Recently changed the server and all printers from HP to Dell, but still have the same issue.

ok I will give that a go in the morning.

just ran dcdiag again and all passed. not sure why that was but time healed it on this occasion.

just moved all roles to a new server and ran dcdiag on new server, which gives this error: Time Provider NtpClient: This machine is configured to use the domai n hierarchy to determine its time source, but it is the AD PDC emulator for the domain at the root of the forest, so there is no machine above it in the domain hierarchy to use as a time source. It is recommended that you either configure a reliable time service in the root domain, or manually configure the AD PDC to s ynchronize with an external time source. Otherwise, this machine will function a s the authoritative time source in the domain hierarchy. If an external time sou rce is not configured or used for this computer, you may choose to disable the N tpClient. Odd that I have installed many 2008r2 servers and none gave this error. Any help with a fix. Cheers

thanks for the info. Agree its not a good fix but I am only at the school once a week and have been remotely fixing the spooler 3 or more times each day.

Will adding the printer role have any knock on issues with GPP (Policy printing) that we use?

LA controlled virus software and they do not like to make changes to the scanning. No joy, could not find isolation mode.

Hi, On of my schools is having major issues with print jobs getting stuck in the spool folder, see this post for info: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/98241-printers-causing-me-no-end-problems.html for the moment I need to find a way to let the staff fix the issue as it happens and think some kind of script would be best, although open to suggestions. I need to create a script that allows a user to stop the spools service running on the server, delete all files in the spool folder and then restart the spool service. I have no idea how I would create this, so thanks for any help.

Hi, Both servers have 2008R2, I have just managed to get hold of a second server for a primary school that I wanted to use to replicate AD, DNS GPO settings just in case the one and only server goes down. I understand (from other posts) that BDC are a server 2000 thing and that from 2003 all server are treated equally, except you can have a RODC which is a bit like a BDC. Given my situation of 1 main server doing everything and one second hand server that probably only has 2 years left would you advice I set up the older server as a standard DC or a RODC and why? Hi, We have always had issues with jobs getting stuck while spooling on the server. Recently we got a new server and all the printers changed from HP to DELL. I thought this would fix the problem but at least 3 times a day I am having to stop the spooler service, delete all jobs from the spool drive and start the spool service. This seems to be completely random and not a particular computer / software issue. A computer that has been printing all day can all of a sudden be the one that has caused the above issue. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Also, I was thinking it might be a good idea to move the spooler (for testing) away from the server and have all jobs spooled at the client machines. Is this possible. Our setup 2008r2 server DELL 1355cn printers GP printer deployment. Thanks.

So if the 2008r2 server goes pop the 2003 bdc will be fine taking over the pdc roles.

Is it ok to use a 2003 server as a BDC for a 2008R2 server? I am assuming it is better than nothing but does the 2003 server backup everything that a 2008r2 BDC can?

I look after a number of primaries. Typically they have 1 server. The largest school has 500 pupils. The single server runs AD, DHCP, Sims, FMS, printers, VPN, WSUS etc. So based on you pupil numbers that would be 2 servers. if you needed redundancy why not chuck in a BDC. That is 3 servers. Just pointing out what you can do if you have no money.

The next Gen consoles are going to be download only so I hope this judgement stays, although I doubt it will. Always thought it was a bit of a P** take that you can not pass on your old downloaded software like I can for anything else. If I have paid for something it should be mine to do with as I please.

Will do but thought that Target = redirect to the following location root path = \\server\share$\%username% was the method used in my situation.

Done this but when I gpupdate /force it comes back with an error about the gp not being successful. Just a thought but currently the home drive is mapped using a gpo and not in the user AD settings which I would imagine the above method needs.

%homedrive% does stay in the GP setting but even though the policy is applying to the test pc it does not redirect the folder. hohum

Thought it about time I play with redirecting the 'my docs' folder to all users home folders, but the root path setting in the policy does not stay how I have entered it. when I type \\server\share$\%username% and click ok it takes me back out to the policy editor window, but if I go back in to the policy the %username% has been removed. Info: 2008 r2 server GP settings = basic Target = redirect to the following location root path = \\server\share$\%username% Drive layout = d:\home\staff\username Shares = staff and username any advice?
