Have you got the relevant Java packages installed? Not sure if it requires the Java development kit. I see that somebody suggested Java on the RM Communities site also..

We've used Movie Maker (Original), Movie Maker (Windows Live) and Photostory 3 on an RM network. The original Movie Maker is included with XP so there was no problems there. RM provide a package for Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 that you run on the server and it dumps the client packages in the relevant places so you can allocate out to workstations. RM also provide details for creating a package for Photostory 3 using a blueprint. It works fine on XP clients, I've not tried on Windows 7 yet.

But be careful about carrying it when you're not at work. Knives with locking blades are classed as offensive weapons.

I've done very similar to what Synack suggested. Windows Media Encoder 9 (on an XP computer) streaming audio and video from a Sony Handycam connected via firewire.

As others have said, to save all the hassle, we have only told staff about the Home Use Programme as £9 is still a great price for Office and it doesn't involve us messing around distributing media and giving support.

Can you not set your Smartcache up to use AD authentication and then get rid of the Smartcache client? That's how we have ours set up and we've not had any problems when we've deployed the JDK to machines.

For teachers there is the Work at Home rights and Home Use Programme, Work at Home rights lets the teachers install Office on their home computer but you need to provide them with the install media and your volume license key, and you're responsible for them removing it at the end of their employment. The HUP lets teachers buy a copy of Office for ~£9 and the agreement is between the staff and Microsoft so you don't need to worry about giving them support for it or how they use it..

We are running SIMS and Securus on our CC4 network with XP and 7 clients without any problems. Like others have said RM provide the SIMS client packages that you can download and import to the console. With Securus we just imported the client package that was in use on our CC3 network before.

I thought you got access to the MSDN AA, but I'm unable to set it up? I rang the Microsoft volume licensing people and the MSDN AA people and apparently it's an additional cost that we obviously didn't subscribe to?

Just check that they have an EES agreement that includes a Microsoft CAL suite. Our agreement only covers Windows and Office, no CALS.

I think that during the CC4 build process there is an option to select so that the RM restore bit isn't installed. Also, to save rebuilding them each time which takes a few hours, can you not take a restore image? You can restore a PC to a restore image in about 10 minutes (depending on the size of the image).

Have you made sure that you DHCP and DNS is disabled on the Netgear router?

Have you checked that EM64T extensions are enabled in the BIOS?

Some applications only work on some phones, so maybe they're hidden? On a Desire you can download Firefox from the Android market, but on my San Francisco it doesn't appear in the market because it's not compatible.

It's meant to load faster, something to do with the way that pages are loaded now and only parts of the page refresh when you update something rather than reloading the whole page. They've also added a nice pink theme!

I got an email from them also.. There was a few testemonies on their website from other schools so I gave a couple of the schools a ring (although quite a few of the names mentioned had left the schools!).. The only person I managed to speak to said that they had a good experience with them. I was going to use them but another recycling firm offered me more for our old laptops.

You're probably best looking into RM terminal servers. I believe the RM terminal server license is ~£495 (including a Server 2008 R2 license). Unfortunately RM only support 2003 terminal servers at the minute. It's basically just a server that has been 'smart cliented' to be setup like a workstation. I guess you could go for a vanilla Windows terminal server but you would lose out on being able to manage it like RM workstations.

Users can make their N: drive (or just certain folders) available offline. Once this is set up their laptops will synchronise when they log on/off the network.

Bump, both servers are still available. I'm open to reasonable offers on them, it'd be a shame to scrap them.
