Home folder best practice
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
OK think I have set this up correctly, please advise if not. I worked out that I needed 'redirect to the following location' The issue I have with doing it this way is the user still sees the My Documents folder inside the home folder, is this not an issue???. If I created the entire path in AD (\\server\share\user\mydocs) they are already inside the my documents folder when they click on the home folder but doing it this way means manually creating the folder. If I do user the redirected policies methode I presume I will need to manually move all home folder contents into the automatically created My Documents folder? -

In folder redirection policies do I use 'Create a folder for each user under the root path' or 'redirect to the following location' both options have a root path box. -

Sorry but I had a very busy day and did not word my original posts correctly. I think ADMaster has understood my ramblings and I will look at creating the extra folder using gpo redirection tomorrow and check if that works. -

Home folder best practice
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I have realised the above post only works if you already have a user and home folder setup on the server. I have just tried to create a new user. If I use \\server\staff$\user\My Docs I get an error that the folder was not created as the path was not found. I have worked out that it does work if I remove the My Docs part. But then I will get the redirected folder issue where it renames the users folder to My docs. How is everyone else creating home folders from AD. Are you physically creating a users folder in the home folder area first and then creating the user in AD. -
Which would be best practice for creating a users home folder in AD. The directory tree to the home folders is D:\home\user Should I make 'user' folder a share$ and then create my documents in that folder so d:\home\user$\My Documents (AD would be \\server\user$\Mydocs) or should I make 'home' the share$ so I end up with d:\home$\user\My Documents (AD would be \\server\home$\user\My docs) Both methods seem to work and both stop the folder being renamed to 'mydocuments' if folder redirection is enabled. Does it make a difference from a security point of view?

That is no different than them not giving you the server admin password and probably not legal. They also should have kept an up to date list of passwords on school property. Have you tried the school safe?

If it was me I would be getting the sa password sorted asap. it could cause you all sorts of issues without it. For example if your sims backup is not using the SA account is it actually backing up all the sims user accounts or just the data?

EDIT: My primary schools are looking at replacing all printers with MFP under contract. Colour print cost of single page on a hp 3600 printer is about 40p per page. MFP = 5p + quarterly cost.

Do you know how many times I have had to buy a new disk because the kids have scratched them. This would have saved me loads.

Android - tasker notifications menu
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Other Stuff
You might find that the other profiler apps were actually made using tasker as it gives you the option to create apps to post in google play and like I said above it also does the same as a ton of other apps so you only need this one rather than lots of other apps. -
Android - tasker notifications menu
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Other Stuff
I do already use profile widget but wanted to use tasker as you can then add your own voice controls and get it to speak back when a setting has changed or even get it to automatically change the profiles based on other tasks like near to a certain cell tower. It also saves me having to install lots of different apps. -
Android - tasker notifications menu

Found this which might be what I am after [MOD] Permanent notification menu in tasker - xda-developers but in section 3 it says to I am not able to find a tool icon. I must be looking in the wrong section. -
problem for me is the children also like to play games and being able to push a button and play without all the other pc stuff is a must. Wish I had the cash for console and decent pc.

You can all shoot me down but I would have liked a steam esk xbox with drm. I imagine at some point I would be able to buy second hand games directly in the xbox menu etc.

I am using the tasker app which is fantastic and wanted to create a menu in the notifications pull down bar that when pressed opens a menu with 4 profile options, Home, Work, Car, Night. I can create the profiles which change volume settings, wifi on off etc but can not find anything online to create the menu system. If this is not possible should I look at listing each profile as separate entities in the pull down bar which I would imagine is easier. I am very new to tasker and hope someone at edugeek is able to help a little.

Not so. You can create from aliases in gmail that use other addresses in the send from address. -
I have been using the mir switch for years and not had that issue. Could something like virus scanning change the file attributes?
