Complete server replication. Is it possible?
edutech4schools replied to dany2010's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
One thing I would be interested in is if the main DC server goes down is it easier to get all the rolls working on the backup dc or is it easier to restore a system state backup to the main DC. -
Might help if they actually collected tax from the top companies.

Does the HP Micro server have hardware or software raid?
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Hardware
Does it take standard form factor sized sata drives? On the HP site it says they recommend hp LFF (low form) drives that fit the unit. Can the unit take SATA II or is it just SATA? Can I just bung in some PC3 DDR3 memory or does it need to be more exotic memory? -
Does the HP Micro server have hardware or software raid?
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Hardware
That would explain the conflicting posts I have looked at. Probably get 2 1tb drives mirrored in a microserver to do the job. Do they they take standard hard drives? -
I keep reading different posts, some say it has hardware raid and some say software. Which is correct? I need to update a server in a single server school and might use a micro server as a holding area for files and server rolls while I update the old server but would prefer it has hardware raid.

I look after a number of primary schools and most are using Google Apps of ED, and our local secondary is also using GA. We have replaced our websites and vle with Google Sites which does everything our vle/website did before but for free and a heck of a lot easier. Many people on this forum say that sites is to basic but if you dive under the hood it can do some awesome stuff. My only gripe is it does look a bit dated and could do with some html5 love, also it was me that had to build the school sites and I am not an arty type so did not enjoy doing it much.

Has Raid installed ok on our Dell 2900 server
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
In my bios I have 3 physical disks and 3 virtual disks. the 3 virtual disks have been allocated the space referenced in my first posts, so it was initially set up like this. Should I have 1 virtual disk with the full size allocated? -

The server had server2003 and was using raid before. I assumed that had been setup correctly. I will have a look round the raid bios and see what's up when I get 5 mins. -
I have just installed server 2008R2 onto our old Dell PowerEdge 2900. Dell say the drivers are native in the OS and the install went without any issues, but when I view disk manager I get: Disk 0 - System Reserve 100mb / 19gb unallocated Disk 1 - 123mb unallocated Disk 2 - c 51gb (NTFS, boot, pagefile...) / d 200gb The system has 3 sas drives of 140gb each and seeing as disk 2 has more than that I would reason raid is ok but why do I get disk1,2,3 listed? On my other newer server I just get Disk 0

To do a sql backup. (This is from memory) Log in to SQL management studio click management in tree right click on maintenance in tree and choose new (use the wizard) Pick the database to backup choose full choose to create a new backup file for each database choose the folder to backup to in the file extension type bac might be a few other bits but think that's about it. You can also setup a maintenance task that will delete backups older than x days. Remeber to right click on sql server agent in list and click start or nothing will happen.
-
Why would you use scripts etc when the full sql software has export and backup functionality built in. It can keep x no of days of backups and tidy the database while it backs up and is the recommended Microsoft way to backup an SQL database.

What version of SQL server software are you running? if its the full SQL server with SQL manager you can use this to backup. I can give you instructions if you have the full version.

Actually while weak is not how I would go about putting it, people who believe in a faith do actually have a different brain construct. Much research has been done. For example you can trigger belief in anyone by pulses of electricity being aimed at specific regions of the brain. Someone that never believed suddenly has a feeling that there is more to our world. Many crash victims that have damages that part of the brain have become religious but it can go the other way. From a scientific standpoint this was crucial when we evolved from apes (although if you do believe in God that never happened) and was needed to create a common together feeling between our ancestors. This also shows that it is all in the mind, which explains allot to me, as I cant understand how someone would believe in something just because it is in a book. The feeling that you are being watched over is pre coded into most peoples minds, and the need to explain why they have that feeling is handed to them in the Bible or other texts. Don't get me wrong, I would love to believe that when I die I will go on to a higher plane, that must be a fantastic feeling, but I am also happy to be feeding the worms and becoming one with the Earth when I die, even if I don't know it at the time.

I really hope this thread does not get stopped as I would never go to a God based forum to chat about this. To me it is not rational to believe in something I cant see, touch or interact with and to make it even harder for me to understand religion its all based on stories. I simply do not get how someone can give over part of their lives to something that might not be. I know the difference between right and wrong and have very good moral standards, all without being religious. If religion never was created I truly believe there would be less wars and suffering in this world. The evil people in this world would not have a catalist with which to push their evil agends.

This is another of my issues. It depends when in time you are. for example, simply having this thread (which to us is not a bad thing) would have meant being stoned to death at some point in our past.
