Just tried to use Robocopy but got a 'the filename, directory name or syntax is incorrect using the following: "Robocopy "\\server1\Multimedia$" "\\server2\Multimedia$" /E /Z /SEC /R:2 /W:30 /TEE /LOG+:"copy.log" Cant be the file or folder name so must be a syntax issue. I also assume it does not matter which server I am running this from as long as the first server/share is the source.

It was March last time I checked. Not sure if it has moved back.

Cant help with the hack but wanted to point out that I believe that handset is going to get the update officially from HTC at some point.

What is it you need advice on? Is it how to setup the new server? Is it how to move dns or other roles to the new server? or is it advice on which roles should go on the new server? or something else

Am I right in thinking you run the toolkit from the destination server rather than the server I will copy the data from?

So is the Ubuntu tv running inside a tv or running from a device like xbmc XBMC

Does the migration toolkit work on domain servers, something in the white paper mentions DFS root server cannot be a domain controller.

I need to move a ton of folders from one server to another server with as little after work as poss. I have found these 2 commands but wanted you advice first. The first option looks like I would need to create all the shares first which I don't really want to do.

Doing something similar at one of my schools. I had a look into doing what you mention but decided it was to risky. I purchased a HP Microserver for £150 ish and added some extra drives and memory. I am migrating the old server onto the microserver and then back again and the school can keep working.

I would like to add that it is perfect for primary schools. When rolling out I have tended to start with sites as this can replace most of the terrible websites / VLE's that are in place for primary schools, this then gives your staff and pupils a central area for any other apps you might want to add. I have recently run 3 courses (in 3 schools) teaching the staff how to add content to the class pages and they love it. I normally spend about 30mins going over the basics and then the next hour or so is used by the staff to create their own pages. Not from a secondary school point of view but it does more or less everything a standard paid for VLE does in a primary school. Teachers can share and receive homework, Upload coursework and pupils can have an e-portfolio area etc.

Surely the tiles are just great big icons.

They have been trying to build this for a long long time. The original idea was to create a standard style 'my computer' drive with offline capabilities. Hope they have stuck with this idea, as it would be perfect for me. If you have a android phone you can use this drive as the default save to folder, nice.

Sorry to drag this on. But with my set up I would end up with only one would I not. (one vm dc and one vm server) is that correct or have I got it wrong, or am i still leaving the roles on the old server which has now been virtualzed. Sorry I am really keen to go down this road but need double check everything before I start.

Why would you do this in a vm and not on the host machine? Both are not recommended by MS. EDIT: by both I mean. running a DC in a vm or running hyper-v on a host that also is the DC.
