    iSAMS or 3SYS

We left PASS for iSAMS on the curriculum side in 2009 (accounts are still on PASS) - very few issues in that time and we don't regret the move at all. iSAMS intranet was poo though, so we've since moved on to Firefly for that and VLE which integrates nicely with iSAMS. The biggest downside I could say is that iSAMS still needs IE to run and isn't going to support all browsers when it does open up apparently... still, better than PASS for us...
  2. This is useful if you haven't seen it Schools and Copyright
  3. Not that I'm aware of - we use them here for our second dsl connection and it's fine - better than our other BT dsl usually. I have heard that they are re-branding as o2 wholesale or something along those lines... Edit for linky - http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2012/03/be-wholesale-rebranded-as-o2-wholesale/
  4. Yep, overkill indeed... volume shadow copies and a decent backup routine would be adequate IMO...
  5. This works very well, there is also a print migrator too if you need it... Download: File Server Migration Toolkit - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
  6. License at least one desktop platform product. You must license at least one desktop platform product for the organization-wide FTE employee count defined in your enrollment or agreement. Desktop platform products include only the following: Windows® 7 Enterprise upgrade Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and Office for Mac 2011 Microsoft Core CAL Suite* Microsoft Enterprise CAL Suite* Microsoft Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite Education Desktop with Enterprise CAL Suite *Individual CAL Suite components must be ordered organization-wide, but are not desktop platform products and do not qualify to meet this minimum requirement. 7. Have you seen this yet? Planning a MultiPoint Server Deployment Should answer most of your q's...
  8. Hi all, Thanks to some thieving scumbag low-life stealing my trusty steed from our supposedly secure garage (and the fact that my insurance company are rip-off merchants who'll do anything to squirm out of paying out) I'm in need of a road or racing bike - will be saving up for a Specialized Allez or similar, but in the meantime, if anyone has a halfway decent retro racing bike (Raleigh/Peugeot etc.) for sale, please let me know! Can go up to £40 or so, maybe a bit more for a nice example - ideally local, but if you can post for a reasonable amount - that might work too... Thanks fellow velos...

  10. With RDP you can pass through sound, usb and printing - all in options on the rdp client. The technology that improves the graphics experience for the end user is called RemoteFX - more here: Microsoft's RemoteFX is fab - but will it play Crysis? ? The Register It does look very good compared to my previous Terminal Services sessions experience. For example, windowed streaming video on half a dozen clients is fine - even full screen on a couple maybe, but it buckled for us when running multiple full screen video clients. Early days of our testing though... ymmv. As for licensing, Thin PC is a software assurance benefit I think, so depends on what MS licensing agreements you have in place now. You would need to buy the Multipoint server licence(s) and CALs as necessary. My brief investigation so far has led me to believe that these may be around £50 and £13 each respectively on EES - but I've not checked that...
  11. Try running dcdiag Domain Controller Diagnostics Tool (dcdiag.exe)... anything showing in event logs?
  12. We've just added a virtual Windows Multipoint Server to our VMWare setup for testing and the performance using older clients to access is impressive - if you're on EES licensing it shouldn't work out too expensive either I think... you can use Windows 7 Thin PC on the clients and run an RDP session to the Multipoint server. Our older clients are faster and more responsive doing this than having a full local install of Windows 7 Pro.
  13. Same as during the day here. Never been asked to unblock anything, but would probably take the same stance you outlined if we were asked...
  14. That is so totally awesome!
  15. "oh sh*t, we really dropped one by letting schools enrol on the cheaper EES agreement and now our revenue stream is on the fudging floor - quick, think of a complicated excuse to raise the price and get more revenue coming in..."
  16. Congratulations Shaun - surely you have no choice but to saddle him with the name Valentine?... or maybe not...
  17. You might like to look at a second hand Toyota Aygo - 55mpg £15 pa Road tax, not much of a boot, but rear seats drop down - I get mine and my Father-in-law's clubs in the back easily. Cheap to insure too...
  18. That's great - thanks... very similar here - have recently done years 3 to 6 and am thinking we might have to cover years 1 and 2 as well. I always start with the 'who has a computer at home/who has their own computer/who's allowed to use it in their bedroom' questions and the amount of hands up to the last two, even in the lower year groups is fascinating (about 50% have their own device and 30-40% are allowed to use it in their rooms alone).
  19. Just to clarify, Hills have 37 of these in stock, minimum order is 1 set at £3.95. Price drops to £3.30 if you order 40+. Can happily recommend Hills as have used them for over 10 years - they should be able to set you up an education account pretty quick and easy...
  20. Having been there, and seen how 'British' the Falklanders are and how much they appreciate our intervention and continued presence on the Islands - I have to defend their right to freedom of choice to the hilt. These are people (and good ones) we're talking about here, whatever the political history of the area.
  21. Just got some of these Headphones with microphone - CD-719MV ROBUST HEADPHONE MIC Hills Components UK Seem pretty good although only time will tell - can get them as low as £3.30 in bulk.
  22. But, but... it's not a mini - or even a car per se... it's a 'lifestyle choice'
  23. I recently attended one of these locally and can recommend it to all who have any responsibility/input into e-safety. Well organised and good speakers with plenty of interesting information and updates.
  24. Done that -sounds like a pathetic excuse for saving money to me...
  25. You could try using port 3268 (works for me) - Google says: What port numbers should be used in Google Apps Directory Sync when connecting to Global Catalog server? By default, Google Apps Directory Sync connects to an LDAP server with the standard LDAP port 389 to query users from a single domain/LDAP server. If you need to query users over multiple domains/LDAP servers that have trust relationship, configure Google Apps Directory Sync to connect to a Global Catalog server with the standard Global Catalog server port 3268.
