We used the original R3600 and then the R3610 atom based Revo which were both fine playing Xibo. We've now switched to Risevision and they play that even better. There's not much load once the initial library download from the server is done unless you go crazy with content. We used to have a few webpages, some images and a video slideshow of <4 mins running next to RSS feeds ok.

Haven't yet, but the thought intrigues me... we are a Google Apps house too and I've been thinking about home drives for pupils moving to Google Drive at some point...

We've been using Firefly as our Intranet for 18 months now and are only just starting to push the VLE side to teachers. It's a fairly simple system to use and easy to administer - we've not had any major issues with the system and any minor support requests have been dealt with well - there was only one occasion where I had to chase them up on something after a slow response. The directors aren't above getting in touch if they need to. Nice system of being able to view the site as any user - great for testing when making changes. Fairly new company, but seem to have a decent product which integrates really well with our MIS (iSAMS). Cross-browser compatibility is good (a bugbear of mine - are you listening iSAMS?!). I've just rebranded ours and the CSS files in the templates system are fairly easy to find your way around and tweak accordingly. The dashboard page is very good and presents news feeds, tasks, messages, calendar, timetable and sets information all on one personalised page. We've just set this as the homepage for logged in users. We did look at Frog too, but I remember it as being rather costly.

i3 and get the other kit you need too - it's not much of a compromise and barely noticeable to end users at all...

Seems we are just too damned suspicious... this is the official reply to my query to the CLA... "Many thanks for your message I can confirm that your school which is licensed by the CLA to use copyright material has been selected to take part in a data collection exercise for CLA and is one of nearly 20 other schools taking part in the summer term. We regularly conduct data collection exercises in over 700 schools per year as it is part of your schools licence agreement with us that from time to time we can carry out a data gathering exercise to determine what is being copied. This is not to police the licence but simply because we need your help to find out which authors’, publishers’ or artists’ work is being used so we can redistribute licence fees to those whose work is being copied from the Licence fee revenue. John F is one of our field officers and he visits schools to collect copyright data. He will arrange to meet you so that he can go through the exercise process with you and hopefully reassure you that the data collection exercise sounds worse that it is but is actually quite simple and easy to do. Many thanks for your help"

AB tutor control - anyway to override?
Netman replied to SamanthaJane's topic in Network and Classroom Management
From your management station, right click my computer choose manage, then right click computer management (local) top left and select connect to another computer - type in the computer name and then you have remote access to stop the service... -

For those wanting free and easy, I've been trying out Enterprise Digital Signage Software that recently and it seems pretty good... We use Xibo at the mo' but might try using it instead for a while.

How to send to a secure email address
Netman replied to Meldrew's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It's this Government Secure Intranet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I think - unless you're part of it, you won't be able to communicate via that channel - sounds like they need to state that in links and give a second email address for outside use! -
