+1 Well said!

I've been asked by my Head to start looking for a full-time temporary technician to assist me (NM) in the usual summer tasks - desktop refresh, possible upgrades to Win7/Office2010 etc. From start of July to end of September in sunny Bournemouth. No formal decision on salary yet but I would expect it to be equivalent to around the £15-£17k pa mark depending on qualifications and experience. Knowledge and experience of school ICT systems obviously preferred. PM me for further details if interested.

Alt-tab out of the xibo client or bring start menu up, start-programs-xibo-xibo options (alt-f4 will close the xibo client window if needed).

Teaching programming in schools
Netman replied to polarlemniscate's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Another way to do it would be to give free access to the machines and just re-image them every night or if there is a gap between lessons. A little FOG server on the same network segment could do the job quickly and could be scheduled so would be relatively hands-off. Or, look at products like Deep Freeze - a simple reboot and any changes to the PC are wiped out...- 24 replies

Yer, we skipped it because of the demands it would place on our ageing staff

Yep, it's Windows Recovery Environment, I tried to image Windows 7 as single partition once or twice and it doesn't like not having the WinRE partition with it!

What product are you using to clone? We've used FOG here to clone W7 with only occasional problems... you need to remember to do a multiple partition clone as W7 creates two partitions on the disk rather than Xp's one...

Looking for an alternative MIS to Integris and Pearsons for large Primary
Netman replied to MDM's topic in MIS Systems
If you're looking for a high quality completely web based MIS which has modules like pupil and parent portals and a VLE on the way, take a look at iSAMS. We switched to it in the summer and it is a very good product... iSAMS|Home- 9 replies

There isn't any confusion - but surely inane chat is better off on facebook or any other site intended for that... whereas this forum is intended for IT professionals working in education and should in my opinion be mostly technical, not a cross between the school playground and BETT! Like others, I am getting very bored of all this now...

I think that can be explained by the fact that many of us took a good hard look at Vista and decided to stick with XP - hence leading to an eventual upgrade of systems from XP to 7.

Sounds like a good idea - we really get through the rather expensive cans of compressed air... any further details on yours please? TIA...

looking for a slr camera £250 - £400 pounds suggestions?
Netman replied to ccsjay's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I'm currently using a D5000 for school photographs - excellent camera with surprisingly good kit lens IMO. I'd highly recommend it... photo was taken at 18mm with the stock lens and D5000 straight out of the box to give you an idea... http://www.camerabox.co.uk/product1.asp?ProductName=Nikon-D5000-Digital-SLR-18-55mm-VR-Kit&ProductID=8468 You could add the 55-200mm VR later too maybe http://www.camerabox.co.uk/product1.asp?ProductID=2643]Nikon 55-200mm F4-5.6G VR AF-S DX IF-ED -
Congratulations Shaun - 'tis good news...

“I…I was trying to show my outrage at a man with a heavy leather jacket, and he…he didn’t even care. I called him a murderer, and all he said was, ‘You can’t prove that.’ Next thing I know he forced me to ride on the back of his motorcycle all day, and would not let me off, because his girl friend was out of town and I was almost a woman.” I lol'd.... a lot

File size! ppt = 2.8mb, exported to flash = 835kb. Runs smoothly with no particular loss of quality... Just add the flash clock to your region (duration=60 for ours), then add an image file of your logo (again 60 secs). Xibo will show one then the other and keep on looping through them...
-
Here's a screeny of ours - the main area switches between flash movies (created by using images in powerpoint and exported to flash using the free iSpring plug-in) and an RSS feed of Bulletins (School news/notices/calendar/menu etc.) The flash clock rotates with our school logo, and the bottom right section uses RSS feeds for news and weather from the BBC. The powerpoint as flash works well - I use 7 images over 45 seconds total... would like to get rid of the iSpring bar at the bottom, but haven't looked into that yet - probably need to pay for the full version... HTH...
