Thanks for your reply sonofsanta. The only problem with that is, everytime a staff member creates a new folder in the share, i'll have to hunt it down and add tick inherit from parent. Its impractical and there must be a way to automate the process? I don’t mind manually doing it for the ones that have currently been created and not picking up the security settings but for every future created folder, I want it to pick up the right groups. Yeh davit2005. From the top level of the shared folder, permissions are set for this folder, sub-folder and files in advanced.

As i've put the permissions on the share itself would ticking "include inheritable permissions from this objects parent" do anything? Or do you mean ticking this option on the newly created folders? I haven't taken permission no, i'll try doing that and see what happens. Thanks Alan

I have a shared folder for resources that is accessible to everyone. the permissions are set so staff can read/write/modify all files and folders in this share and students can only read the problem is, when new folders are created, the security groups are not being inherited from the parent folder. i have tried ticking "replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" on the selected security groups and it enforces on all current child files/folders but not on any new ones Its driving me crazy! any ideas?

Hello, we've been donated a set of wireless access points and a U4EA Fusion Wireless Lan controller from a local school to use in our school. The problem is the old school do not know the ip address of the lan controller and finding it out is proving difficult. they thought it was 10.81.34.3 but when i connect it to a small network (just for testing purposes) using an old switch and a laptop, i configured the laptops network card to be on the same ip range as the lan controller, im still unable to remote in or ping it. I've tried using an ip scanner to scan the range around the supposed ip address with no luck also. I've also tried the above things but with the devices default ip address set by the manufacturer (169.254.100.100) to no avail. My next attempt to find the ip address was by remoting into the switch (an old 3com 4200g i think) and finding the ip address using the arp table but time got the better of me as i've never tried it before and i didnt manage to get the dead done Would the arp table be able to tell me its ip address in this situation? Am i on the right lines? Is there an easier way to do? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I would of contacted the manufacturer for a way to set it to default or a way to find its configured ip address but it seems that you have to pay for support or be granted it by the reseller.

hello there, we've recently started using fronter calendar as an electronic form of our school dairy by adding appointments to a shared staff room but, we have a few quirks that would make it easier for users to use. the problem is, they are probably not possible but i thought i'd ask anyway.. is there a way to hide who posted the appointment? for example, if i add "Headteacher to meet with parents" to the calendar, it will show that i added it which is quite confusing when looking at the appointment for some. secondly, is there a way to change the default calendar to post to for a user? the problem is, some staff try and add something to the staff's room on fronter but add it to their own personal calendar as its the default. i'm skeptical anything can be done about these issues but its worth a try! thanks in advance!

I've learnt that its not worth the trouble too now. Not even being able to pinpoint when an emial has been sent to an exact date and time is ridiculous and plain stupid really. Thanks anyway

Currently, students are allowed to use fronter's visual mail to send internal messages to one another. an incident has occured and i am able to view the emails of those involved but the date of when emials are sent is important too. the problem is that sent and received emails are only showing terms such as "sent: today/yesterday/old" etc. is there a way to see the date and time emails have been sent as an admin or the user themselves? Thank you in advance

i give up on the pinning things to the start menu idea. it wasn't really worth looking into in great detail. i don't seem to have the tim anyway! but thanks for your replies. in regards to the offline use, it's all up and working to a degree. staff can use their laptops at home, but it worries me that they have to manually cut and paste work they have done at home into their network area. some users can't seem to get their head round it. any ideas if i could sync the offliine local folder when they reconnect to the network?

hopefully this is the right section of the forum! i've been asked to change printer settings of our main colour copier so that all documents that are to be printed go to a designated mailbox first rather then printing immediately. i'm assuming its a way for the office staff to monitor how much staff and students are printing in order to cut costs. anyway, i'm using rm cc4 and changing this setting is revelant to the owner's network account rather then an actual workstation. i.e. user mr teacher's account links to their mailbox whichever workstation they log onto. so does anyone have any ideas that will help me with the following: as it is a user setting account that these printer setting changes are attached too, everytime i reset a profile, i would have to do it again! (I reset profiles quite regularly) is there a way to lock the printing perferences page after i've changed this setting? (currently anyone can change it back) is there a quicker way of doing this rather then having to log everyone on one at a time and changing it? if anyone else sees other flaws in this, do bring them up before its too late

i've recently got a new job managing a cc4 network, my first ICT technician job. i'm quite fussy when it comes to its management and theres a few things i want to be able to do and can't figure out! i've used the user policies along with computer policies to set things up as i would like more of less. i was wondering how you can define what programs are pinned to the start menu for all users. i currently have internet explorer and email but would like to remove and add to these. secondly, is there a way to default my documents shortcut to c:/documents and settings/username/my documents when a network connection isn't present? this is mainly for staff who want to take laptops home. leading on from that, is it possible to sync the changed contents in this folder (local my documents) to their network drive? thanks in advance!
