Hi, I have just taken over a new school and have a new server which I need to use for Sims and FMS. Normally when I move Sims and FMS to a new server I use dbattach to export the databases and then to also import on the new server. Problem is the old tech has left me a sa username and password that does not work. I get the error ' login failed for user sa' I can access the sql studio and have managed to do a backup (BAK) of the databases. am I able to move the databases to the new server using some other methode? I have seen posts saying its better to use dbattach as it keeps the users intact. This is not a good situation, I don't like it when my standard method fails and I have to go down an unknown path, also I set tonight aside to do this. Thanks for any advice

Don't get it. you can get spam SMS and instant messages, and email is a good way to keep everything organised and backed up.

ok sorry for the confusion. Normally it should only take a few days to get full ED package. At one of my schools I had an issue with the DNS and needed some info from Google. I found an apps email address using google search and used that. They sorted me out that day. Sorry but I did not keep that email address as I have full phone support with the full ED package. If you want me to try and log a call for you tomorrow, pm me the details such as domain etc and I will give them a call.

Why are you upgrading? Would it not be better to apply for a new domain registered under the school domain (.sch.uk) I have only had very good dealings with the help system. Most problems have been fixed with in a few hours, but that was using the apps for edu help

You can see which calendar is shared or overlaid in the menu down the left side. I would see what is listed.

Today I got diagnosed with glandular fever and feel like pants, then my mum called to say she has cancer. All I want to do I get over to her and see her but I am stuck in bed for who knows how long. What a nightmare day.

I would also not use synctoy. Failed in our testing.

I have got to do a new server install next week and wanted to get the Spring 12 Sims & FMS cd images. I can not find them in Support Net (might be due to my schools being LA supported) and I do not want to get them from our LA as last time they sent me a copy of the setups folder from another school, which was way out of date and caused me no end of problems. Any advice please.

Is that not what you would want? If I delete a folder on the source it will delete it on the destination. or have I missed your point?

ACLs would be handy for work but RichCopy might be what I need for home.

Hi, I am total useless at robocopy syntax. I always end up with multiply commands that all seem to do the same thing. I do have the list of switches but would like some help. What I simply need is to copy the contents from one folder to another without it wiping the destination first and just to copy any new or updated files and log any problems. should I use the /mir or something else? Thanks

ahh its ok. Just found the 'cancel export' text at bottom right.

I am just exporting a few hyper-v vm's but do not see any progress bar. If I go in to the export folder / vm and hit refresh I can see new files being added. How do I know when it has finished.

Just about to leave so will need to post back later. We are using Google apps for ed as our main website and vle system. We have wireless. It depends on the size of school but I would recommend on paying for a decent system, don't just get home style systems. I look after a few primary schools. Will update later.

I also have it on a laptop but was thinking of getting an Xtreamer Ulta2 Xtreamer Ultra2 Announcement! anyone had a play on one of these? Any good?

Thanks for all the info. Engineer did not turn up, lol, so I installed both pcl5 and pcl6 drivers on the main office machine. Pcl6 did not work with Sims and the publisher doc did work with pcl6.

Setup: Server = 2003 Client = Win7 Software = publisher 2003 Printer = Ricoh copier/printer Driver = PCL5 One of the office staff created a very basic booklet in Publisher 2003 using the pre-built wizard and just added some text and pics. When she printed it to the Ricoh printer some of the pages were part missing background colour, some text and some of the pics just were not printers. I printed the same document to other printers around the school and it printed fine. (all printers are pcl5). I then installed the Ricoh drivers on to a test machine but got the same errors. Odd thing is that it has the same missing elements in the same spots when printing this doc from any machine to the Ricoh. I then assumed it was a hardware fault and called an engineer out. I was not on site when he visited the school but he called me lots of times and did not have a clue about networks or software. He was on site for 4 hours and his first assessment was that it must be the pc. I explained we could print to other printers. He then said it must be the driver, he informed me that PCL5 was not supported on Ricoh machines, I pointed out that a) it has worked fine for the last few years, b)Sims works better with PCL5 and as most schools use Sims, then most schools will also be using PCL5. He then said it was the way Publisher creates multi page documents (booklets), I reminded him that I could print the same doc to any other printer. He has arranged to come back to the school later this week when I am on site. Any recommendations how I could work out what's going on. Does this look like a PLC, driver, pc, Ricoh or document issue.

depending on your version of SQL you can get SQL manager to delete older backups automatically while its doing a backup.
