Finished the roll-out of the new Unifi core and switches yesterday, now got all 20 devices on one management screen which is cool. Three of the shorter OM1 fibre links happily working at 10G, all the OM3 links also at 10G, just got two buildings at 1Gb due to old fibre and long runs but that's next summers project. Oh and by mistake I discovered that the HP 1Gb modules work fine in Unifi switches... Next job, swap out the old IP CCTV cameras with the box of 20 Unifi Video cameras sat next to my desk and setup a couple of m-Fi's for temperature monitoring in the freezers in the kitchens

Personally mine is pointed at "User Application Data directory" and that works 100% of the time. Like others have said, my copy of bginfo.exe and my .bgi file both reside in a folder on the C drive and updated if necessary during the user login process, appears happier to run that way than from a mapped drive or url HTH Andrew

I'm not currently, gone back to a completely flat network while I have a think about the best way forward (and before everyone faints in shock, my student/guest wifi network is on a completely separate wired network with a heavily filtered pfsense firewall sat between the only physical link between the two networks...)

Yes, have the two XG's bonded together with a 2x10Gb LAG backbone as the core.

Just installing 2 x ES-16-XG's, 10 x US-48 and 8 x US-24-250W, plus we already have 50 AP's and are switching our IP CCTV cameras to UniFi Video. Add in a couple of Nano Beams for remote links and some mFi's for temperature monitoring and I think you can say we are very happy with Unifi kit. 10G to all our cabinets and manageable POE. The only downside I can see is layer 3 switching isn't fully featured. Oh and noise compared to HP? Almost totally silent....

Thanks. Just finished stripping out just about everything fun in Windows XP on an Atom, boot time is stupidly fast and wifi works after a bit of searching. Now to play with that link....

I've got 30 old Atom netbooks sat in a cupboard after being retired over the summer. However they are too nice to throw away so I was wondering about potentially turning them into a poor mans thin client by booting into an OS of some flavour and then only being able to connect to our TS farm. Might be an awful idea in practice but any thoughts as to what to try on them? Windows XP cut right down with wifi and a custom shell sprang to mind.... They have 1gb RAM and SSD's Ideas welcome or just point and laugh at me... Andrew

We've added replace all IP CCTV cameras with UniFi Video to our list. I've yet to tell the site team though, it can come as a surprise when the cameras arrive on Wednesday and I'm not there....

I've certainly seen bginfo not play nice if the folder doesn't exist or if it's trying to write the bmp file to a place it only has RO rights. Does it work if you put it right at the end of the login process?

Does your bginfo defined temp folder exist the first time bginfo runs?

The other thing I've found over the years is to run the Starboard software the first time by right clicking and "run as administrator". This is also a useful trick to run the pen alignment tool successfully. I've got a range of boards and have never even considered a firmware flash so wouldn't know where to look or even if it's possible. You can download 9.71 from here but you need to enter the serial number of any of your boards to get access to the .exe Downloads – Starboard Solution BTW - if you can get a saved 8.11 file over to me I can test it on 9.71 for you, or just drive up the A338 with it HTH Andrew

First question is are you running v9.71 as this fixes many issues with the software? I have it running on over 80 boards and it's fixed a few random connectivity issues

Not genuine no but we've used them and the newer lightening cables for years without any issues
