  1. Personally, never seen the need to have Windows LTSB installed after 1803 build came out, and when using tools such as MDT/SCCM to deploy out your OS any tweaks needed early on to remove the unwanted apps was fairly painless since so many others shared their knowledge here and on other sites. Certainly we've found that the LTSB install at a site we took over last spring was the cause of many of the reported issues from staff, not least because it wouldn't allow Edge to install so the browser of choice was the out-dated Internet Explorer! For most normal users, having the Standard build is more in keeping with their home computer (unless your a site lucky enough to have a 1:1 device for staff) so interface and functionality is still similar between work and home. Switching it over to standard W10 22H build in the summer has majorly improved the situation there (and brought it in line with the rest of our schools) For any site that went for Cyber Essentials certification, I wonder if using LTSB would have been a negative point since security updates might fall outside of the frequency it requires. At the end of the day the OP was a question as for why people are still using it, not to say "your doing it wrong, change". Each school is different.
  2. We've had this a couple of times on one of our staff's personal laptops, but never had it occur on one of the school devices, so have always put it down to another application that might be running in the background.
  3. Are you using software restrictions to block EXE's from running from the users Temp folder? We added an allow rule for the following path to allow users to switch to new Outlook %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp\NewOutlookInstall\NewOutlookInstaller.exe
  4. Yes, but you don't have to log off. If your Web filtering doesn't have the password change delay like RM Safetynet (such as using Smoothwall), then you should be able to get them to logon, go through some other introduction for a couple of minutes, then just get them to enter their e-mail address into the OneDrive dialog and it will complete the setup. Which will also get them use to what might happen in the future when their password is changed.
  5. It depends on what your AD Connect Sync is set to, but our passwords normally sync within a couple of minutes with 365. It's waiting for RM Safetynet to know about a password change which can take upto 10 minutes thats more annoying (or with the current issues they have 24 hours!). Typically staff know that any user logging in after a changed password will have slight disruption for the first few minutes and we've been using OneDrive for Students for last 3 years now.
  6. Reactions in 365 mail have been around for quite a while now, and a large number of our staff actively use it to show they have at least read the e-mail and is quicker in cases than sending a "Thank you" one back. I'm actually waiting for the chaos that will ensue once the "New Look" Outlook becomes standard and switches over to pure OWA look as some staff don't like the browser and can only deal with the old legacy layout of Outlook desktop
  7. We've had the same issue with our new printer fleet this half term, as most of our devices are Kyocera, but we have a Ricoh for our high volume Reprographics. I've had to setup 2 different Print Release queues, so that the majority of the users can use the Kyocera kit, but only specific stations get the Ricoh queue. Without doing this and selecting a universal driver we got nothing by hundreds of pages of gibbering when PDF's were printed and very limited options. So now our Follow Me queue is set as the Driver for our highest spec'd Kyocera Copier and everything is fine. There is nothing stopping Papercut from having different brands in the same instance, you just can't have them in the same virtual print queue due to Drivers. As long as your Papercut licence has the correct number of MF licences for your devices, they can be added easily enough.
  8. We use registry settings in our users GPO to do the silent login for OneDrive Policy settings (including the registry settings) are in zip in this thread here -> http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/216456-microsoft-onedrive-365-a.html
  9. You actually don't have to have the 2 Powershell and Batch files. You can call CommandReporter directly from a Powershell script as in my example earlier. We run all our SIMS Scheduled Tasks on the server with a specific account instead of running it on staff workstations. Might make it little harder to get the file into OneDrive, but could have it e-mailed to you and have the PowerAutomate save the file into your OneDrive that way and complete the processing from there.
  10. 200 only takes about 20 minutes. If your SIMS has the same slow bug when saving records, have 2 workstations open at once, start 1 at the top of the list, start the other at the bottom, and as 1 is saving, make the change to another student on the other, and switch back and forth.
  11. I've yet to find a way to bulk remove e-mail addresses, so I've had to go through a few thousand records over our MAT deleting old ones. Easy enough to reimport via the built in CSV import routine now without a third party app
  12. Very strange, I've been able to setup 2 new tenancies and currently have them registered with a subdomain of our existing ones and was able to get A1 licences added without problems straight from the portal once I'd validated with the TXT file. That is an option you try, that way your only downtime would be switching the DNS and actual domain name at the time, but during migrations it's best to use the onmicrosoft addresses anyway.
  13. I normally generate a "Default" paramdef xml file via the CommandReporter for the required report. I edit it to replace the date to be XXXX-XX-XX and save it. Finally I have a PowerShell scheduled task that reads the default xml, replaces the XXXX-XX-XX with the current date and saves the file as another copy which the script then subsequently calls. eg my powershell code looks like.... $curDate = Get-Date -Format "yyyy-MM-dd" ((get-content -path C:\Scripts\MSTeamsClassExport_default.xml -Raw) -replace 'XXXX-XX-XX',$curDate) | Set-Content -Path C:\Scripts\MSTeamsClassExport.xml $CommandReporter = "C:\progra~2\SIMS\SIMS~1.net\commandReporter.exe" &$CommandReporter /USER:YourUserHere /PASSWORD:YourPasswordHere /OUTPUT:C:\Scripts\Output.csv /REPORT:'MS Teams Class Export' /QUIET /PARAMFILE:C:\Scripts\MSTeamsClassExport.xml
  14. It depends if your RDP User Cals included Software Assurance to enable them to work on newer server versions. If your User Cals were purely for Windows Server 2008 (such as purchased on a Select scheme and not OVS-EES), then you can not use them on a Windows 2022 Server and you will need to purchase new ones. If they have Software Assurance because they are part of your OVS-EES agreement, then if the licence broker service is installed onto another physical server you need to do nothing. If the broker was on the old 2008 box, then you need to add the licences on the newer server by entering your product key and values.
  15. We have 1 Year retention for virtually all staff. Incumbent staff in Finance/Pastoral/PA were granted 3 years, with the 3rd year being an Online Archive in our 365 Tenancy, but when those staff are replaced the new starters only get 1 year. Was a bit of shock to staff when it first happened as some had 14 years worth of mail with passwords to sites etc, but they quickly got over the issue.
  16. When I setup our new Trust Tenancy, I went via this page https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/education/deploy/create-your-office-365-tenant
  17. Well you could try Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -identity [email protected] -MailSendUndoInterval 10 However that only works for using on OWA, not Outlook client
  18. In Teams, right click on the channel and select "Manage Channel" You can then see the option to turn Moderation on or off from the drop down if you are an Owner. With the recent updates, the moderation setting should also allow you to restrict members from replying as well.
  19. If you select to view the Team in the SharePoint view, you can change the permissions on the folders in other channels. You can turn on moderation for channels to limit it to who can create posts, reply etc as long as your the owner.
  20. Surely that would be an issue with GDPR, and the whole point of the GAL is it's only available on your tenancy.
  21. Correct, being in the Visitors group, just says you can't save there, same as if you had a read only folder on a network drive. You can't remove it as it's part of Office. If you are not signed in to the office application, such as using 2019 or old versions, it wouldn't show any live connections, but with office 365 as the licence is for the user it automatically shows them their OneDrive and associated SharePoint sites, as users can open files via that interface if they are following that site.
  22. It will only allow users to save to the SharePoint Site's they have access to, and if they are in the "Members" or "Owners" group. We generally have Student's AD group listed as a "Visitor" in the SharePoint site which only grants them read only rights. If you are using Teams, students will also see those sites in the same place.
  23. That might not work for SIMS though unless you were planning on attempting to view the raw data only (and want to put the time into trying to work out the relationships between all the tables to understand that data), as the client expects to be talking to a MS SQL server, plus even at £7 a month thats still going to add up over time for something you might not actually need to access. Having a VM thats shut down and only turned on when needed is still likely to be a more logical and time efficient option.
  24. It depends on the MIS you migrate to. For example, on Bromcom's Migration Scope for a SIMS migration, it says "A standard migration includes five academic years’ worth of data. This is usually the current academic year, plus four previous years" but you can pay for additional years. It might be more cost effective to switch the SIMS server to be a non domain server and have it completely offline and just turn it on to access any information requests for 6+ years ago than transfer 10-15 additional years of data over. It entirely depends on what limitations on the migration the supplier your moving to has and what the school wishes to move over.
  25. It's Microsoft that actually recommend SQL data files are on their own drive, but it's not the end of the world. There might be a speed hit but to be honest with the bloated nature of the current version of SIMS it's going to be hard to notice (our DB is nearly 20Gb for example!) Splitting the OS and the SIMS DB/Docstorate/SIMSData onto it's on Virtual Drive makes it easier if you need to increase drive space, or move drives around in the future
