Ok changed settings in config file and all ok. Another issue, Q1. I do not have anything set under 'active directory user list' but I can still log in as a teacher. Should that be the case. Q2. Why does it ask for a Students Group: on the active directory page and not ask for teachers. What is this for.

Thanks, that gave me back the tile. Problem is I can not edit the mapped drives. If I change the mapping and click save it has not saved. What file holds the mappings?

I seem to have deleted the mapped drive tile. I was actually removing the me / password tile so not sure how the mapped drive tile vanished. In the HAP config / home page section what do I need to type to get the mapped drive tile back. Cheers.

I look after 6 vanilla schools. Many years back one school had CC server, in my opinion it made more work for me than vanilla so I pulled it out.

Currently using Team Viewer. It is a one of payment and you can connect to as many servers / clients as needed (no limit). They offer apps for all the major phones / pads. They also offer with the package an add hoc remote system so even if the client does not have the software installed you can still connect.

Hi, After a few attempts I have HAP V8 installed on a member server, YAY. I followed a post to create a self signed cert How to Set Up SSL on IIS 7 : The Official Microsoft IIS Site, then followed the HAP video. Now that I have HAP up and running I need to make it externally available for 2 or 3 teachers (small primary). Q1. I assume port 443 needs to be forwarded. Is that correct? Q2. Do any other ports need to be forwarded? Q3. Am I ok to use the self cert for external connections? Q4. Any lock down or security settings I need to be aware of from a 2008r2 IIS perspective? Thanks

Thanks for the help so far. Q4. When installing the IIS role do I need to check or remove any services during the IIS install for HAP to work? for example ASP.NET is not ticked by default.

Q3. The instructions say to install .net full V4 but this seems to be already installed on my new 2008r2 server which has only had all updates run. Is that correct and I do not need to re-install.

Hi, Just a few basic questions. Q1. Does HAP work for XP clients? Q2. The instructions say that it needs to be installed onto a website with SSL enabled. I have a fresh install of 2008R2, what needs to be done to create a website with SSL enabled. Will probably be asking a few more questions when I have the above answered. Thanks.

Stupid question but wanted to run it past everyone first. I need to demote (dcpromo) our old 2003 server but this server currently is also our printer server. Will it cause any knock on issues to the print server if I run dcpromo. Cheers

M25man. SRA 1200 Looks like a fantastic product. I have found all the setup demos but really need to see what the teacher will see when logging on to the system. Can you explain how that works and what they see. For example do they run a connect client or visit a website to make the connection.

It's hard to make a choice with out actually using both and getting ports opened with our LA takes forever. Decisions, decisions.

Found this very easy setup info for MS VPN http://www.thomasmaurer.ch/2010/10/how-to-install-vpn-on-windows-server-2008-r2/ Before I march onward: I was thinking of setting this up using the hyper-v system built in to 2008 r2. I have 2 physical nics. Q1. Is the above set up info usable if I have 2 Nics or use hyper-v or should I look for another?

DA is not an option as it needs Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate, the school have pro.

It would be for 10 users. I could probably push them to a few hundred pounds if I make a good case for it. I did have a play with home access a year or so back but never got it working. Might have another bash at that one. MS VPN has always confused me as they seem to do different versions TG web apps SSL etc. None of which I have used before. I only need basic access to the staff folders and it needs to be easy for the staff to use (Web based would be nice). If you can recommend a way of doing this using MS software that would be handy.

Hi, I am looking for a cheap vpn system. I did search the forums but it has been a while since anyone asked about vpn’s *It must be very easy to setup as I only work at the school 3 hours a fortnight. *I do have a spare 2008r2 server *very limited funds *Web based if possible. Obviously a hardware vpn would cost way too much but would consider second hand hardware or some form of appliance that turns a computer in to a vpn. Do not want adito or openvpn Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I have just taken over a new school, They have 2 servers, 1 is running 2008r2 enterprise and is a nice beefy machine. This server is the main DC. The other server has 2008r2 standard. I need to set up hyper-v on one of the servers but MS advise against running hyper-v on a DC. I could install hyper-v on the others server but you get just 1 virtual licence with standard and I will need 2 virtual machines. Can I use the enterprise licence that gives me 4 virtual machines on the 2008r2 standard machine? (I really hope I can as this is a small primary with no money for the next year or so)

Thanks VeryPC_ed The server has 2 nics. I have assigned DHCP, DNS etc to run through NIC1. I then enabled NIC2, setup Hyper-v and only used NIC2 as the Hyper-v network. When I go to networks adapters NIC2 is now the virtual NIC and a new NIC has been created which has the standard settings that I had assigned to NIC2 (IP = x.x.x.2, DNS = x.x.x.1). This is the first time I have set up hyper-v. Is my setup not dedicating hyper-v to NIC2?

The reason I started to investigate was due to computers falling of the network (not mapping drives etc) which cleared up after I disabled NIC2 on the server. This could have been coincidence so next week I will enable NIC2 and see what happens.
