I've got two separate users, both of whom I would class as IT literate, both saying that since they upgraded to Sierra the RDP file we issue no longer connects Co-incidence or has something changed with the new version? The file does have a high port number "address:60822" if that makes any difference? Thanks as always Andrew

Morning all New build going in and as per building regs, the lift needs a live phone-line in it for the alarm button. Issue is, the new build is in the furthest corner of the school from the PBX and running copper to it for a dedicated phone-line is going to be tough. My question is, does it have to be a dedicated external line these days or can we somehow install a POE IP line instead through our switchboard? I did ask the architect, but he was unsure of the regs and is insisting on a dedicated line (not sure he understood the question bth). Before we go down the cabling nightmare route, I'm just making sure... Thanks Andrew

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I've been playing this morning with the Hitachi IWB software and it appears to be behaving with the two screen/projector setup. A (pretty tech aware) member of the maths team is going to trial it for me and see how it goes. Thanks Joanne, I'm keeping that one!!! Andrew

Just to clarify, all our teacher desks are front facing about 8 foot from the wall and all our teachers sit with their backs to the screens so for example having screen 1 as the projector and screen 2 on the VGA screen on their desk doesn't really work for us. Thanks for all the feedback though, I'm going for a lie down in a dark room and come back to this in the morning...

It's mainly for playing videos which a lot of our teachers do and complain it's a waste of their time sat there unable to work while it's on...

Possibly but I'm just trying to eliminate ways confidential data would hit the projector if they were wired separately. Just brain storming at the moment, the devil and the angel that sit on my shoulders and advise me in arguments might talk me out of it yet...

So... Currently designing the ICT for the 8 new classrooms soon to be open here and I've started thinking that two monitors on the teachers desk is a good idea. Screen 1: VGA from the PC, into a splitter box with one cable going to Screen 1 and the other to the projector Screen 2: DVI/HDMI from the PC (so can't possibly be displayed on the projector) The theory being that if a teacher was to play a video for example, they can carry on working/taking registers/updating facebook on screen 2 which they can't at the moment with only one screen. We would colour one screen border red (ie live on projector) and one green (ie safe to display) Any one else run two screens in the classroom or is this a really bad idea I need to park now...? Opinions welcome Andrew

For a small job like that they will be absolutely fine. Just make sure it's GB as some of the really cheap ones are only 10/100mb

We've done a USB pen and delivered by recorded post for the past two years for PE E&A/EPIP without issue. Just checked and this years A2 PE folder is currently 46Gb in size and will be finalised and sent on Monday...

It's a good skill to have but it's something you have to keep using or over time you slowly forget it. In a previous life I used to teach ICT to blind and deaf students and used to use sign for a couple of students. That was 15 years ago now (geesh!!) and while I can still finger spell and remember a few basic words (and a few swear words they taught me) I really struggle to keep up with people who sign quickly. There is also the issue I ran into of regional dialect, I had a northern student and some words are/were signed differently. The best resource I can suggest is to find someone else who can sign and practice with them, it's much easier than CBT. There is also Makaton SL which is becoming more popular with shows like "Something Special" and Mr Tumble (Justin Fletcher) doing great work in this field. Last three jobs I've done here have been OM3 custom made length pre-terminated cables. From memory a 30m 16 core cable with LC connectors was under £300

The one that ships with TASC Insight is very good and has revolutionised the scraps of paper in the bottom of the PE bag system we used to run for the last 100 years....
