  1. We use a single Exam account, but our Exam Laptops are configured to ensure all student users get the same "Exam Lockdown" settings regardless if they use the Exam account or their own network account, so the Exam WritePad file gets saved to a specific folder on the laptop regardless (and users can't see their own files or internet access) and it seems to have worked well over the last 12 months.
  2. Well like all authentication methods, got to have some pain the first time, but once the code is provided we shouldn't need to re-enter it until the contract ends, and at which point if they haven't updated SIMS to a proper web application like the other MIS platforms, there is a method to add in a new key as it will exist as it's added to the Spring 2022 update.
  3. It will nag at any workstation by the way it reads until someone has entered the code once, then it's fine for everyone. We are planning on updating SIMS next week during our half term holiday to stop any of the staff getting the message since there should only be myself in using SIMS and I have the code. Users can still login without knowing the code, just in a read only mode and features such as census are disabled (since you in theory don't have a support contract as you've moved system so wouldn't need write access)
  4. We got the download this morning, and had a copy of the user guide sent through from another school. Basically after installing the new version of SIMS, users will get prompted to enter the Eligibility Key... If they don't know it features are disabled, so best if the first person to login after the update has the key handy (only needs entering the once to stop the nag for everyone) Guess I know what I'm doing one day next week.
  5. Simple solution is to prevent students from creating groups as the link in an earlier post outlines. Out of the 5 tenancies in our MAT, only 1 allows staff to create teams or groups, all the rest are restricted to the IT Support team to prevent loads of 2 user "groups" setup as staff play with things
  6. Air Con???? Never had it in my server room so don't have to factor that in
  7. the OP stated they are an a independent/private school so not allowing BYOD might not be an option the same as it would be some of us
  8. We get a "free" ADSL backup via our provider, but we're still paying for the BT Landline it's plugged in to, but that phone (and a couple other ones) are also part of the emergency contingency plans in-case the PBX fails.
  9. We have keyed alike 25mm padlocks that we put into the catch on the back of our PC cases, and put the Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor cable through to reduce the number that go walk abouts. Doesn't stop the damage they do, but at least if they want to nick the mouse they either have to cut the cable and make it useless, or try taking the whole PC which a teacher might notice.
  10. Just would have to remember to update restrictions for holidays etc using this method, but depends if the BYOD devices can be added to it since it's not the schools property so you can't force users to install the MDM
  11. We warned them several times.. and after we had our new retention rules in place for over a year there was still some staff that went "I can't find an email from 14 months ago with details for X that I need".. Not sure which part of "only kept for 12 months" they had forgotten about considering every e-mail says when it will expire
  12. Yep cause I can find them in the old one without them disappearing
  13. Na, I had to get a Mike Typo in there somewhere for the fun
  14. To create a new Tenancy I followed the steps in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/education/deploy/create-your-office-365-tenant earlier this week. As the domain I want to use is already linked to a 365 Tenancy, I've had to make a subdomain one for now, and I'll migrate the actual domain name over at a later point. It can take at least 5 days for MS to check your eligible for Educational Discount so you get 31 day trial with 25 x A1 for Faculty/Students accounts to begin with. Once thats all done, on the VLC page it asks me to ensure I'm logging in as an Admin user for the Tenancy I want to link our licences with.
  15. Like Garacesh, we don't install any school software on any device that is not the property of the Trust (which also includes any kit the LA provides our SEN students via their statements, never mind anything for the LAC students). In face your licence precludes it. Now if the LEA are insistent the school purchase it, I would be very tempted to treat it as a full school device just in a 1:1 situation and add it fully to the domain and have the same security/VPN configuration as all our other laptops, and if they are to keep it when moving to another school/LEA, then they need to return it to us on the last day for it to be reinstalled with stock Windows (hopefully it's not a 10S device) with the version of OS it came with. Think the big grey issue is the directive from your LEA. They get the funding for the LAC, they should purchase the unit to give to them
  16. Yep that is setup correctly. Everyone that has the "Default MRM Policy" applied will duely pick it up.
  17. Just don't confuse Dorest and Devon
  18. Yes by default on a spanking new tenancy, very little retention is applied to the users mail boxes. Junk and Deleted are the only things. If you select to create a tag "applied automatically to a default folder" you can then pick from the drop down in the next page which folder exactly that is, if you want to allow it to be recovered from the "Deleted Items" or gone completely, and of course, how old the e-mail has to be before the rule takes effect. Policies can need to wait til overnight for them to take effect after a change Then just add that tag to your policy and sorted
  19. Ah those were the days
  20. The "Personal" type tags, are ones where the user can choose to assign to a folder, it's not enforced, so there are different options so users can select to have stuff go after 7 days, 30 days 365 days etc. "Default" will apply to all folders in the mailbox, and the one one configured would be to move 730 day old messages into the "Archive" folder. Specific named folders, like "Junk EMail" and "Deleted Items" only apply to those specific folders and none other. These last 2 types are enforced and users can't adjust it
  21. Someone likely removed the tags previously from it, as they have added 2 additional policies
  22. This is taken from the brand new Tenancy I setup yesterday. By default your users should have the "Default MRM Policy" Applied, and here are the tags and their settings
  23. They were found in the "Classic" Exchange Admin Centre under the Retention Tags and the Retention Policies. You set up the Retention Tag with the name you want, Type as "Deleted Items" and the Retention period you want (we have 30 days) Then in Retention Policies you can edit your "Default MRM Policy" if you want everyone to have the setting, and add in the new Tag you just created/edited. If you only want it to apply to specific users, you create a new Retention Policy, assign the Tags you want, then you find the user in either old or new Exchange Admin Centre and update their Mail Retention Policy to the suitable one.
  24. Is it the same if you turn off CCRDS2. If so might be a load balance issue. Depending on how your licences are, could always look at reinstalling them to 2019, but that might not be a viable option for you.. wasn't for us until recently
  25. Which version of Windows Server are you running on them currently out of interest in-case it was something in an update if it only started occurring recently?
