We run a cloud based controller of unifi. It’s actually installed on centos and on one of our web servers.

Been blizzard/sunshine/blizzard/sunshine all day in Sheffield area. Had to push 4 cars up a hill on the way back this evening. Got the bmw home ok though. And a little bit of fun too!

We generally use llyama. 5 year de Install re install warranty but I’ve only seen 1 faulty panel in 7 years of supplying. Not a fan of clever touch screens tbh

Yeah interactive screen on a trolley would be my recommendation. Wouldn’t be touching anything else.

Yep, they are phasing out the 24v and moving to 48v I think. Certainly the 48v AC lites are readily available now. We put some of the early ones in last August - but did find a couple of 48v switches didn’t really work well. Ended up going to back to a ubiquiti edgeswitch.

You can also use the unifi or (recommended) the edgeswitches - that will do both 24v and 48v PoE+. They’re actually decent switches. But it might prove better value to go for the AC-Pro if you have existing PoE switches.

We’ve still be putting Ac-lites in primaries - with Ac-pro in certain areas.

We run the controller on a Linux VM web server. Our various schools unifi connect to that which is brilliant. So accessible anywhere and graphs and usage data available. I even have my home controller on it.

Recommend and use it for all our customers. Only had 1 issue that myself when I fried a 24v AP. Installed hundreds. All running beautiful and all schools with it delighted. We even replaced a meraki system in one school for the same cost as 1yrs licensing.

As above. Terminal is the way to go. I’ve done that successfully for bother Sierra and high Sierra.

While this can be a great solution my experience is that without mains power there isn’t enough Poe power for more than 1 AP. We did have a long cable to to PoE the switch though.

Issues we’ve had with AD bound macs recently have related to FileVault. If it’s on you need to enable for all users.

Snow melting here in South Yorkshire. We are due a fair bit overnight this weekend probably though. The wind chill must be -10. But I’m going to clear a path for guests coming around tonight - and the Indian restaurant delivery man!

Our MD and FD went over for a short break in Dublin. Due back yesterday. All flights cancelled until Saturday now. They’re are gutted because we sponsored a beer festival here [emoji23]

Snow here is 4-5” and some drifts too. All local schools shut - including my visits and the kids. But main roads fine now so could be back open tomorrow. Unless we get more snow. Very windy tho.

I’m just spec’ing up a server for someone. Just 2 VM’s I think and one is going to be SIMS. 32gb here. Incidentally - what sort of licensing costs you getting ?

Hitting South Yorkshire now. Got a good 3-4 inches and roads are covered. I love snow and love driving in it but just the drive home of the office was terrible. Snowing heavy and blizzards then excess snow blowing across from the fields. Zero visibility. Even the M1 was 30mph for the short stretch I was on. Got up to 50 in the M18! Kids schools closing - so if I can make it to them we’ll play in the snow!

Yep. I left the LA in 2000 after the frustration trying to look after 107 schools by myself. My boss at the time did training. We setup our own partnership and looked after 25-30 schools at peak with an additional tech. Did that for 11 years before ‘merging’ with a local AV company. That went well for 5 years or so before things went a bit south. Worked with a mates business a bit (he did telecoms, I ran school side IT) and ended up where I am now. An IT specialist with education side, web development and Business IT support. Self employment was stressful and hardwork - but I was my own boss. Not sure I want to go there again but have no regrets about doing it. Wish I knew then what I know now! Schools are funny beasts though and in these tough times, loyalty and quality stand for nothing !

Thanks. Yes when I last tried it seemed to be in the high side (!). I’ll never quite understand smart / promethean business model (other than to try and drive sales to their hardware of course).

Can you purchase a site / multi use licence for 3rd party screens ? (Sorry to hijack the thread)

I find the whole MS office portal flakey at best. Different browsers might help you here - but what works one day might not work the next!

I predict nothing major (unless you’re southern then it will be the end of the world). We had constant flakes over night - I know because my cameras have had almost constant recording. Barely anything on the ground though.
