Here is my effort using old style menus redirected to c:\startmenu and also running a shared network desktop (this is Windows 1703) A script copies in the correct start menu from the network for the user on login (staff, student, admin etc), takes a couple of seconds as they are all small .lnk files Works really well

TASC say it's compatible but it's NRS that have to provide the details. School dinners - InsightWiki I have a job open with NRS but as they have (apparently) 1000's of happy schools already doing this, I am hoping one of them is on here as it will be quicker....

I purchased a new cover for my hottub last week and this warning is invaluable, without it I would have killed the OH, the cat and several ants...

Twitter/Facebook Social Media Posts - how do you send them out
AJWhite1970 replied to Obee1's topic in How do you do....it?
Delete the tweet and block the user asap. As I get all the activity for every account emailed to my phone I can usually react pretty quickly to misuse, replies, likes, follows etc as I have all 50 accounts on my twitter app!!- 18 replies

I have a legit copy of the purchased v5 but I'm guessing the company has folded as the website no longer exists and I need the http functionality that was introduced in v6.5 for a little project/testing Thanks as always Andrew

Twitter/Facebook Social Media Posts - how do you send them out
AJWhite1970 replied to Obee1's topic in How do you do....it?
We have over 50 twitter accounts and about 6000 followers. I share overall management and censorship of every account with the HM, each departmental HOD is responsible for their own twitter account, the PE team have access to 12 different accounts, one for each sport and are amazing at tweeting live at all events. I have a group heading to Cambodia in the morning that have just picked up the password to our trips feed, another group heading out to Australia next week are doing the same. The HM walks round the site and often tweets stuff direct from his phone and he covers many weekend events he attends. Twitter is heavily used here and is part of every web page. I have one twitter email account and every twitter account has an smtp alias to that account so I have a one stop place where I can see all activity for every account. In 5 years I've had to censor 2 posts and block 5 users (all of which were nice Russian ladies offering services not suitable to a school!!!). The HM also manages the Linked-In account himself so he keeps connected with all the old students. I'm really lucky to have a HM that is so social media focussed for such an old school (130 years old) Feel free to PM me if you want some links to what we do Andrew- 18 replies

Mine goes through an unauthenticated proxy as it didn't play nice with my usual proxy. The a2c software has its own proxy settings in the options (well mine does anyway, not upgraded mine for years as it's not broken so not fixing it...)

Met him several times backstage at the Poole Arts Centre during panto season. Lovely person and often caused the cast to laugh during performances despite clearly not being well. Will be sadly missed. -
New Wireless System what to go for
AJWhite1970 replied to aidenbran2000's topic in Wireless Networks
We are unifi for all our wifi, has been rock solid to the point it was install and forget. Have just put a new building on 2 x Unifi 48 port POE switches and really like the interface. May do a couple more cabinets as a trial over the summer. Other plus point is the kit is silent so no more noisy cabinet Also have a Unifi NanoBridge which replaced a faulty laser link over 0.4km and that's running at just short of 400mb!! -
Much. I started looking for on-line reviews about half way through, this was my favourite "‘Dirty Dancing” is 30 years old. To celebrate, ABC has decided to stomp all over your memories of the beloved film. Its three-hour remake is poorly cast, badly choreographed and auto-tuned to an inch of its life, with a “La La Land”-inspired plot twist that is sure to make no one happy." And just found this one as well "So, should you watch ABC’s “Dirty Dancing”? Nope. Really, nope. Just — don’t. We’ve seen it, and between the bad lip-syncing, the inexplicable addition of musical numbers, and the pale imitation of classic moments from the original film, it just doesn’t work. Here are some other great shows currently available for viewing on a number of platforms: “The Handmaid’s Tale” on Hulu. “The Leftovers” on HBO. “Better Call Saul” on AMC. “American Gods” on Starz. Even on ABC, there are other great shows, “Downward Dog,” “Speechless” and “Fresh Off the Boat.” Watch one of those, if you haven’t already. Trust us: By skipping “Dirty Dancing” and watching something else, you’ll have the time of your life. “Dirty Dancing” airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. But really, you can pass."

Walkie Talkie radio agreement / etiquette
AJWhite1970 replied to manamaga2512's topic in School ICT Policies
Radios here, just Reception, Site Team, NM, Bursar, First Aider (if not reception) and HM carry one. Nothing has ever been signed for and etiquette is a common sense rule that if any students are on site then everyone (including HM!!) behaves on the radios as you never know who is stood next to who. Formality is relaxed during school holidays though when the airwaves have been known to turn a little bluer..... -
The 2017 straight to tv remake of Dirty Dancing that was on Ch5 last night. God it was awful. Almost made me want to turn back over to Belarus vs Wales....

Can't connect to Hyper-V Manager after inplace upgrade
AJWhite1970 replied to AJWhite1970's topic in Windows Server 2016
Hi. Nope, just a single NIC, nothing fancy on this box like teaming etc. -
Firstly, yeah I know inplace OS upgrades are bad, TBH I'd forgotten I'd had Hyper-V on this box until after the upgrade So, inplace upgraded Server 2012R2 to Server 2016 and everything went fine. Hyper-V was loaded but no guest hosts were powered on at the time, this is just a little used server. Post upgrade I installed KB4019472 to bring it up to date (May 2017 roll-up) and then loaded Hyper-V Manager to connect to local server I get the error message I've checked the Hyper-V role is installed which it is and the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service is running. Also checked Authorization Manager to make sure the domain administrator account was in Role Assignment Administrator which it is. So I'm stuck. Any magic way to get this up and running again? And yes, I know OS inplace upgrades are bad.... Cheers Andrew
