[1809, ou] Stop the amd catalyst control center from working
chazzy2501 posted a topic in Windows 10
yes, the amd catalyst control center works for standard users! (pupil in my case) Great not only that they can set all kinds of custom refresh rates and resolutions but this has actually killed a Dell Monitor today! I have another that wont work on DVI anymore, I've uninstalled the graphics, factory reset the monitor but it is F'd… Lucky VGA still works. This is a new batch of PCs (to the Windows 10 image) that have the 6550d graphics from an AMD A8 APU. Windows just grabbed new drivers with all the trimmings. What amazing is that it allows standard users to fiddle with system settings. I now have a number of PCs with portrait displays in 400x240 res! with crazy colours and some are out of range. Anyhow how do I stop the control center from loading? (the old control center) -
I've found that the hdmi to VGA adapters use the HDMI power this is pretty limited and not all HDMI outputs are equal. This means that the VGA adaptor sometimes fails to work at all or has a weak signal that is easily lost on a 10m run (hdmi or VGA) depending.

I also already have an old deploy of DC from 2015 could I just drop in the new msp into that directory? I've lost the tool to make a transform...
-
can someone tell me how to slipsteam the msi, and where I get the config tool? I have done the agreement email but the link to the tools doesn't work. I heard there is a bad exploit in adobe dc last month so I need to expedite a new deploy for my win8 clients.

Technician 101: Do not fudge something for people because you can. State that there is only 6 ports so only 6 PCs or they can get a networking guy back to do the job correctly. Unfortunately you've gone down the accommodation route (noob move) now you'll be fudging and making do then ultimately taking the blame when it fails. oh, put the networks back to automatic, (manual entry typos are easy) yellow triagle can mean no ip, no internet, (different issues) if you assume that your always getting the same error you'll get stuckin a loop. Always with these problems is to remove everything do your steps 1 at a time and PROVE (to yourself) that every step is as you expect (no assumptions) (ipconfig each PC as you connect, ping 8.8.8.8)

in the pic I used some kingdian 120GB SSDs as a test and it seemed to go well. I then purchased 6 2tb SSHDs and they worked well for a couple of hours but then became super slow. The server ilo stated that the drives were overheating. (they were not) it crippled the drives speed, and ramped up the servers fans to 100%. This is a known characteristic, (not a fault) you must buy certified drives I've bought a 5.25" caddie and will use the internal sata ports and software drive pools in server 2016.- 13 replies

Ah the HDCP 2.2 (which I was calling HDMI dur.) the projector wont support that but the amp would os fail on bluray.....well does the 4k stream on amazon and Netflix require HDCP 2.2... probably. I have an xbox one s (I don't own any uhd blurays yet) that outputs in atmos but the issue is that it always outputs in atmos even on single channel b&w movies from the 40's so I can't tell if its just upsampling the dd+ stream to atmos... it lacks the meaty sound of atmos so I suspect so.
-
I'm not sure if the projector could handle a 4k image (downscale or otherwise.) I'm not sure if HDMI 1.3 can handle it either. I'm thinking that the projectors capabilities will be passed on through the receiver to the firestick. What will the 4k firestick do, limit its self to 1080p streams? or down scale. But I just can't find the info on what happens in this case because a 20Mbps 4k stream down scaled (locally) to 1080p will look and sound better that a native 1080p dd+ 5Mbps stream
-
I currently have a home cinema setup that is amazing! (brag) I've a benq 1070w (HDMI 1.3) which gives me an amazing 1080p 80" image that looks amazing. I also have a 7.1 Pioneer 4k Atmos Amp (HDMI2.2) a recent upgrade from my old Denon. I have the gen2 firestick doing its 1080p thing but the video with Amazon and Netflix is stuck at 5mbps 1080p and DD+ audio. Does anyone know what'll happen if I upgrade to the 4k firestick? Will it access the 4k 20Mbps stream and play it at 1080p for my projector? will it only access the 1080p stream and thus not allow me to access the atmos audio? 4k projectors are still too expensive and I'm really happy with my projector. But I'd like the atmos sound. (which from my laptop sounds really meaty, bladerunner 2049 is great)

you could add the script to a scheduled task that you allow to run on demand and place the creds of a privileged user then use GPP to deploy it. Then create a shortcut to the scheduled task.

Vlans really only help manage broadcast traffic, this shouldn't transition past the access point unless you've specifically allowed this. So 1 VLAN, unless you intend to have other policies apply to certain groups. Guest VLAN, Admin VLAN, etc. with different bandwidth constraints etc. but you could do that via SSID on the same VLAN. VLANs need routing so I assume you have a layer 3 core switch that could handle all this? I like the VLAN / SSID but have deviated personally for Guest and Governor Guest access.

Laptop Docking Stations - What do you think?
chazzy2501 replied to ICTDirect_Dave's topic in Our Advertisers
Just to pile on, I'm currently purchasing HP 640 G1 laptops (4th Gen) because its the last HP laptop to support the old style docks. The old docks can be purchased in bulk from ebay for as little as £12! They've on the whole been great. I've still not done the whole school as I know they'll be too old soon. In the areas I have placed them teachers think they're amazing. Most of my teachers are still using the HP EliteBook 8460p £120 of awesome. -
Replace Corel Draw X4 our vector illistration package for D&T
chazzy2501 replied to chazzy2501's topic in Enterprise Software
We already have 2d design, I always install it, I never knew what it was. We have the V2 site license. It does look primitive but at least it still works I think they still want a Corel Draw x4 replacement though. -
X4 doesn't work with Windows 10.. I need a vector tool for free that will allow us to create product packages (think flatpack cubes with pictures) and send 2d vectors to our laser cutter (you print to the laser cutter as long as it sees true vectors it will plot). The new version is just too expensive, serif is out of date and abandoned (we have the serif draw x4 and I can't get the laser printer to play well with it anyway) I was looking at Inkscape but it looks more arty than design and technology. ideas? cheers

I've got a shared mailbox that 7 people have read write access to (as they need to tidy, create folders etc.) I have a single folder that keeps getting moved (and I can't figure out why) how do I stop accidental folder movements? (in general or just that folder)

Laptop Docking Stations - What do you think?
chazzy2501 replied to ICTDirect_Dave's topic in Our Advertisers
These newer USB-C docks in practice can provide everything on a single cable including power. Now I just need a fleet of compatible laptops to go with them. I'm guessing a 90watt dock would be the best bet with lightning support. -
OK Troubleshooting this with RM this morning and we've found that it is indeed as you state @abaxter2 if we disable the sslfilter proxy that RM uses the dictation service springs to life! I also discovered that whilst using edge to go to bing.com the certificate is flagged (the RM issued cert) I saw when using wireshark (on dictate) that a few queries from the dictation software had the a-edge in them, I wasn't sure if this is related. But if Bing with edge can spot the interjected RM certificate then maybe that's what is fouling the platform.bing.com stuff.
