  1. you used carbon copy?
  2. I do similar except 10 down 2 up. (as we 80/20 on the guest access) you can still white list certain devices.
  3. I have a collection of MAC MINI's 2014s that are getting real slow. No RAM or CPU upgrade available but we can install an SSD to replace the HDD... Can I do this without having to reinstall all the software, accounts, other random bs... A clone would be nice. I have a WD blue SSD that is 500GB (vs the installed 1tb hdd) the WD comes with acronis but it's probably windows only... cheesr help blah..
  4. when someone complains, buy a new keyboard
  5. I've been without a GPU for ages and was hoping to get one of these for retail £230....ha
  6. and there is still the "home use program"
  7. I've had one fail, it turned out that the power supply wasn't supplying one of the voltages. 3.3v I think. I binned it after that. it wouldn't even telnet (as it'd need said voltage)
  8. Yeah I had rats in the attic, they were running under the insulation, so that's where to poop was. I had some wire mesh installed where they were climbing the wall and coming up under the eve. This was because a site near me was being developed and the rats were fleeing. Never had to kill one the mesh went up, no more rats! I had to remove a few sections of insulation for the poop as it was too numerous for the old Henry to liberate.
  9. UPDATE: it's the HDD! I installed a 2tb HDD in the PC for the VMs use.... it was an accidental purchase for the CCTV, that I then removed, forgot why and put in my desktop..... I removed it as it was a SMT style drive... The drive is 100% usage and is killing the performance of the VM. (I'm only running one VM) but that's enough to saturate the drive apparently. I briefly saw the VM do something whilst stuck on it's black screen. This drive isn't even a year old and apart a brief stint in the CCTV machine (2 weeks) it wasn't used.
  10. uraghhhh! I've built a VM working fine I've installed WJEC as it's being a pain again. (I like pain apparently) The VM needed a reboot (after .net 3.5) annnnd its black.. HyperV can't shut it down... I've reset the VM and it's still black... I'd disabled sleep on the host so fml? another VM dead.
  11. My new desktop has the Ryzen 5 5600G with the VEGA7 I needed some light video editing and this was a better bet than a low end discreet graphics solution. The HP Probook 440 G8 we bought recently have the intel XE graphics and they run the 4k displays at 60hz just fine.
  12. the horror! btw we used surpass this morning.. it failed. A whole class of kids staring at the client as it said loading... and didn't progress. I'm now trying to get it to work on my misbehaving VM.
  13. yes the host is windows 10 and it was the host that went to standby. I'm just using the default options, I'm surprised that it was able to bork a VM so easily.
  14. so hyper-v is in, make a new VM from the network... spend 30 minutes trying to figure out why it freezes on PXE... needed to make a new virtual switch.. nice. anyhow I've made a gen 2 VM based on my pupil image, took a while but ok it's running. Start using for a bit ok. Now come back to it an hour later and it's not running anymore? (pc was locked, and went to standby) Now the VM says I have to restore or continue?? ok continue... VM is dead invalid data in boot sausage. How is it this fragile?
  15. This happened to me I was using an old shortcut, manually install it on a workstation and copy the new looking shortcut to where ever you need it. (cyan wjec not the white orange secure client logo) The shortcut had a slightly different directory although the old one still worked but kept saying it needed an update and had to be restarted?! C:\Users\Public\Surpass\SecureClient_WJEC\SecureClientInitialRun.exe RunUpdater cache
  16. I have the Newline RS+ they have a pretty severe issue: The polling rate for the touch / pen input is HALF the refresh rate. if you can't send 4k60p image to it (which most cables and laptops can't) most likely it'll send 4k30 and the touch input is poor and the pen input is all but broken. Newline don't consider this an issue. I've had to buy HDMI EDID emulators to force 1080p/60 from the laptops so the inputs work well. But the finger/pen/palm works very well when using OneNote. (providing a 60p image for a 30hz polling rate)
  17. damn it, just spotted this... Using First Name, Last Name; it should be using Display Name.
  18. we actually had this during lockdown! Then when we came back we went straight back to old habits!
  19. if the distance is so short you could use a CAT6 / 6a or 7 cable they'll all handle 10Gig at that distance. you could even just buy a long fibre patch cable. a cat6 patch panel is quite a normal purchase these days. spf+ 10g-t cost around £50 instead of £15 for a MM 10G. fiber is way more expensive for such a short run (when considering the patch panel)
  20. you can put a quest into developer mode and install apk's but I don't know how this might help you.
  21. as @SamDavis says, I have the single cable go from the output to the docking station. The dock is USBC and does power, picture(sound), Interactive, Network. The cable can come out of a wallbox fitted with a brush plate for neatness. and of course I have all staff with a USBC displayport alt mode laptop now. (the TAs got some of those DFE dynabooks
  22. dang, I didn't know this was a thing! it looked like a separate subscription (like music unlimited) EDIT: Also claiming some other games now thanks! (can't link to my epic at work!! ARGH!)
  23. it didn't work first try but 2nd try it worked in a few seconds. got one failure: realtime.ably.mentimeter.com Ably connection failed: Connection timed out
  24. how do I get the game? (I have prime)
