Hi, I am just about to move a HP network printer from one server to another (both 2008r2) I have the printer setup in GPO and will be naming the printer differently. Should I Add a new GPO setting for the printer and set the old printer to delete. or Alter the GPO settings for the old printer with the new printer settings and select update in the GPO action settings. If I use this method will it update the name of the printer and the fact its on a different server while keeping settings that the user may have set such as if its a default printer.

I'll pass that on to my mate who heads up the IT dept for WWF.

In the post above they talk about is this an issue in steds code above?

We dumped all our vle's and went over to Google Apps for ED. It's so easy for the staff to use. I run a quick 20 min course and off they go adding content to the class pages. Everything ties together so if you want a document or calendar on the site you simply share it with the site and bingo its automatically added. If you create a slideshow of photos once the folder has been shared with the site you simply add or delete photos in the folder and the site automatically updates the slideshow. The staff looove how easy it is for them although I did have to create the site layout, but that was as easy as using word.

I am just migrating servers and seem to remember a tool suggested on this site that could set all the folder shares based on the folder names, but I cant find it. Any ideas? (2008r2)

Not much point using a standard account to test as it is different from the Google Apps for ED account which is also free and can be set up for testing purposes.

Rather than uninstalling just stop the spooler service then open the spooler folder and delete all the print jobs, then start the spooler service. As for the actual issue, I have the same problem at one of my schools. I think I have narrowed it down to a corrupt adobe install on a few laptops. If I print from adobe on one of these laptops it firstly crashes the printer, then if they try and print again it crashes the spooler. It takes ages to work out what's causing these issues as it can be drivers, firmware, OS, or the software they are printing from that causes it.

Well I migrated all roles, files AD, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, SQL, Sims, FMS and everything else and nobody noticed any speed issues on the network. hmmm might not spend loads of cash on a big server next time round if this little thing can handle the load fine. Something in between me thinks.

Just sent a pm. But surely if we hold a sch.uk domain and can add files to our webspace and reply to emails sent to the school is this not enough for MS.

We have the same. It happens on desktops and laptops, wired and wireless, some imaged some oem. I have started having some that after removing from domain will not re-join. Next time I will try some of the above tips. cheers.

Do I need to bind them or should I be ok enabling nic 2 and pointing hyper-v at nic 2?

I am just about to install the hyper-v role onto a 2008r2 server in a small primary. They only have one server and it runs everything (ad, dhcp, dns, sims......) I also understand that this is not recommended by MS, but I know of lots of primary's that are doing this. The server has 2 nics. Nic 1 is enabled, Nic 2 is disabled. I was going to enable Nic 2 and while adding the hyper-v role use nic for all the virtual machines but have just read a blog that says if I do this it will cause dns issues and both nics might need to be binded. Is this the case. Can someone advice.

depending on your version of SQL it can do its own backup which creates a file in the sql backups folder. Simply back this folder up as normal.

I am trying to find a free / open source product that works like team viewer or logmein. Yes both these companies offer a free version but I am self employed and need to keep everything above board. I only look after small primaries and the prices these companies offer, while being a good price, are too expensive for me to justify getting for the very few times it will get used. I need access to the servers and office machines. The catch is I cant easily change our port' and it costs way too much to do. Both logmein and team viewer work using port 80 for the initial outbound connection and get round the port problem. Any ideas

Hi, I look after a number of small primary schools and have everything more or less set up the same in each school. One of these schools constantly (twice a day) get a problem printing and the only way for me to get things running is to turn the print spooler service off, delete jobs from spooler folder and the restart the service. Recently the school got a new server and upgraded from 2003 to 2008R2, they also replaced all the printers which were hp3600n and put in Dell 1355cn. I thought that replacing all this kit would have the knock on effect of fixing this issue, but it is still an issue. I am starting to think some software the staff are printing from might be causing this but not sure how to fault find this problem. Any advice.

Is this not a bunch of free software bundled together that you have to pay for?

when you say secured are you talking about being damaged or locked down from a software settings view point as you mention both in your post. You can control some security function if you have a Google Apps for ed account. Things like encryption, what apps can be added are all controlled with this.

Hi, We use the LA sims support but they cant give me a sims / fms setup cd for some reason, so I applied for Sims Support net thinking I would be able to get at the downloads but cant find them. I need to do a fresh install on a new server, can someone point me in the direction of the downloads. NB. I was given a link that downloads the Sring11 setup files but assume this is out of date.

I have had 3 Android Phones, not rooted and on Ginger. They all support Proxy.
