Have any of these products ever caused an issue with the physical system? Just need to be 100% before I go play on a live setup.

Don't really understand the AJAX side of things but I did read that Adito also supports web bassed AJAX RDP. But I doubt it will ever get html5 as its no longer getting updated.

Does depend on the size of your school. I look after primary schools. I just use the 2 free licences and so far nobody has complained that they can not get on because both users are logged in. Might be because they don't do much work from home lol. So for me and my schools it has been completely free.

Also needs to be a free converter.

Am I right in thinking it's still best to use vmware converter to convert a server even if the virtual system will end up being hyper-v. Not sure if any of the converters for hyper-v have moved on since last year when I checked. Back then I was advised to use vmware converter to get the vm and then convert that to hyper-v. Is this still the recommended method?

That's right. the rdp session is internal and picks up all updates etc. The 2 systems openvpn AS and Adito are very very different products. Openvpn AS has a very corporate feel and has many security layers, anything you can do inside your network you can do from home with this. Adito is nice and easy to use from a staff point of view. Having used both systems I would probably go down the Openvpn AS direction as a general rule but will still be using Adito in a few schools.

Obviously the web based system (Adito) does not apply gpo's, but if all you need is file access or RDP you don't need that anyway.

Its then $5 per perpetual licence. I also have been playing with adito, which is completely free. Adito is web based but along with mapping drives can also run RDP and remote apps, all from a browser. The user goes to a web page and logs in and they get a list of drives and apps you have granted. Its very very simple for the user to use. Both systems work on xp, w7, apple, linux

Totally agreed. every reason given for using DA can be done using vpn. Even gpo's can be applied and update over vpn.

Sorry but I don't get it. All the points listed for direct access can be done using a free vpn system with the exception of GPO's being applied before the laptops logs in. If you take openvpn access server (not to be confused with openvpn) you get an icon on the users desktop, all they do is click this and it connects to a radius server for authentication, after that the user may as well be in the building. The connection will auto reconnect, all network drives get mapped and sims works and updates from home. The system comes in a hyper-v or vmware appliance and can be set up in an hour or so.

I had something odd like this. I fixed it by applying ALL Microsoft updates. The reason I say ALL is we had chosen not to apply all windows updates due to a software conflict.

I have not had any issues or error messages.

So when you pupils went from office 2003 to 2007 did they get confused? as that was a complete design change. If a school or company goes over to Google you no longer use office so no jumping needed, and it has a much simpler interface so even less confusion. Very much doubt that. Google offer far more than just an office suite. Lets take photos, which in a school is hugely important, with Google you get Picasa, an online professional photo storage system on par with flicker. Microsoft completely failed in that department and had to shut down their online photo storage site. All photos can be shared with another users or with a website simply by clicking share. Lets take video storage next, with Google you get 3 choices for video storage. No1 - Youtube - the worlds biggest video storage site. 2. store your videos in a folder in Google Docs. 3. Google also give you a domain only video sharing service. All videos can be shared with another users or with a website simply by clicking share. Lets take docs. I can create a document and share it with 100 people. All of those users can work on that document at the same time. No locked documents. Lets take sites. every users can create an unlimited amount of websites. You can create a website as a school landing page (like Igoogle) so when they logon all the docs emails calendars photos are on a single page. I have dumped our old school websites / vle and replaced them with google sites. You can embed api's apps or any other google based system such as a shared calendar in a site and make it user dependant. The staff can create a document in Google docs, then click share with website and thats it on the website for the parents, staff or pupils. Google docs also has the much loved forms, a system that lets you easily create a question-air or test sheets which auto populates a spreadsheet with graphs and feedback and can be added to the site, emailed or shared. You can also display live data from the answers on the site. You get Google groups, a forum system which can be used for IT work requests and linked to the school site. You get mobile device policy control. You get access to a massive amount of google api's that I have not even started to look at yet. Best of all you get thanked by the staff for introducing something that is easy for the non computer literate staff to use, rather than trying to keep things consistent for you own benefit. EDIT: I could go on (and probably will add more to the list) but I need to go and get some food.

One of those shoe makers is going to add a jet pack and for the next few years they are going to charge a fair amount for them, which is fine, after all the came up with the idea. But then a few years down the line the other shoe makers have also added a jet pack, and a few other extras, and a range off different designs and they are cheaper. So should the original shoe maker still be charging lots more for a design that has not really changed.

Get this. If you open the original I-pad it had the space and screw holes for a camera. The reason it was not installed was not cost as they are quite cheap, no it was to make all the apple fans upgrade to the I-pad 2, which came with a camera. how nice.

I know its down to personal preference but I just don't get why a school would be going down the MS road when you have a set of tools (google) that imho are years ahead, does more and is completely free. Please don't say its because word on-line looks the same as the desktop version (as someone in another forum had) or something like that as that's a pants reason.

I drive a VW camper to my schools. Might be handy if I get snowed in on the way.
