Hi Stu, To understand this best it would be good to know if you simply pointed the domain (at the registrar) to new nameservers and it's these nameservers which are no longer available. (so you could go back to the registrar and point it to some other new ones). Or, if the registrar is what has stopped operating. By all means PM me your domain name if you wish me to check which of the above is applicable. If you don't want to reveal the name let me know what the TLD is (.com/.net/.uk etc) together with which situation it fits into above and we'll see what the process is.

Can you elaborate a bit on what you currently have hardware / software licensing wise, and also how much data you're using (and over how many spindles)? Also, it would be useful to know what the suppliers have recommended you spend super duper money on for an additional 150 users, I've in the past ran similar numbers (1200+150 staff) on a pair of servers with 3 disks in a raid5 array (oh the good old days...) and it didn't skip a beat but that was before multimedia and other things came along. I, like John would be looking at a virtual environment, probably Hyper-V if you have licensing for it. (or can get it cheaply, otherwise VMware's free esxi version would be good) £30k is a good chunk of cash, spent wisely in conjunction with an understanding of the current deployed hardware (for understanding a sizing on the 'requirement' of the new virtualisation equipment) and any existing 'gripes' from the customers ie, slow speeds, not enough disk space etc could yield quite an improvement for you. (Declaration of circumstance, I work for a company who sells stuff, yadda, yadda, etc. Not the purpose of the post.)

Morning, It "might" be possible to repair these but it depends what errors MySQL is throwing up on start up first. Is the version of MySQL identical to the previous version? What OS is the server running, is this is the same OS as before? When it does start can you run "show databases;" from the MySQL CLI and does it show up the moodle database?

Ah nice one Glad you squared that away. I'd recommend CSNewMedia in a heartbeat but I'm not sure whether they offer purely Domain Hosting only packages. I have all of my domains over at namecheap and the ones I host the DNS for on there seem fine with no problems.

Hi Matt, First thing I'd do is check WHOIS is reporting correctly that 123reg is handling your domain just to cover that off. Then I'd be checking what is wrong about them, are they old, completely wrong, or whatnot? 123reg recently for a friend took a number of hours (as per normal DNS propagation) before much was looking good. Drop me a PM with the domain if you want me to check it out from a bunch of different ISPs to see if it's that that's up.
