  1. We have cancelled but the contract has a years notice period.
  2. For them its more than a 2 min job. The job has to be approved, Then they normally fudge the work and then you log another job to get it fixed. Last time I get a port changed it took 6 weeks.
  3. They are going to call me back. I'll post how it goes.
  4. I'll give them a call then. cheers. Would have thought that a school domain (.sch.uk) would be good enough.
  5. For a number of reasons. 1.They do not have dns control the LA does and they charge a few hundred to do the changes. 2. They don't want email or domain changes. With Google Apps you can setup everything docs, websites etc using the school domain but without changing dns settings. In Google apps control panel you can setup redirection to domains or DNS changes, its your choice. Is my original question possible?
  6. I have a school that would like to use office 365 only. they do not need email or SharePoint etc. Is it possible to set up Office 365 using the schools domain but not change MX or DNS settings?
  7. Did find on another forum that it might be AMD that do the raid os software, but not had a chance to look.
  8. The raid has been setup using the bios system but I don't have any way of checking the drives in windows. I know that a system does exist for adding drives or checking them from the OS as I have seen it on a youtube video but hp don't seem to have the software listed on their site.
  9. Just found out it does install sql express.
  10. Just downloading as I type. Going to take a few hours. Does the server need sql installed to run SCVMM or does it install its own database?
  11. Ahh that looks good. Cheers. How does SCVMM work. Do I install it onto my micro server and it grabls an image from a remote machine or does it need installing on to the machine its going to image?
  12. I have setup raid 1 on my microserver and installed 2008r2 but dont seem to be able to find any raid management software for it. How do I check that the drives are ok?
  13. Think I might bottle out on this. Going to take a vm of the server as a backup, but will do a standard migrate. Move all the files and roles onto the microserver, check all is ok and then move them back. Its long winded but is something I have done many times. The virtual element is adding in some confusion for me.
  14. Yes one server in the school that does everything. And I have my own micro server that I will need to remove from the school at some point. So do you mean - setup 2008r2 on my micro server add 2008r2 to domain dcpromo microserver At this point would I make the 2008r2 master dc or not? then vm convert the 2003 server move the 2003 vm onto my 2008r2 microserver wipe the old server and setup os
  15. One last question. Would I be best moving the DC roles to my 2008r2 box before conversion? So I end up with a 2008r2 server with the roles and running a hyper-v with my 2003 server. or is it ok to just grab the lot and fire the 2003 vm with all DC roles up and run it like that.
  16. A few questions about SCVMM. If I install SCVMM onto a 2008r2 box will it create a vm of my 2003 AD server and will I then be able to fire up this vm on the 2008r2 box that is running SCVMM. I dont have access to lots of servers so will need to run the vm from the machine that has captured it.
  17. VMware converter will stop all the services for you, but to be 100% you can do it yourself. It works very well on a live server even a live DC and is free.
  18. What is the difference between shutdown.exe -s -t 30 and shutdown.exe -f -s, which was listed on another site.
  19. Basically I am updating a server from 2003 to 2008r2 and have managed to get hold of a hp micro server to aid me in the update. My plan is to install 2008r2 on to the micro server, then dcpromo and move the roles. At that point I was going to virtualize the old 2003 server and move that on to hyper-v on the 2008 server. At that point I can wipe the old 2003 server and install 2008, move everything back. does that sound about right? Looks like SCVMM needs a server to run from while it does its thing. As this is a one off h2v and its a small primary with no spare servers would I be best using the disk2vhd? Thanks
  20. No problem, the staff will love it as its so easy for them to use.
  21. Do you have any instructions or advice about setting this up. Cheers
  22. I also had issue after issue and gave up.
  23. it does do %username% but you need to add the symbols that are found in the button next to the share entry box. Looks great. will have a play
  24. With the version I am running that would be 25 currently connected users, so you could give out the connection app to a 1000 users if you wanted. The reason I say with my version is I have not got round to updating to the latest version and I notice the wording has changed on the openvpn as site, it no longer says concurrent users but Perpetual License Fee Per Client Connection. At some point I will fire up a test version in a vm and see what if anything has changed.
  25. I am a bit of a Google Apps for ED fan but have been asked to look at using parts of both MS & Google systems. I can create a landing page with links to all the apps needed for both systems, and keep usernames and passwords the same for both systems. So in theory I should be able to create a reasonably seamless experience. It's been a while since I tested out the MS system. Do they still need changes made to the schools DNS settings even if the school does not need the MS email system? Anyone using both systems?
