  1. Google Apps, MS office 365, HomeAccess Plus (found on this site) would also do a similar task to the one your after.
  2. Just wondered what happens if during a holiday a users AD password expires. Would HAP give any meaningful info?
  3. my neighbor uses VIRUS. just makes me want to hack it.
  4. Take your time. I took over some schools and went to change some standard settings which snowballed as something unrelated had been configured incorrectly by the previous tech.
  5. What is this? I have done a google but the wart converters seem to require an AC input. Am I looking at the correct devices? My solar panel comes with a female cig lighter. Not wanting to blow up by expensive Samy phone would I be ok to connect straight to the female cig lighter? presumably this is no different to charging in a car or should I go through a 240v converter and use the normal 3 pin plug?
  6. I have a small primary school. All local machines are windows 7 but they have 2 xp laptops that are currently at the teachers home. We have just got a new printer and I do not work on the same day as the 2 staff members who will be bringing in the xp machines soon. I normally connect to the shared printer from an xp machine and install the xp print drivers on to the server. Is it possible to put the drivers straight in to the 2008r2 server without having an xp client?
  7. Not sure why people compare the surface pro with an i-pad. I-pads are for consumption and the surface pro is for production, 2 completely different things.
  8. Just taken over a new primary school and the last techie had started to set up a 2008r2 server to replace the 2003 server. I was just about to run adprep /forestprep and /domainprep but wonder how I would tell if the last techie has already done this. Cheers
  9. Is a sine wave and a modified sine wave the same thing? I find Maplins useless in my area for tech info.
  10. Its a small primary = no new server for wsus anytime soon.
  11. 2008r2 server. Mix of xp and 7 WSUS deployed using GPO Our WSUS server has gone pop and I need to point all machines back to MS. How should I do this.
  12. Hi, I have a solar panel connected to a car battery but need this to give 240v but have found different types of converters to choose from. I would like to be able to power a small radio, recharge my phone / laptop (not all at the same time) Some converters or is it inverters? have sine wave and some have modified sine wave. I assume some kind of sine wave is best rather than square wave but not sure which. What watts would I need? Thinking about 300w Does this look good? http://www.amazon.co.uk/PURE-SINE-WAVE-POWER-INVERTOR/dp/B005ERFDGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350228772&sr=8-1 Thanks for any help.
  13. For me the opposite. All those silly 'breaking regulation 118726 section b' jokes got on my t~ts.
  14. That is precisely my intention, just wanted a quick way to bring this 'backup server' back online if it should die.
  15. Hi, (small primary / 2008r2) My main DC is installed on a standalone server (not virtual). I am currently setting up a second DC in 2008r2 hyper-v. I understand that it is not a good idea to snapshot a DC but what about using the export feature to export the entire VM to another location? I use the export on other VMs to back them up and would be interested if this is ok for a DC.
  16. Only small primary and each class share a login. I have created the home drives using AD and that has worked but how do I remove the long location address next to the drive letter. at the moment it is H:server.domain.lan\pupils\year1 as the other drives just have a letter.
  17. The LA who I took over from did all the mapping in a script including the home folder. Rather than going in to all users AD settings I wanted to just add a mapping using GP, which I have done at a few other schools I took over without any issues. I will see if it does make a difference using AD but in practice applying the home folder using GP does work.
  18. Currently have this \\server\%username%$ which is the same as all the other mapped drives \\server\multimeadia$ \\server\staff etc. Also it works if I manually delete the old mapping first.
  19. Hi, At one of my schools we are moving from script based drive mappings to gpo mappings and moving the files to a new server. I have done this many times at other schools without any issues. I have removed the mapping entries from the script and created the gpo's. When a student logs on to a laptop (All XP) all the drives get mapped to the new server except the home drive which still points to the old server. If I disconnect the home drive, reboot the laptop and logon it links to the new server. I do not want to do this for all laptops and all accounts. gpresult has the new server listed. What have I missed?
  20. When enabling folder re-direction you can get the server to merge the 'local my docs folder' with the users home folder on the server so they do not lose or overwrite any files when enabling the policy.
  21. Hi, At one of my very small primary schools all the pupils logon as a class (class1, or class2). At my other schools I have folder re-direction setup by GPO to merge the users 'my documents and home folders' and would like to set this up at this small school. Has anyone else already done this at a school where the students all logon as a group?
