is this not aimed at stopping young children from accidentally viewing indecent images. Most of the posts above are complaining that it will infringe on their online habits. I have a 6 year old who browses the internet and I do use parent filters but I am very much in a minority and dread to think what some of my sons class mates get to see by accident while at home. Will this not protect them from accidentally viewing some very bad stuff?

FMS is almost the same but easier as you do not need to worry about documentstorage folder. post back if you have any issues.

My method of installing SQL 2008r2. run installer click new install In features I select database engine features client tools connectivity client tools backwards compatibility management tools basic management tools complete next (if you wanted you could just select all for the above features) select named instance and type in SQL2008 (if installing sql2008 or sql200r2) instance id = SQL2008 instance root = (I choose d:\program files\Microsoft SQL server) next service accounts = choose an account on the server that will run the services. I choose NT Authority/system. If you can not select what you need just skip this and add the service accounts later in services.msc next account provisioning = I choose mixed and type in an SA password and add an administrator in the bottom box. next think that is about it

just think of a standsrd folder name, say, nobackup, then get the staff to always save stuff they do not want backed up inside a folder they call nobackup. Then get the backup software not to backup any folders named nobackup using exclusions.

In the last year I Replaced the server / network and Sims clients at about 7 different schools. It does not actually take that long to do. Just out of interest why are they not saving to a home drive on the server, that way they will always have the data no mater which computer they are at and makes installing a new pc simpler.

I did wonder how the school cooks managed to make the burgers so bad.

When any of my windows 7 users select a bunch of photos to use in the right click print option (the one that lets you print multiple photos on one page) it never works. The user either gets a progress bar that never ends or an error box saying the photo system encountered an issue, try re-installing the drivers. Up until now the teachers have just grabbed an xp machine to do the printing. I have tried replacing the drivers with different versions and even tried to replace the photowiz.dll but this caused other issues. Does anyone have any ideas?

That Domain is not really in the EU but on a server somewhere, so you would still need to contact ICO. I have done this 5 times and all they want is an email saying you are using Gapps.

We informed the ICO Data Protection and Freedom of Information advice - ICO.org.uk when we moved to Gapps. Not an issue but something you should do if data might leave the EU.

Remote desktop services is very handy. Gives them the same stuff at home as in school. Bonus is things like Sims and FMS run super fast as they are running within the school and only the image is sent over the internet. Again only one port (HTTPS) needed and once it is up and running it needs no real maintenance.

Cook - What if they are an external company?

Firstly, I know others have asked I-Pad questions but I did not want to hijack those posts and have some other questions that will probably follow from this post. The school have asked me to look at getting 6 I-Pads (or Android). They have not told me how much but knowing how little money this school has I suspect they will go with the Androids anyways. What is the cheapest way of managing the I-Pads from an apps point of view, taking in to account the fact that the school does not want to enter the schools credit card details into any of them? I believe that they would need to have Apple configurator but that would also need an I-Mac, which pushes the cost up., is this correct? Also, how do I purchase an I-Pad for a school? I was going round and round on the Apple site.

First thing that comes to mind is when a staff member leaves how do you ensure they do not still have school related information. I also think the ICO would need to be informed if school data was being sent to servers in other parts of the World and using personal email accounts would make this impossible.

Or you could use single sign on.

I have created a landing page in Google Sites under a tab named Staff Resources that is attached to the main schools website. When the users clicks the link it asks for the Google username and password before letting them move on to the landing page, from this point on they are already signed in to all the Google apps and all they need to do is click the email pic on my landing page and it opens.
