Assuming your Active Director domain is "Domain.Internal", the search string would be DC=Domain,DC=internal. From there the rest is broken down buy the OU location your users are currently in.. so if it's in Users\Students\Intake2014 it would look like below $users = Get-ADUser -Filter * -SearchBase "OU=Intake2014,OU=Students,OU=Users,DC=Domain,DC=internal" Powershell ForEach loops are quite easy Foreach ($student in $users} { #Do some stuff and the variable $student will have just that line, so $student.HomeDirectory will give you the value of that user }

A few years back, we posted our powershell script for creating users, which also contained settings for resetting user permissions on their home drive folders (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/217258-automating-student-account-creation-script.html) You can use a command like $users = Get-ADUser -Filter * -SearchBase "OU=Finance,OU=UserAccounts,DC=FABRIKAM,DC=COM" to get a list of users in an array that you can then loop through, and update the permissions based on the value of the home directory

We install Office 365 on everything other than our RDP server which has our only installed Office 2019 instance (and thats just because it's easier to use the MAK code since the server accounts don't have a 365 account). The 365 installation updates with the new features a lot more regularly than the 2019 version, which works well for us as it keeps it the same as the web experience.

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)

If you contact theregister and ask for Simon, he might know of a good spot, and supplier of rolls of carpet.. oh you weren't meaning you wanted to bury other people who don't choose to be sensible... -
Because outlook.com, hotmail.com etc are often used by people as throwaway accounts for spam mail since they are easy to setup.

it's just advice as of Thursday, so perfect if you work with people you don't like I guess. -
Teams crashes when using redirected %appdata%
Boredguy replied to drkmccy's topic in Office Software
We've yet to have this issue on our network. While we still define the profile location as a network UNC path, the vast majority of the roaming profile folder itself is set to not upload from the workstation to the path (and AppData itself is not configured as redirected in the GPO setting) We do delete all user profiles at logoff to clean up the drive, which is the only reason for using a defined profile location in AD, otherwise it's a case of waiting for x days to pass and as some workstations can have 7 or more users on it per day that would quickly use up space on our 120Gb Drives. User logons aren't that bad (sub 30 seconds) so it's not too bad -
Setting Acceptable User Policy - using 3rd party software

You could just reset the AUP setting in Impero so it prompts students at any point. We often reset it in the summer holidays so everyone gets it again at the start of the school year. -
Interactive Whiteboards - are people still buying them?
Boredguy replied to kennysarmy's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Any new requirement we've moved to putting in the touch screens instead of boards & projectors since it reduces the issues of staff getting the light from projector in their eyes, image wobble when class above moves etc. Also the price for a reasonable size screen is sometimes cheaper than the old board/projector setup (not to mention easier cable runs since just needs 1 mains socket instead of 2 etc) -
It's not unheard of, same can happen if you disassociate a Kindle Fire Stick without also doing the Factory Reset option. Next person can access any services you had signed in with. I'd still check the About button to see how it thinks it's licenced. From the Account Screen, you can also select to log out/Forget the blueyonder account.
-
Yes it looks like that BH at Blueyonder is the account it might have been registered to... so someone didn't do a full wipe and reinstall before you got it.
-
In one of the Office Applications, if you go to File -> Account it should say the user it's signed in as. If you click on the About button, it should say what type of licence activation has been used as well. For me here at work it's Shared Computer Activation

Copy from appointment from Share mailbox to user mail box.
Boredguy replied to nicholab's topic in How do you do....it?
As suggested above, you can either view both calendars at the same time, or copy and paste from the shared calendar into your own. We use a shared calendar that staff can view, so things like school holidays, exams, and other events can be seen in conjunction with a users own calendar (saves scheduling a meeting in half term when the other person won't be in) However any actual "meetings" are only ever sent to the staff's own account, be it a Teams meeting or just normal meeting to say "go to office X" type thing -
Mike, you never have a problem, it's just story material. Anyway, if you have an Outlook/MSN/Hotmail account you get the "Free" browser version of Word/Excel etc but thats about it, which depending what your wanting to use it for might be suitable (similar to Google giving you docs/sheets with your free account) Think you need to have a proper licence for Office to activate these days for the client installation.. certainly nags me at home if it switches to my Outlook account instead of the works one.
-
We're looking at going down the Teams route and from what I've read up, and you can have "common area phones" as they are just assigned as a device in Teams and seem to effectively be a user account that you licence. You can then pick that "user" same as calling anyone else. As for the outgoing call number, that can be configured in the Caller ID properties (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/caller-id-policies)

Our users who have standard A1 Plus licences have been able to release messages from Quarantine without our intervention (and we don't have a Defender licence) In the daily notification e-mail should be the link to https://security.microsoft.com/quarantine where they should just see their messages to release/delete

Fever..

Might be a silly question, but is your ZoneDirector already running it's maximum licenced Access Points? If your controller is only licenced for 25 Access Points, and you want to add a 26th, that might be why it can not see it (I've not tried to add more than my licence allows)

Barracuda Cloud 2 Cloud - UK Education Suppliers?
Boredguy replied to enbiggen's topic in Cloud Services
Yep they are revamping the site, and the number on the site matches the one on the e-mail from my account manager that she sent while chatting on the phone about it earlier. -

I've had details from IDNS earlier about it, and it's based on your FTE count
