Just seen this on the 365 website. Are they taking the P***. So they tested all the 365 apps (docs, calendar) against gmail. Hmmm that's fair.

Think Grumbldook is on the right lines which is one reason I needed to set up 365 without it taking over our domain / email. I would like to pick the best parts from both and merge the two together.

do not forget it is completely web based so you direct all users to the school website that you have designed with big fat pictures of the different apps. Nobody has to know what the address really is and you have a nice central point with all your apps layed out how you need it.

no you do not. you can request a file from google that you upload to your web space this proves you have access to your .sch.uk domain and they can enable the full edu apps from this. No messing with DNS. You access all your apps using google.com/a/schoolname.sch.uk but it is easy to get round this. When you log in email is disabled but you have the choice to update your DNS and MX which will in turn enable email or leave your old email system as is.

I have Google apps at some of my primary schools and it looks like the ones that had wanted to go down the office 365 direction will not be able to as they are expected to alter the DNS and MX records.

We are a small primary and do not have sub domain. The reason I ask is Google apps gives you the choice of being set up on a domain but does not enable or require key services to be pushed over for it to work. After setting up Gapps you have the choice to move you mail (MX) and dns settings or leave them as they are. Is it not possible to do the same with office 365? EDIT: Also do not want to start adding other domains in to the mix. If they were a larger primary I would consider it but I only help out as and when needed.

Following the instruction at the start of this thread it goes over automatic approvals. Do the automatic approvals just apply to all computers including any in the unsigned computers folder? or only computers that have been moved out of this folder?

Can this be set up under our main domain (.sch.uk) without it causing issues for our other services running under that domain such as email and website. Basically I do not want to change our email or website to MS but would like to use some of the office apps. Hope that makes sense.

I would pay more for it. It not only does more but is not a locked in product. I would think they will be pricing along the lines of ultrabooks which start at £800 and go up to £1800.

All your computers talk to each other and the internet using the LAN, so you would still need this. Sims is a server client software, so you would still need a server. Discover is just another way of viewing the Sims data held on you server which runs on your LAN.

I had a similar issue at a school. It was a pain to track down but turned out to be a faulty install of adobe reader on a couple of computers. When they printed from Adobe it crashed the spooler.

I currently have Google Apps installed at all my schools but they are primary schools. Sites has come in very handy and has replaced our school website / vle, and being able to add notes that work like a forum to documents for change control tracking has been a god send when working with the governors.

What version of SQL are you running. Are you backing up the SQL databases? Normally you need to backup the SQL databases prior to backing up the standard Sims windows folders

Sorry yes two different issues. 1. School does not have folder redirection but does have network home drives that all users save too. I want to enable folder redirection but have also noticed some staff accentually save to the c:/docs folder and might also save photos to this folder, so I do not want these getting wiped out when folder redirection is enabled. 2. At the schools that do have folder redirection some of the older curriculum software will not install as it complains about the users 'my docs' being on the H: drive.
