Hi Yes all self installed. Not seen any issue with roaming, as long as the SSID is the same between AP's then everything roams. I can walk from one side of the site to the far side of the second site the other side of the road without issue. When I did each building I had 6 AP's with SSID AP1, AP2 -> AP6 and placed them where I thought they should go. I then used wifi analyzer on an Android device to check signal strength and visibility. I had to tweak a couple here and there, add a couple of extras to one building that appears to be a giant Faraday cage as signal is terrible even from room to room and drop down to only needing 4 in another building. Everything Unifi here, 60 AP's, 22 switches, 2 cores plus 20 x Unifi Video for CCTV and mFi's for temperature monitoring and a NanoBeam to link a site across the main road. Secondary school with 1000 students and very heavy wifi traffic, never missed a beat with performance.

Changed to Chrome as the default browser 2 years ago and use PDQ to keep it constantly updated. Just so much faster than anything else and with the GPO support easily managed. Andrew PS - in wrestling terms though Edge would have speared Kid Chrome in about 10 seconds for the win....

Are you using the default win 10 standard vga drivers? I’ve seen that misbehave more than once on projectors until you install the proper manufactures driver for the card instead

When we redid our site a couple of years ago we did it entirely in html5 and made it fully mobile aware. Took away the need to run and maintain two separate systems

Hi Yeah I've got one running the student wi-fi and they are fab. Issue is that it's on a completely separate wired network from my PC, no physical route from A to B. However, @FN-GM made me realise that I was overthinking the problem, I've got some old rubbish 10" android tablets in a cupboard, I can just use one of those... Nothing to see here, just a very tired network admin Andrew

Hi Looking for the cheapest option for a stick, chrome, Android etc that can connect to a wifi network and run Google Chrome (the browser not the OS). Can be a hdmi TV stick, cheap nasty etc. as long as it works. Need it for a management console for my student wifi that I can have turned on 24/7 on a Unifi network. Thanks as always Andrew

Here's mine. I don't do monthly updates as it slows the PC's down during the working day, I let WSUS take care of that out of hours

Ripped everything out here over the summer and went for a Unifi US-48 and a US-24POE switch in each cabinet with a 10G link back to a Unifi US-16-XG core switch. Made a big difference to performance. To answer the question, personally if I could only choose one I'd go for a 48 port with POE capability, maximize expenditure while it's there as you may get to a time when 24 ports isn't enough and there is no money available to expand

Would be cool if a GPO did this, we've been redirecting Chrome favourites et al for years with this command line set in the file associations in the registry "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-ipv6 --user-data-dir="r:\Chrome\User Data" --disk-cache-size=N --homepage "http://web.page" -- "%1" One thing though, if chrome is open on PC1, the teacher can't open Chrome on PC2 at the same time as the User Data folder is already in use, so Chrome while it supports it afaik isn't happy with multi profiles... Three months off any form of exercise after two surgeries but back on the straight and narrow eating last Monday and have done two 4k runs yesterday and today during lunch. Nearly died on each occasion but slowly getting back into the swing of it. Plan to be a lean mean machine again by Christmas Day....

Way back in the day part of my BSc was studying the efficiency of triple head disk latency in hard drives (bit like an early RAID system). Three or four drill holes at various circumferences around the spindle followed by a gentle tap from a sledge hammer does the job here. At a previous job, I once ran over a box full of mildly data sensitive disks with a chieftain tank but that caused surprisingly little damage and they were still readable but I'm reliably informed by the same people that a bucket, some petrol and some C4 does a cracking job. Don't try that at home though....

Exactly that. We have several students who have opted out, some just being stupid and ticking the box, one or two for far more serious reasons. With all of them just the one photo in SIMS is kept and all our staff with school twitter accounts have it drilled into them not to include them in any posts/pictures etc. So far not been an issue

Hi I've got a teacher/friend who has reset their personal iPad I assume from maintenance mode and now it's going back through the factory settings screen but after the connection to a wifi network it stops with the Apple Activation Lock screen. Said user doesn't know the Apple ID or have the PC itunes was run from as it was a gift from an ex boyfriend and they didn't exactly depart on speaking terms... She is the legal owner of it before you ask!! Is there a way to get round this or is it totally forked and going to have to be thrown away. There is nothing on it that she wants to keep, just wants a complete wipe and rebirth. TIA Andrew

All the infrastructure work is done, the new building is finished and the pc upgrades are finished. Not done are three projector changes, two art classrooms (builders running late) and one room change for the exams officer (plaster just setting on the walls as I type) All in all, had worse summers

Exactly what I've done, I've got a core, a 48 port non POE and a 24 port 250W POE switch that I purchased as spares sat on a shelf Incase of emergency. At the low prices I paid for the entire site to convert over from HP switches it didn't make that much difference !!
