Depends on how much time you would have for redoing all of your group policies and any other settings that you may have on your network. Also if you have other systems that piggy back from accounts on AD you would have to troubleshoot those as they will stop working once the old domain ceases to exist, i.e. SIMS server, door system, etc. Doing a P2V would definitely be a lot quicker, plus also look at putting the new Virtual Environment in a cluster or HA configuration if possible for added reliability.

Unify is great for switches and Wi-Fi for a good value compared to everybody else. One of the other reasons for upgrading will be backups. As your network utilisation will shoot up while they are running. But if they can finish during the night without anyone noticing then you are ok. Also once you move to voip get something that allows you to configure vlans quickly. I think cisco and hp deal with them slightly different, so be weary of mixing them on the network.

Hi Pete, Yeah they must have, as that's the only thing that we have changed over here recently. It wasn't until a while afterwards that some of the users started reporting this problem. Routing is being done by the Juniper Box.

Hi Bossman, The Linux box is running through a Netgear GS724T, and the machine is virtualised on a VMWare host. Don't think it could be the port on the switch, as all the other VMs on the same host don't have this issue that I can see. Plus if you re-open the connection to the machine either through SSH or any other protocol everything starts working fine, until the connection gets closed again by something.

The OS version is CentOS 6.8 and I've double checked and there's nothing using the same IP address anywhere. But thank you for suggesting that, it wasn't one of the things that I had checked yet.

This is happening on the local LAN, and there are no firewalls in between these machines. We have changed our default router over to a Juniper box.

The server is a VM.

Dear masters of Linux. I have a situation were one of our Linux servers keeps closing all remote connections to itself throughout the working day. I could be connected through it on SSH, only for it to close my connection whenever it feels like it. Is there a way of finding out why this is happening and how to stop it if it is a setting on that server somewhere? Thanks in advance to all of the masters out there.

Hi guys, Looking after some advice here. Just yesterday, I had to replace our main router for a Juniper box. I'm in the process of configuring it now, and getting our old stuff working again as before. What I need to do is that I need to somehow is the following. 1. Add a route to the Juniper box so that DNS requests for a remote site (e. 10.100.0.0) are rerouted to an internal VPN server inside the internal IP range of 192.168.5.0. 2. Get the Juniper box to join two of our internal networks together. One sits in the 192.168.5.0 range and the other one is on the 192.168.50.0 range. If anyone can give me some ideas or point me in the right direction that would be awesome, as I've never had to do much work in configuring routers or firewalls before. Many thanks.

Ah weird. Because I implemented something on the VTL, and now the files are no longer compressed. I was disabling compression on the Backup Softwares, but the VTL on a few of them was forcing the Virtual Tape to have Compression enabled. And there was no option to disable it from the Windows Server

Hi Geoff. Yes I did have Deduplication on the VTL, but I managed to turn that off. The issue was that the VTL was still compressing the files, and there was no easy way of turning it off at the VTL level. But I think I have figured out how to do it since then. Thank you for your reply.

Hi guys, Wondering if any Linux gurus out there can help me out. I have been playing with Quadstor VTL installed on top of CentOS 7 to test different backup software and how they would write to tapes. In this case the Quadstor VTL is giving the function of Virtual Tapes. After weeks of trying I finally figured out how to install everything and I got a working rig. However, the thing I'm trying to figure out is that compression seems to be enabled somewhere either on the VTL Software or on CentOS 7 somewhere, and I need to turn it off, as I think it' messing up some of the backup jobs. I had 8 Gigs of data suddenly become only 1 Meg on the tapes. Any help is greatly appreciated, oh Linux Masters.

Well, don't know how much longer this will be here at this rate. I have used Windows Backup, Backup Exec, VEEAM, and DPM in the past and they are all a heck of a lot easier to use than this Tivoli thing. Maybe someone saw the IBM brand on it and thought it would be good. Thank you MJK for the documentation site. I will look through it there, although I have been browsing the IBM's webpages for the past few days. Oh and we've got no support with IBM.
