The US killed Concorde out of spite. There’s didn’t work and they didn’t like it so banned routes due to the sonic boom. You think they’d have done that with a US manufactured aircraft? She is a thing of beauty though and I fully agree it was a backwards step when she was retired. My ambition was to fly on concord and I’m sad I’ll never get chance. With that and the space shuttle retired I feel we’ve lost the two all time most beautiful engineering wonders. Elon Musk’s space programme has finally got me excited about it again though.

I’d prefer the Ubiquiti edge switches to unifi. Much more configurable - but not managed in the unifi controller.

Good point about Openreach and end customers. I wasn’t thinking from that point of view - we’ve just had dealings with them for 3 schools recently so they’re fresh in my mind. I’ve known schools who are paying for lines they have no idea about though. So sometimes finance don’t have the answers.

I was going to suggest that BT open reach would be better than business but HA HA HA HA HA HA I think openreach would be the line installers - but good luck !

Really? I don’t understand why you’d spend the extra on a Mac just to run Windows really. And not in boot camp I do appreciate running VM’s is nice. But with Windows also slowing working to some arm versions it could be less of an issue. Might make me wait a bit longer to upgrade my MacBook. It’s still as fast as ever despite being 6 years old nearly. Just a bit heavy now - but I like the (relatively) multitude of ports it has.

Don’t really want to get into a ‘debate’ about Apple vs whatever. But I think it could be a good thing. Sure it will give Apple more control - but again thats bit necessarily a bad thing. They’ve invested heavily in designing their chips. As long as they’re aren’t limited in features purely to add battery life.

They’ve been planning and talking about this for a long time. It makes a lot of sense for Apple. I do wonder how they’ll perform next to the intel chips - worst case it means that the competitors / anti-Apple sheep would start quoting raw spec speeds etc. Funny how we’ve gone full circular though. The glory years of computing with the Amiga saw those having lots of custom chips and Co processors. Then we went to Intel/PowerPC and ‘standard’ components and now we’re hearing back again

Probably. But I think if you mounted fairly central to the house then you’d be fine. My mums house is 60’s and she has to 2.4ghz ones - but mainly cos 1 is on the wrong side of the original external wall. I think mounted anywhere near the stairs would be fine.

I have a new build 4 bed and an Ac Lite. Mounted on the ceiling above the stairs so pretty central. Coverage everywhere. It’s brilliant.
